    I mean the idea that Russia could build a pretty incredible fighter isn't unheard of. They have been near the top and rivaling the US for many decades now. I see 2 major issues though which make this kind of a "who cares". First off, they often overstate their capabilities. It doesn't mean they are super incapable but if we look at examples like the MiG 25 it was super fast but not nearly as fast as they claimed. I wouldn't be surprised if they produced a great fighter, but the idea it's going to go mach 4+ seems like a very VERY long shot. The other thing is lets say they do build this aircraft AND it's capable of everything they claim it is, will it even matter? Will they be able to produce enough of them in a relevant time period or is this going to be like the SU-57 where many years later they still have just a handful. It doesn't matter how great your aircraft is if its outnumbered 47 to 1.

I have more faith in China doing this. Look how Big the cockpit is on that plane its probably closer to 5th gen then 6th.

    I wouldn't bet on there being footage of a 6th gen flying in testing. The US took flight with testing in 2019 and they manage to keep it under wraps so far. Just a comment they had been flying "for a year" meaning it took flight in 2018, maybe. From what we know, It seems contracts have already been signed. The US tend to play a game of notifying of production 2 to 3 years after productions begins. If we look at the F-22 and F-35, They were already in service when the US announced production, 5 year and 2 years later, respectively. Like with the SR-72, the US has gone back dark of their projects again. So, we have no idea what they really have.
    Russia may have something but it likely won't meet all the benchmarks of what is considered a 6th gen fighter. They haven't really achieved a 5th gen fighter yet.

    The covered up single engine plane is probably a Su-75 Checkmate prototype. Russia has been known to build fast planes, but the MiG-25 Foxbat and MiG-31 Foxhound (just a modified/modernized MiG-25) have very little in the way of capabilities other than just high altitude, high top speed. Military Technology is not a channel known for posting videos with any strong basis in fact. Russia probably has claimed they intend to fly a 6th gen fighter by 2025, but that doesn't mean they will. They MIGHT develop an engine than can push an airframe to Mach 4, some sort of turbo-jet ram-jet hybrid. But fast is not that important in terms of 6th generation fighter capabilities. 6th generation will be defined more by a higher degree of stealth on par with a B2 or B21, better power production from the engines to power more complex computing systems, more powerful radar and infrared tracking systems, more powerful decoy and jamming/hacking systems, possibly some sort of directed energy weapon system, and overall more powerful data-linking and communication systems enabling the use of AI enabled drones for weapons deployment. But, more importantly than just a more stealthy fighter is the system as a whole. The fighter, the drones, new weapons/missiles, and modular systems that can be updated/upgraded easily. Not to mention the presence of the NGAD fighter/system in a battle space will, in theory, increase the capabilities of older fighters just by being present. For example, you have F-15s on station and they get flanked... Imagine that eventhough the F-15 pilot can't get a lock on the target because, perhaps, the target is behind it, the integration of the NGAD system will allow that F-15 to fire a missile that will loop back and hit the flanker using the radar or infrared tracking of another friendly asset in the area

    • @thesarcasticliberal
      @thesarcasticliberal 18 днів тому +2

      It's not unheard of. The most extreme example of this being the IDF Lavi, which was a "1st generation" jet with the capabilities of a 4th generation jet. Of course, China did CCP things and took the design, cheaped out on the engine quality, and had to dramatically increase the weight with extra supports. That's how the J-10 was born and it's still their primary 4th gen jet to this day.
      That said, as you point out, Russia hasn't even developed a true 5th generation jet--their Su-57 is an improved 4th generation jet (4.5) and there is precisely zero chance that they will develop a 6th gen in the near future. China might, but only a couple years after we do it, and they have a chance to "borrow" some of the plans.

They changed their tactics and took out most of the more capable AA over time with drones & ballistic missiles, in the last 5 months they had more and more uncontested airspace, atleast regarding dropping ordnance, close air support still is and probably will be an issue until the end due to the huge amount and variety of MANPADs in circulation.

That conflict lasted what? Four months? If Russia can't even manage to effectively suppress Ukrainian air power and AA in a massive airpower mismatch, then they don't have air superiority. If they had air superiority they wouldn't be suffering the casualties or equipment losses they have been taking. That's why it matters. Lobbing ballistic and cruise missiles into city apartments and power stations isn't an effective strategic use of resources.

