Great reaction, Jennypenny. Yes, for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" with George Lazenby, but Sean Connery comes back after the next film for "Diamonds Are Forever" so, you'll see him again.
I'm pretty sure I've never seen another UA-cam video in which someone said the word "lair" so many times, and the best part is that Jen doesn't say it mockingly. She genuinely enjoys the tropes and uses the lingo unironically. Never lose that sincerity, Jen. It's one of things I love best about you.
I love your reactions to the Bonds. You don’t judge them for their time periods. You enjoy them for the fun movies they are. Out of all your reactions your enthusiasm for these is through the roof. Absolutely kelp going. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a classic Bond. I think you’ll love it.
I was thinking the same thing. She takes them as they are in the time they were from. No need to point out that some of the sensibilities in them aren’t in line with more modern sensibilities. Love her reactions and how into the movies she is getting.
General consensus seem to be he took the character too seriously and tried to play it straight. Bond is a boys-own-adventure, in no way based on reality.
@@Cheepchipsable That's only the consensus with some of the people who grew up on Roger Moore's campy antics. The early Bonds always had tongue firmly in cheek, but that's not at all the same thing as camp. You have to play fantasy straight to make it work. In fact, OHMSS may be the Bond flick that's most faithful to the source material, the only real rival being Craig's "Casino Royale". It's no surprise then, that those two are right at the top of most "Best Bonds" lists.
I think OHMSS is a good Bond movie but not great and unfortunately that’s mostly due to Lazenby; just didn’t buy him as Bond at all. I may have like the movie more had Sean Connery still been Bond.
@@ThunderForce2000 I find it hard to imagine Sean "Falling" for Diana Rigg. And showing the kind of emotions, and fear. George and Diana were almost the same age. On the plus side it would have given Sean a chance to show some real acting skills.
Donald Pleasence who played Blofeld was a great actor and one of the greatest bond villains ever killing helga brandt aka no.11 in that piranha scene was ruthless and shocked me when i first saw this film many years ago.
Mr. Henderson (Charles Gray) is the narrator (The Criminologist - An Expert) in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and also plays Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever. The "Chinese girl" at the beginning of the film was played by Tsai Chin who was the mother Lindo in the Joy Luck Club among many other roles.
I love the fight between Connery and Peter Maivia (a couch to the chest?). Who would have thought back in 1967 that the henchman's grandson would grow up to become The Rock? So cool and I just watched "Jumanji" again last weekend. Another great post, Jen. Cheers.
HOLD UP; "High Chief" Peter Maivia was in this one..? Samoan Wrestler and Grandfather of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? HOW DID I NEVER EVER KNOW THIS?!?!?!?
OMG! I missed YOLT at the theater, and only saw it later. I did not recognize Peter Maivia - He was my favorite wrestler back in the "old days" of wrestling! Fantastic info, thanks!!
This is widely considered the movie that introduced ninjas to western audiences. I don’t think Jen recognized Blofeld as the same actor as the doctor from Halloween. Next movie is one of the true greats of the franchise. Can’t wait!
I agree about the next one. It's often overlooked because of Connery's absence as James Bond. However, as much as I love the Sean Connery Bond films, the next one really stands out for me in so many ways.

This theme song, as performed here by Nancy Sinatra, was the anthem of the men of the Silent Generation who were approaching middle-age when it came out. You couldn't have a more perfect metaphor for midlife crisis and longing for a new start. (It was used to great effect in a crucial episode of Mad Men.) (When Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published, I was astonished at how well it tracked the lyrics to this song.) Jen, the set design for this (and a lot of the other earlier Bond movies) was made by Ken Adams, also known for "the war room" design in Dr. Strangelove. He is an absolute master of his craft.

