    Thanks for watching. My Ornithopter project have been on hold for several years now due to my constant move to a new home ( 3 times in the last 4 years ) ,had to put my project in storage boxes.. I recently got back into it but cant do anything during winter season ( too cold in my new tiny garage ) , and yes I will have a less noisy version soon...
    This is only a prototype version with a custom built aluminum open gearbox, it's the aluminum gears in the gearbox that is making that noise . My new 3D printed version has an enclosed gearbox with nylon gears .

    If you can silence the noisy mechanics and put a camera on it, you will have created the ultimate stealth drone.

    I have to say its one of the better ones I have seen. If you look at the slow mo of a bird flying you will notice that they actually throw their wings forward on the up stroke and pull air backwards on the down stroke, all most like paddling a boat. There are certain limitations of what we can do in this space and I am yet to see a design that is able to do more than the up and down. I would love to work on this project with you when you get back into it and it warms up.

    Excellent! I didn't think ot eas possible to recreate the movement of a birds wing though. As I understand it, they don't simply flap up and down, but go up, grab the air and somehow push it down and backwards. If so, you must have a heck of a lot of linkage inside the wings.
    Beautiful bird. Realistic too, just need some oil to get rid of the squeek. 😊

      @@@MARCIALTECH
      Maybe so, but what an incredibly interesting proyotype! A person could live to be a 100 y/o and never know these things existed. I've been building and flying r/c planes for 40 years now and about the only thing that's changed is the advantage of smaller electronics. The principle of how lift is created over a fixed wing is very simple and easy to achieve, but I'm sure you know that. But that, that thing..! LOL! Wow. The mechanics involved in recreating the movement of a bird's wing just boggles my mind! No wonder it squeeks, I imagine there's a lot of linkage inside it to move those big wings. What surprised me the most was the length of the flight. Given the amount of air resistance a wing must encounter when it flaps, both in the upward and the downward stroke, I would've thought your battery would be depleted a lot sooner. But what do I know, I think I'm just old fashioned. My kids think I'm just old. I'm still playing with toys that were designed in the late 1930's! 😉 (the J-3 Cub happens to be my favorite)
      Great video! Very impressive, too. You did an excellent job flying it, especially considering how much movement is going on up there! My eyes and brain instictively thought a wing had come off an airplane every time it flapped! 😲

    • @xMRPx
      @xMRPx 5 років тому +1

      @@@MARCIALTECH
      Wait a minute, you mean an aluminum gear box is responsible for the wings movement? Then this ornithopter is custom built and designed from scratch, isn't it? And I'll bet you're the person that did it. Huh, maybe my kids are right. I'd never heard of 3D printers until just a few months ago. And you mean you can "print" plastic gears that'll be sturdy enough to withstand the forces required to move such a large wing?
      You must have hold a degree in Aeronautical Engineering or similar. At first I was under the impression that this was the latest toy you could buy right off the shelf. I apologize for having such a thought.
      I'm curious then. A large ornithopter like this one requires a relatively slow flap to keep it aloft due to its' large wing area and relatively low weight. Buildng an even larger ornithopter is undoubtedly very attainable, but what about a smaller one? Could a hummingbird's movement be replicated? The speed at which the wings would have to move would consume lots of power. A larger battery would consequently then cause weight to be another deciding factor. I would think that it would be impossible to recreate a hummingbird that could actually hover. And a scale sized butterfly would be out of the question I'm sure. Nano technology isn't that advanced yet, is it? Up until a few hours ago, I didn't think even a large bird could be mimicked. I need to read up on current events a little more often...

    • @xMRPx
      @xMRPx 5 років тому +1

      @@@MARCIALTECH
      Watching the video again, I'm still amazed. Once it's all ironed out, painted and finished, you should add a recorder that's controlled remotely and plays a screech whenever you choose! That would freak out other birds and people as well. If you go one step further I'm sure you could find a white gooey substance and fabricate some bomb bay doors near the tail and... well, you get the rest.
      I think I want one...
      But I'm sure I couldn't afford one.

    • @MARCIALTECH
      @MARCIALTECH  5 років тому +1

      @@xMRPx The gearbox put very little amount of stress on the motor and makes the motor more efficient than propeller driven RC plane of similar wingspan. I used a small 1200 mah 4 cell battery on this prototype.

    Really impressive. If that "plane" was not that noisy, it could be used to take aerial footage where drones are not allowed, hence a National Park...

      This is only a prototype version with a custom built aluminum open gearbox, it's the aluminum gears in the gearbox that is making that noise . My new 3D printed version has an enclosed gearbox with nylon gears .

    Bonsoir,
    C'est vraiment super. Et digne de Léonard de Vinci. Avec une caméra embarquée ce doit être intéressant pour l'approche des oiseaux ou autres animaux. 👏😉 S.R