      @@colbunkmust the US hit power stations & command centers as priority targets in Iraq i have seen it live on television back then, how are power stations not a strategic target if the military is using it too? The US set the precedence back then and argued the legality against all opposition🤣
      Iraq was a lightning in a bottle, they had a lot on paper but it was in an abysmal state, their tanks still had factory setting on the T-72As when captured because they didnt knew how to use it, they had no night capability and after a few days they had no commander, HQs or radar coverage anymore, at that point even if they wanted to, they could not have put up an effective fight without knowing what aircraft to target and WW2 era tricks like parking tanks half burried as pillboxes in the open wasnt really up to date either. Nevermind that the coalition went in with almost 600k soldiers from the start, the russians only now in the last few months have started reaching that amount, the first year and a half they barely had 120k against almost 800k ukrainians armed & trained on modern equipment, not kitbashed or locally produced T72s like Iraq...
      By ur logic the US should have never lost a plane in Vietnam, wich it did plenty. Dunno if the Patriot is long or medium range AA, but together with the S300 ukraine still has has a pretty adequate mix of systems against almost anything the russians would use for CAS or air superiority, its not like they would not slap an A10 the same way out of the sky as they would an SU-25, or that the Patriot could not engage an F-35 the same way even with its stealth tec, so why would the russians risk it if they have drones & missiles? Worked pretty well against the Iris-T and Patriot batteries.
      PS: bringing up the Iraq war as an example for "winning" aint that good when it is one of the biggest war crimes in recent history, starting a war with false evidence was questionable even back then and the coalition still proceeded without a UN mandate(funny enough thus violateing the sovereignity of that country, you know the same thing they point the finger at russia now...), wich ended in the direct & indirect death of almost a million iraqis and destabilized the region, clearing the road for ISIS & co. to emerge...

    Since the thrust is the same as the SU-57 at 37500 that means that the 19% improvement comes by way of weight reduction. Thrust to weight ratio for the SU-57 is 37500/40790= .9193. Improving this ratio by 19% is .9193 x .19 = 1.094. Since the thrust is the same the improvements must come in weight reduction, so 37500/1.094 = 34277. The change in weight is 40700 - 34277 = 6423. That is a lot of weight reduction! Aerodynamics says that this 19% "improvement" has to be proportional to the change in speed. Mach 2 x .19 = 2. 38, this is far from mach 4!

    More recent American stealth aircraft designs eliminate the vertical stabilizers to further reduce the radar cross section. Look at the B-2, B-21, and the concept art for the NGAD (6th gen) fighter.
    To reach greater speeds than Mach 4, they need two key breakthroughs: improved combined cycle engines and an airframe capable of managing the high heat of > Mach 3 flight. The US has been working on these to develop successors to the SR-71. If the US has not publicly shown such an aircraft, how likely is it that the Russians have caught up with and surpassed American designers?
    The Russians have to contend with the same physics that the Americans have to and they have to do so with less sophisticated materials and manufacturing technology at their disposal.

    Reiterative, many aspects of stealth and other means are used to compensate for deficiencies in shape topology, of course with certain compromises. 1, 50 or a millions words can't scratch the surface and this is meant as only a basic visualization regarding aircraft shape and stealth.

    This looks like concept for the Checkmate. It is likely Russia won't even be able to field an operational 5th gen fleet. Maybe 7 or 8 true 5th gen Felons, with the rest being hangar queens or used just for parts. They'll (along with China) will likely skip 5th gen and focus on 6th gen, with actual operational fleet aircraft being somewhere between a 5.25 to 5.50 gen aircraft with enough "operational" aircraft to field a fleet. The smartest thing Russia (and China) have done is partnering together to exchange ideas and combine their technology advancements, and they will still be behind the US in advancement.

    5:03 I saw this actual video days ago and thought this was the actual aircraft, but as you yourself noticed Putin is AI superimposed. And now looking at that same picture, that is a F-22, not a Russian airplane. Take a look at the white truck on the far left side, that's a Ram truck (U.S.). That tug is American and that guy in the back dragging the chocks (yellow blocks) looks U.S. Air Force.
    Edit:
    10:23 That aircraft has been mentioned by Russia in the past couple of years or so and it's a single engine version of the F-35 and it actually would look something like 9:30.

    I'm with you and highly doubt their claims, as the Ukraine War has proven that all Russian Tech is way over blown. I would suspect that the US and/or Japan is the first nation to be successful at cracking the 6th Gen nut. I say Japan, because they admitted they stopped trying for their own 5th, bought the F-35 and take it's lessons and are applying it to building their 6th Gen fighter...which was 6 to 8 years ago, with today's computing ability that has allowed for much quicker design proofing and suspect someone is very close to this goal. I love Military Tech until it's used for it's intended purpose.