The volcano set costed as much as the entire budget for Dr. No. At the time this fact was cited as a prediction the franchise would continue indefinitely, though nobody probably realized actually how long. Several props were tried for the miniatures used for the space scenes. They settled for a salt shaker to represent the shuttle. During filming the Little Nellie scene, cameraman John Jordan lost his foot when he got too close to one of the SPECTRE helicopters. A conference for surgeons happened to be taking place nearby and he had the best care possible for the day. Albert Broccoli and Ken Adams were extremely lucky on this film, and not just it's success. On return from a location scout, they changed their flight. I think you're wrong about the salt shaker. It's Moonraker where they use this ingenious trick (you even said "shuttle" - there was no shuttle until the early 80s [Moonraker, from 1979, actually stole a march on NASA - Drax launched his shuttles before real-life NASA did!]
@@jazzx251 I got around to checking the blu-ray special features. They used the salt shakers in this film because it was easy to add salt and debris inside the shaker to make it look like exhaust. Everyone was going to space after that film was a shocking success. I did make a mistake in calling it "shuttle" though.

"I think Jen is enjoying the movie" And it seems the editor too XD; kudos to Steph G who seems that had quite a ride with all the special effects in the video :P. "Helicopters had that technology back then?" Well, magnets existed; that device would be a magnetic crane: an electromagnet calibrated to lift the weight of a car. Electromagnets exist since 1824 and are (basically) a piece of metal that produces a strong magnetic field once electricity is applied; thus, the concept of a helicopter having a magnetic crane for spionage purpose is not that weird (it would only require an additional source of power to feed the magnet with the strength needed). According to the Internet Movie Plane Data Base (yes, it exists XD), the helicopter of the scene is a Kawasaki Vertol KV-107 II; sadly, the regular version doesn't have a magnetic crane installed in real life. "That's a lair!" Remembering that Jen loves miniature models; the open shots of the volcano lair are precisely that: one of the biggest, most expensive, sets ever built for Bond films; it was Made at Pinewood Studios, by british/german set designer Sir Ken Adam (who also made sets for Doctor Strangelove, among other films). Here is the story of Ken Adam's contribution to the Bond legend, including some pictures of the massive "miniature" set, including a heartwarming picture of Lois Maxell (Miss Monepenny), Akiko Wakabayashi (Aki/the late Mrs. Bond #1), Sean Connery (James Bond), Karin Dor (Helga Brandt/No. 11) and Mie Hama (Mrs. Bond #2) admiring the finished work: flashbak.com/amazing-pictures-ken-adams-live-twice-set-57106/ "I should have known Bond wouldn't go to space!" In time, 00 Jen; Bond will be in space... in time XD. "Should I watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service?" I think you should; without spoilers: it wasn't a commercial success back in the day, for different reasons (keeping a character, but changing the actor was unheard of in movies back in those days; most of the audience didn't get the transition well) but's been revalorized by general viewers and fans of the franchise recently. The film tried to introduce some elements of the novels not explored a lot by the films; sadly (perhaps), the audiences wanted more Connery-like films and, since then, the film has carried some sort of "ugly duckling" image that pushes people away only by the power of that fame. The film hasn't been disowned by the franchise, though; the events in it have been referenced in later Bond films. Let's see what you think ("Jen Murray reactions will return..."). And that would be it, nice reaction and see you in the next one :P.
One of the best of the weekly reviews, always so much fun catching your Bondy reactions! Btw, it is supposed to be shaken not stirred, that was a mistake. This screenplay was by Roald Dahl, the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Mathilda.
It is indeed "shaken, not stirred". The character misrembered what was James Bond favourite way to drink Vodka Martini. It's a mistake deliberatly intended by the writer.
Double Oh Sev-Jen, great reaction. Watching you have fun with these without today's sanctimonious bloviation is refreshing. Thanks for sharing and kudos for keeping your tongue right next to your cheek.
Hey Jen, Electromagnets could do what the magnet on the helicopter rig did. I don't know how much current it would take, but electromagnets can lift a car easily.
Trivia! The silly looking rifles, 'rocket guns' at 17: 45 are a real thing! Gyro-Jets...they were little rockets, fired like bullets from a gun. No recoil to speak of, but the bullet has to travel 10-15 feet before it accelerates to top speed. Not much good for close-in and no way to silence them. Decent accuracy... The ammo is absurdly expensive...no new ammo has been made in close to 20 years.
