The greatest thing about this song is the use of mirrors without the camera being shown and managing the lighting of the shots. That's why it is considered a masterpiece. This was shot in an artificially built "Sheesh Mahal", (Palace of mirrors) which alone costed more than the budget of a whole movie in those days. The director K Asif was warned that shooting with so many mirrors is impossible but through technical brilliance this song was created.
In this song: Best singer (Lata Mangeshkar ji) Best expressions Best actors (Prithviraj kapoor, Madhubala & Dilip sahab) Best shooting set (Mirror palace) Best lyrics by Shakeel badauni Best music by Naushad sahab ❤Song of the century❤
Kamal amrohi(Pakeezha) , k asif(mughel e azam) , mehboob(mother india) and V. Shantaram(geet gaya patthrone etc) are my favourites. In today's cinema only bajirao mastani is good.
Every single scene of this movie was crafted by K Asik director with love and delivered by the amazing cast with love. This movie is the biggest jewel of Indian Cinema.
Congratulations you just watched one of the greatest classic Hindi songs of all time from the biggest classic film of Bollywood ever made in 1960 40 years back a pure cinematic experience of any Hindi film plz watch the full film you will definitely love this
"When you loved someone why do you need to fear. You just loved, did not steal anything" "When you cannot hide anything from God, why do you need to hide from humans" The king is Emperor Akbar, the son is Jehangir, Shah Jahan's (Taj Mahal guy) father. As the name of the movie says they are from the Mughal dynasty, from which the word Moghul came.
Prithviraj Kapoor, playing Emperor Akhbar here (seen as a young emperor in Jodha Akbar played by Hrithik Roshan), the 2nd generation of the Kapoor family in Indian cinema, is the father of Rishi Kapoor (and others) grandfather of Ranbir Kapoor and his cousins Karishma and Kareena Kapoor, amongst others. Akhbar (reigned1556 to 1605) was a beloved Muslim emperor from the Mughal dynasty, descended from Genghis Khan and Timur, who famously valued all religions, (His beloved wife Jodha, being his favorite, was in fact Hindu) and discussed/studied religion with scholars from many religions, including Christianity. Here though he is older and is shocked to learn that his son, the Price most likely to succeed him, has fallen for a mere common dancing girl, Anaarkali (translated: Pomegranate blossom). Anaarkali here is confessing her love for Prince Salim to Akbar and the world, and is saying basically, so you fell in love, what's there to be afraid of? Why hide it from those around you when you can't even hide it from God? She tells Akbar that if what she has done, loved his son, is a sin, then kill her now as her punishment. A grand love story. Jodi, and everyone else, will love this film. Promise. I heard this movie before seeing it because my parents went to see it while my mother was nearing her delivery date. :D
Love Americans try to bumble their way through classical history without any attempt at research or background. Thank you for shedding darkness on everything you touch as usual.
I watched it and found it really enjoyable to see where Sanjay Leela Bhansali got his inspiration from. I didn't know before I saw it but once this song came up I was immediately reminded of Deewani mastani in the movie Bajirao mastani. If you haven't see that movie, react to deewani mastani to see the similarities.
The songs loosely translates to "Why fear if you're in love,...You're in love, it's not a crime,...Why should we hide and sigh"....and in this scene and song she is professing her love for the prince in front of the court and the king was furious at that
This is one of the most iconic songs from one of the most iconic Indian films till date. Its a story of the great 16th century Emporer Akbar the Great and his son who fell in love with a court dancer which the emperor didn't approve of as you'd guess from his looks. Here the girl is singing that "You shouldn't fear anyone when in love", she's challenging the Emperor here. The techniques used in this film were way ahead of its time for Indian standards.
It's from a famous literature novel of a court dancer who is in love with the prince but tradition doesn't allow them to marry. In this song she professes her love for him. Incidentally, they were also lovers in real life, but at the time this movie was made, they were already breaking up, so this was their last movie together. She died of a hole in her heart as well as a broken heart at the age of 36
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever I love this song!!!!! It's my favorite!!!!!!!! It is a classic. Beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautiful sound
How do u know? Just read from the comments she was in love with this man in real life but at the time of this movie they broke up and she died later at 36 with a hole in her heart... can u imagine the strength it took her
You guys don’t want to know what the King did to her... it’s unthinkable...and shocking... don’t want to give it up in case you are going to watch the climax. 🇮🇳🙏🏽🇱🇷
This is a historic movie based on the great love story of salim and Anarkali. This movie is best from other movies in terms of everythings from acting to dialogues, dance to lyrics everything is unmatchable
This Movie is made in 1960 and first time introduced Color photography in this movie.. A historical movie Great Emperor Akbar, The Great, whose son fell in love with a Dancer💃 and Emperor was against this relation...
Synopsis of this film A prince falls in love with a courtesan. The king is against it.This dance song says * Why fear if we are in love its not a sin.its not robbery etc.* The king wants to entomb her alive in a wall of bricks. Her mother pleads for clemency. He releases her to her mother n banishes them from his kingdom. They are sent away secretly.
Wow.. I can't believe you reacted to this :) This is a legendary movie and this song is one the most brilliant songs of all times. Such a wonderful romantic drama movie. The dialogues and songs from this movie are outstanding. Thanks so much for reacting to this song. Wish there were subtitles, you would have understood the song better :)
This is not just about a movie.. This movie has been made in replica to the real palace which has mirrors on the wall. It's called Sheesh Mahal or Glass palace. The palace is the part of Agra fort and is closed for public since 2003.The palace has been declared world Heritage Site by UNESCO and is only open to VVIP This palace is king Akbar's palace (Mughal Emperor) and what you see here actors and actress portraying as king Akbar (Actor in center) and on his right is his queen Jodha and to his left another actor as prince Salim. The girl dancing is the palace courtesan and she was so beautiful and good at her dance that she was bestowed with the title as Anaarkali by the king. The dance is again an Indian traditional dance called Kathak. However; as per the royal tradition the courtesans are only for the Royal entertainment purpose. These females or any members of palace who did not belong to the Royal family are treated as menials. However here a lowly courtesan although beautiful and prince Salim are in love and she is challenging the king that his permission is not required to be in love with someone of a higher status. God has given her the permission. It's believed that in real king Akbar got her buried alive in the wall of the palace so just she could not marry prince Salim and become the future queen of the country.. This is from somewhere between 1542 (king Akbar DOB and 1605 king Akbar death year)
Only for shooting this song in "shees mahal " (mirror/glass palace) the movie have spent lot of money ...n at those time hire the UK team to shoot , they said its not possible to shoot with so much reflection due to mirror all around than the same team shoot it n this song becomes epic of all time .. This movie is great in sense of technical aspect also ..