    Mach 4 is not out of the question. The new engines being produced and the not round , vectored shapes will have better air flow and reduced air temperature differentials. You need to got higher when you go faster. The faster you go the more air resistance and friction heating - go higher the air is thinner and colder. The catch is most engines flame out at high altitudes - they are just not designed for this. The other thing is, the faster you go different radars can now pick up up based on Doppler on shock wave created by the air craft flying. Basically weather radar / wind shear alone with picking up the condensation on the shock wave.
    What is not talked about are the issues the west has with F22 and F35 aircraft. These planes are a logistical and financial nightmare. 1 hour air time is 8 hours maintenance and 10K per hour. Then their whole stealth thing has been shown to be rubbish - sensor fusion techniques of using many different sensor systems with integrated signal processing means a radar system (single) that can sense stealth is in the region but not good enough to get lock for missiles, when you have 3 or more of the same radar and some signal processing you now have the resolution for radar lock - (same technique radio astronomy uses with multiple dishes).
    That is why the Russian air defense systems are getting better all the time. Throw in the longer range they have with their missiles and that the missiles can be guided from multiple sources. Attackers have real issues getting dominance or into an effective range.
    And then there are the optical radar systems Russia is working on and will be part of their air craft systems.

  • @steeljawX
    @steeljawX 16 днів тому

    I mean I'll give Russia credit where credit is due. They can do missiles, submarines (kind of), and tanks in mass. They've never had a strong air or sea game. I'm pulling from history here on that. The fact that they had a bumbling fleet get wiped out after doing just about everything wrong (the Baltic Fleet of 1912,) have yet to actually complete a full functioning Aircraft Carrier (which they really don't have any use for other than to be part of the Carrier Club,) they really didn't have any amount of air superiority during WWII (that was being done by the UK and US,) and so far the proxy wars have not seen Soviet/Russian made fighters/interceptors really have much of a superior advantage over any other machine out there. They just happen to be the cheap one other nations can afford.
    On the other hand, I keep feeling the meme coming on.
    Kid: "Can we get F-35?"
    Mom: "We have F-35 at home!"
    F-35 at home:
    Also Russian media or at least their military press doesn't seem to be connected with reality. Traveling at mach 4 means you're creating a sonic boom, meaning everyone can pick you up on some form or another. Traveling at mach 4 also does a number on the outside of the aircraft as little bits of debris basically sand it off at that speed. Lastly, no one is trying to go above mach 1-1.5 because you're never actually fighting at that speed. Yeah, you can intercept really fast at mach 4, but how effective is it when you've got to slow down and take 8 miles to turn around? I'm just saying that their boasting of speed isn't impressive because they're trying to brag about their pissing prowess at the start of a 100m dash. No one's impressed by it and are wondering what that has to do with the price of fish.
    Last thing is I really REALLY doubt they have something capable of Mach 4 that's also effective because Russia isn't exactly famous for the operational distance of their aircraft. They also haven't expressed much of a desire to go beyond the old Soviet borders, meaning they're building insanely fast "rockets" instead of long flying "fighters".

    • @steeljawX
      @steeljawX 16 днів тому

      Also this sounds like a very VERY high tech machine that would need a lot of stuff currently on sanctions to Russia. So how they're saying all this stuff is beyond me. Unless they're manufacturing microchips and semi conductors now, I feel like this is something requiring something Russia is currently poor in.
      I'll also comment that I'm sure it'll only be after Russia and the US come out with Gen 6 fighters that China will suddenly have a 6th gen fighter that coincidentally looks a lot like the stolen information they took from US and Russian projects but apparently are "completely original." Same looks, about 1/5th the performance and 30x's the boasting about capabilities not there. If they didn't keep doing it, I wouldn't be saying this, but China and Russia keep trying to brag about something that hasn't actually happened (our missiles can sink a US Carrier! A single one of our 5 gen fighters can take out every F-22 and F-35 out there!!) and it's gone from slightly shocking to boring to annoying to something I will mock every time it's done again. Stop trying to s*it fire and piss mercury and we'll stop having this interaction of me making fun of your alleged technology.

  • @thesarcasticliberal
    @thesarcasticliberal 18 днів тому

    Let's fast forward this--Russia will declare that they have the best jet in the world and only 6th gen, the US military will freak out and develop something that beats what the Russian claim their jet can do on paper, and then it will come out that the Russian system didn't actually exist and they have fallen even farther behind than before their brag.
    The MiG-31 was a somewhat okay plane for when it was developed, but it's hopelessly outmatched by pretty much everything the US runs. It's very fast, but western air-air missiles are faster and can be fired from NLOS to kill the MiG before it even knows that it's under attack (their radar is trash). Ironically, the best Russian jets are likely Indian variants of the Su-30, as India saw the lack of quality and so they got France to fix the optics and radar, and the Israelis to fix the electronics and targeting systems, as well as install EW systems. They basically patched up the main issues with the base Su-30, making it a very solid plane.