As a big Bond franchise fan, I’m glad to see you doing this series, and I hope you continue with it. I think you’ll find it interesting how the movies evolve, along with the different actors who play 007. Yes, some of the movies aren’t as good as others (that goes for the various Bond actors, as well) but imho, I don’t think there’s a one that I would classify as unwatchable. And if you want to see Bond actually go into space, just wait till you get to the Roger Moore era. Incidentally, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” follows the plot of the original novel the most closely of all the films… and speaking of the original novels, I encourage you to give them a try, as well. They really give you a true sense of what the Bond character is all about that you can’t completely get from the films… and they’re not long, or difficult reads. Cheers! Looking forward to your next Bond adventure.
While filming the helicopter fight over the volcano, cameraman John Jordan was leaning out of a helicopter to get a shot. Another helicopter got too close and its rotor cut his leg which had to be amputated. Three years later he was filming "Catch 22" and was sucked out of the door of the camera plane and fell to his death. He preferred not to wear a safety harness when getting his aerial shots and his mobility was impaired by his prosthetic leg.
Bond was being polite guest to his host by claiming he got the drink right. Henderson did get it wrong. Bond was just being nice. Btw the large driver that Bond fought (and assumingly killed) at Soto's building was Dwayne Johnson's Grandfather.
This was my first Bond movie! I was 6 years old 36 years ago! The movie with all those gadgets and space craft totally flashed me away and set me up to fell in love with the Bond franchise for the rest of my life! 😍
I felt that reaction to the fake death scene, i havent seen this since i was a teenager, i and forgotton all about it! It's cool to see the early Bond movies getting some love, good reaction!
I think this soundstage is still one of the very largest in the world - it's called "the 007 stage" On your Bond journey, you will be seeing lots of massive villain's lairs - all filmed on this huge soundstage. In this one, they built a functioning monorail! And the white cat got scared when a bullet squib went off - it jumped out of "Blofeld"'s arms and was never seen again. Even though they looked and looked, the set was so massive that they had no chance of finding the cat - they had to get another one.
"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the greatest Bond films. George Lazenby does an excellent job as James Bond. But Sean Connery was the definitive 007. You will love it.
Great reaction Jen, this is such a classic Bond film! Beautiful locations, amazing gadgets (including Little Nellie) and the greatest villain lair of all time! I am really hoping you can do On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Aaah, You Only Live Twice. Probably my favourite Bond movie. I went to a lecture back in the 1980's given by Wing Cmdr Ken Wallis. He talked about Little Nellie and his involvement in the making of the movie and showed a film about her.
I really enjoy seeing your reactions to the Bonds which Ive seen multiple times. Reminds me of my delight and awe when first seeing the scope, action and over the top ness! Yes, as you go through them you start to have favourites and recognise familiar scenarios; getting the gadgets, meeting with M, Moneypenny the scenery, cars, girls and lairs! On her Majestys is the last of the 60s Bonds and a certain style, its a classic and high before going into the 70s.... without giving too much away
Well Done Jen! You have made it to George Lazenby lone Bond movie. It wasn’t successful in the 60’s but fans today usually rank it as one of the best. Remember we have all the time in the world!
JEN ,Here's your ultimate lair! Just fill it with all your Bond gadgets, and you'll be set! All you need now is a really good VILLAIN! Love your Bondy reactions, your excitement really shows. Keep um coming Jen, here for them all!
It's always nice to see young people appreciate my favorite James Bond. I'll be curious to see your reaction to some of the other Bonds that picked up the mantle after Sean Connery.
Watching you watch Bond is so much fun you need to see all the Bond movies. I think I've missed some of the many Bond films, and I like them better with your reaction and commentary. You add real fun to the mix.
I like the Connery-era Bonds best, but there's some substantial plot holes in this one... Probably the biggest one involves initial set-up: Step 1) stage an elaborate fake death for Bond (so everyone will think he's dead).. Step 2) Bond wanders around Tokyo aimlessly, in front of large crowds everywhere. So much for keeping a low profile (!)