Clearly a magnum opus historical drama and the most expensive movie made at the time when movies were usually made at 10% of this movies total budget of 15 million INR. Nothing was compromised in this movie. Be it the acting, music, songs, costumes and set and one of the very few movies to have stayed in production for 16 years. And originally it was only 10% in color and rest was b/w but the director really dreamt of making it in color but it wasn't to be. However it was digitally remastered in full colour and re released after 44 long years in 2004 and only the legendary Dilip Kumar was the lone survivor from the original cast was present at its colored launching along with Naushad SB (Music director)and not to forget this song was drafted at least a 100 times before being finalized and recorded at three different areas to create the echo effect. Small room, large room and then a big hall
She was a dancer in emperor Akbar but loved his son she was forced to sing and dance narrating that she did not love Prince Actually she through her dance declared she loved him She was then killed by Emperor she sacrificed her life for the prince
This palece's name is " glass palece " now steel hv in redfort at Delhi . Indian called shish mohal . I hv seen on 1977.Its made by samrat Akbar who ruled India before British .
It's a gem of Indian Cinema and must watch every frame of K.Asif's MUGHAL - E - AZAM. Cinematography by - R.D.Mathur Dialogue written by 4 Genius - 1. Wajahat Mirza 2. Kamal Amrohi 3. Amanullah ( Father of Zeenat Aman) 4. Ehsan Rizvi 4
It's a scene from mughal e azam it's emperor Akbars court n the court dancer is I madly in love the prince n here she is openly proposing him going against all odds
The first hour was filmed in colour, but because of budget constraints, the rest was shot in monochrome, and later colourised by the Indian army whp were the only ones with the equipment capable of doing it
Quite interesting. This is the third movie made on Anarkali and Madhubala was asked to play this role after it was turned down by Bina Rai who had played played the role of Anarkali in a previous hit movie named Anarkali. Both Bina Rai and Madhu Bala were great in their respective portrayals of Anarkali. The war between Prince Salim and Emperor Akbar was not due to Anarkali but because Salim was impatient to inherit his father's throne. Akbar ruled for 50 years and wanted to hand over the throne to Salim's eldest son Khusrow because he thought that Salim was not fit to become the emperor.
Pls reacts on all old songs, they are gem, this song was made way before my birth but still i love all songs of this movie and all old songs from 60, 70s & 80s. Pls react all old songs ppl like them very much.
K.Asif, Dilip Sahab ,Madhubala ( Mumtaz jahan Begum Dehlvi) ki Azeem Movie Mughal..e..Azam. ishq Wo Mohabbat ki La-fani Dastan.. Most Beautiful URDU Language's & Bollywood ko Salam. Thanks for Video, Dear Ma'am & Sir.Love & Blessing from Kuwait 🇰🇼 الکویت۔
It was in B/w later coloured by technicolor. Its about Mughal Emperor Akbar and Prince Salim. It's one of the Greatest movies ever made... Rated R is because of Violence not nudidity.. I have seen it many times... One of the greatest... I bet if u see it u will see even Hollywood cudnt have made it this good in 1960s
can you stop with the comparisons, Hollywood had 2001 a space odyssey in the 60s imagine a movie like that being made in the 60s , we dont need belittle the other just to prove one is great
The dancer is Anarkali who was the love interest of mughal prince Selim who later became emperor Jahangir. In this video the angry man sitting in the thorn is Emperor Akbar, who didn't like his son's affair with a dancer. Akbar later imprisoned Anarkali and she was exiled in Lahore where she died.
One of my favorite movies and absolutely favorite songs of all times. The movie was shot in black and white and later colored. A story about the love affair between Indian Sultan Akbar's son and a commoner.
After this song, she will be arrested, because she was a poor/normal girl who was in love with the king's son. She describes in this song that, no matter we cannot hide our love and loving someone is not a sin. This makes the king angry and she will be taken into custody.
@@tamanawilson9265 no 😂 you are not clear about the historic background - all courtesans are not simple prostitutes. The type that Madhubala had portrayed were very well educated in poetry music classical dance etc. Could a high ranking prince be interested in a lady who has many sexual partners already & this is not Europe in middle ages but a place where there was purdah & harem.
@@dipanwitadasgupta5221 I tried reading about it but it just sounded like prostitution to me. Like Pakeezah when the lady kept bumping into all her former customers. What is the difference between institutional concubinage and being a high class prostitute??
The story after this goes like ...The emperor gave her death sentence by crushing in a wall... At last she was given pardon and sent out if kingdom. For every one she is dead. But in reality she is alive
Great film...of the subcontinent..k Asif produced it the most awaited film for the public of of india n pakistan to be released n cinema afterwards on tv...iconic fim...this song was banned to be played on radio after released as u5t was said that girls started eloping with their boy ftiends...
You need a lot of context to really understand this entire song sequence.. Well, the sequence ends with her being thrown in jail. She had acrually made a promise to leave the Mughal royal court after this dance..Which she breaks by declaring her love for the son while also asserting her admancy to stay at the court and not go away.. It is an epic from the 60s on a scale similar to BEN HUR or TEN COMMANDMENTS..so if you have the time abd inclination, do watch it..You will see how it has inspired so many of the recent history based movies from Bollywood..
The Hero and Heroin are in reality real live also were in love with each other but the girls father was against the relationship 'STARING DILIP KUMAR AND MADUBALA .
The greatest film ever made in Indian Cinema. No bollywood actress can surpass in beauty of Madhubala and to the acting of Dilip Saheb. Thanks from Jeddah
Absolutely right 👍💯 brother
Absolute truth❤❤
You forgot Prithviraj Kapoor aswell. These guys were pure theatre legends
For Beauty there was sharmila, hema Malini, Aishwarya....but Madhubala was excellent in expressions