Hooray for 00J! 😁 I dig that you judge these older films in the proper context rather than judging their older style and effects to today’s standards. Heck, even as a young person in the 80s some of my friends mocked them (and they were only 10, 15 or 20 years old then…not about 50 years old as they are now!). You’re clearly intelligent enough to get it. Thank you! Also!…the Bond Girl counter is…..SPLENDID! Haha! 🙂
13:30. Introducing 'Little Nellie' aka the Wallis WA-116 Agile. Flown by her 'father' Ken Wallis (1916-2013), former WW2 RAF pilot and autogyro designer.
I did promise you you'd get a Blofeld face reveal and an awesome lair in this one. Knew you'd enjoy it! Also, bit of trivia: the volcano lair set alone cost as much to make as the ENTIRE first film! Really looking forward to what you think of "Majesty's". Without spoiling anything, it's a much more serious take on Bond and has recently been given a "reevaluation" of sorts and most Bondians consider it one of the best in the series.
2.6K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️ Notes: Cute Tuxedo Cat! Thanks for sharing it with us! I'm a Completionist too! 😊 I may be about to sleep now. 😴
Charles Grey who played Henderson later played Spectre head villain Ernst Stravos Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever in 1971. Donald Pleasence Blofeld in this film later played Dr Loomis in Halloween in 1978 and several sequels.
Agree with your editor (Steph?), you seem to really like this movie! Love your excitement level rising with gadgets and lairs and everything Bond! Thank for another great reaction.
The title, in the book, comes from a haiku that Bond comes up with, “You only live twice, once when you’re born, and once when you look death in the face.”
Connery left the series twice after You Only Live Twice and replaced by Lazenby who in return left the series after one film and Connery returned for Diamonds Are Forever which wasn’t my favorite Bond film and have been a big fan of Bond series for over 25 years. Sean Connery was offered $5.5 million in 1972 to return as Bond but refused and Roger Moore took over as Bond officially when was cast to star in his debut film as Bond in Live and Let Die.

According to the Internet Movie Plane Data Base (yes, it exists XD), the helicopter of the scene is a Kawasaki Vertol KV-107 II; sadly, the regular version doesn't have a magnetic crane installed in real life.
"That's a lair!"
Remembering that Jen loves miniature models; the open shots of the volcano lair are precisely that: one of the biggest, most expensive, sets ever built for Bond films; it was Made at Pinewood Studios, by british/german set designer Sir Ken Adam (who also made sets for Doctor Strangelove, among other films). Bond #2) admiring the finished work: flashbak.com/amazing-pictures-ken-adams-live-twice-set-57106/
"I should have known Bond wouldn't go to space!"
In time, 00 Jen; Bond will be in space... in time XD.
"Should I watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service?"
I think you should; without spoilers: it wasn't a commercial success back in the day, for different reasons (keeping a character, but changing the actor was unheard of in movies back in those days; most of the audience didn't get the transition well) but's been revalorized by general viewers and fans of the franchise recently.
Roald Dahl also wrote the screenplay to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which was also based on a story by Ian Fleming and starred several James Bond Actors.
And who is cuter than Jen??
It is indeed "shaken, not stirred". The character misrembered what was James Bond favourite way to drink Vodka Martini. It's a mistake deliberatly intended by the writer.
Bond was just being polite.
Double Oh Sev-Jen, great reaction. Watching you have fun with these without today's sanctimonious bloviation is refreshing.
Thanks for sharing and kudos for keeping your tongue right next to your cheek.
😂👍
Fun reaction as always! I'll be back for DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER!
Hey Jen, Electromagnets could do what the magnet on the helicopter rig did. I don't know how much current it would take, but electromagnets can lift a car easily.
You won’t see Bond in space for about 12 years after this movie but in Moonraker he finally goes.
2:16 "explain"
The tile of the movie is "You Only Live Twice"
Wonderfull - this is my favourite of the Connery era Bond.
Hi Jen hope you are having an great and awesome day. ❤️ your Bond reactions
Keep up the great work. Your genuine excitement for what you do is infectious.
on her majesty's secret service is 1 of the best
This was my first Bond movie! I was 6 years old 36 years ago! The movie with all those gadgets and space craft totally flashed me away and set me up to fell in love with the Bond franchise for the rest of my life! 😍
I felt that reaction to the fake death scene, i havent seen this since i was a teenager, i and forgotton all about it!
It's cool to see the early Bond movies getting some love, good reaction!
Seeing how much Jen loves the lair is so wholesome. :) I hope she's able to have her own secret volcano lair someday.
Omggg imagine!!! 😂👍
I think this soundstage is still one of the very largest in the world - it's called "the 007 stage"
On your Bond journey, you will be seeing lots of massive villain's lairs - all filmed on this huge soundstage.
Yes! All the Bonds!
As to your Perennial question: "Do you want to see my reaction to the next Bond movie?".
The answer is always: "YES!"
Yes, MoneyJenny, we've been waiting for more Bond! Thank you! 👍 😁
I’ve been binge watching all your Bond reactions, to catch up, and it’s been fun to see how genuinely excited you get about these! 👍
Thanks! ☺️👍
A lot of reactors stop after Dr. No. I'm really happy to see you continuing :) love all these films.
Great reaction Jen, this is such a classic Bond film! Beautiful locations, amazing gadgets (including Little Nellie) and the greatest villain lair of all time! I am really hoping you can do On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Thanks Kurt! Looking forward to OHMSS 👍
Donald Pleasance played Klaus Schwab so well in this movie
Another great reaction Jen. Gotta love how excited you get. You really are adorable. You just can't help yourself! Don't ever change.
Aaah, You Only Live Twice. Probably my favourite Bond movie.
I went to a lecture back in the 1980's given by Wing Cmdr Ken Wallis. He talked about Little Nellie and his involvement in the making of the movie and showed a film about her.
My favorite Bond film!
You should never shake a Martini. It dilutes the drink and makes it frothy/cloudy. It should always be stirred, so much better.
Thanks E.D.!
@@jenmurrayxo I knew you'd like this one!
Good Evening Eric, and how are you doing tonight? Was starting to have a miserable night myself, but luckily Jen just came to my rescue! (LOL)
@@tomhoffman4330 What's wrong bud.I hate to hear that. Hope you're doing OK.
@@e.d.2096 I'm fine; I got myself banned from another Twitch group earlier. I'm a little sad, but mostly just mad at myself.
It's so much fun watching Jen watch these! Please continue!
Thanks Jeff! ☺️👍
I like the Connery-era Bonds best, but there's some substantial plot holes in this one...
Probably the biggest one involves initial set-up:
Step 1) stage an elaborate fake death for Bond (so everyone will think he's dead)..
Step 2) Bond wanders around Tokyo aimlessly, in front of large crowds everywhere.
So much for keeping a low profile (!)
Hooray for 00J! 😁
I dig that you judge these older films in the proper context rather than judging their older style and effects to today’s standards.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your BOND reactions...
OHMSS is the most accurate Bond film to the Ian Fleming books 😎👍
I for one think "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was the best bond movie, maybe not the best Bond,
I’ll bet she wasn’t expecting to see Dr. Loomis again.
2.6K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️
Notes: Cute Tuxedo Cat! Thanks for sharing it with us!
I'm a Completionist too! 😊
I may be about to sleep now. 😴
FYI The quote from the novel was..You only live twice, once when you are born and once when you look death in the face. Fun reaction 👍😊
Fantastic reaction, Jen. "18:01" That animation killed me🤣🤣 Hail to the editor👍
Steph G is the best!!
Thanks!! ☺️👍
But you are a secret agent...best Wednesday night ever...Jen and Bond....you are amazing as always....thank you so much....haaaa 00 Jen...you rock...
The title, in the book, comes from a haiku that Bond comes up with, “You only live twice, once when you’re born, and once when you look death in the face.”
My favorite thing about the movie is the Toyota 2000, which they had to cut the roof off of because Sean Connery was too tall to fit in it otherwise.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a must-see, I rate it even higher than Connery's brief return in Diamonds Are Forever.