Jab pyar kiya toh darna kya Why fear if you're in love
This film and song reflect that how Indian subcontinent is rich in art & culture!
Thanks for playing this epic masterpiece

This movie was in black and white. What you are watching is the remastered coloured version of the movie
The first hour was filmed in colour, but because of budget constraints, the rest was shot in monochrome, and later colourised by the Indian army whp were the only ones with the equipment capable of doing it
Yes i would recommend you to watch this movie for Thursday throwback
Just watch the film now. It's a classic.
I know people who have watched this movie more then 100 times when ever they watch this movie it's look new.

I have seen it many times... One of the greatest... I bet if u see it u will see even Hollywood cudnt have made it this good in 1960s
can you stop with the comparisons, Hollywood had 2001 a space odyssey in the 60s imagine a movie like that being made in the 60s , we dont need belittle the other just to prove one is great
Understand lyrics for knowing what it truly is🔥
The dancer is Anarkali who was the love interest of mughal prince Selim who later became emperor Jahangir. In this video the angry man sitting in the thorn is Emperor Akbar, who didn't like his son's affair with a dancer. Akbar later imprisoned Anarkali and she was exiled in Lahore where she died.

Finest movie in Indian cinema one of the masterpiece movie of his own kind
This movie, its heart touching songs and acting performed by Dalip Kumar, Madhu Bala and Prithvi Raj Kapoor is a mile stone in Indian Film History.
One of my favorite movies and absolutely favorite songs of all times. The movie was shot in black and white and later colored. A story about the love affair between Indian Sultan Akbar's son and a commoner.
Old is gold
My favourite song
What a voice of lata mangaskar
After this song, she will be arrested, because she was a poor/normal girl who was in love with the king's son. She describes in this song that, no matter we cannot hide our love and loving someone is not a sin. This makes the king angry and she will be taken into custody.
It wasn't just that 😅 it was more like she was a courtesan😂
@@dipanwitadasgupta5221Does that mean she had many sex partners already?
@@dipanwitadasgupta5221 So what type was she? I have tried reading about it but it’s so difficult to understand
The actress madhubala was really in love with the actor and he with her but her father was against it. She died young of a hole in the heart
Beautiful actor madhumala
The story after this goes like ...The emperor gave her death sentence by crushing in a wall... At last she was given pardon and sent out if kingdom. For every one she is dead. But in reality she is alive
Dilip Kumar was the best actor in Bollywood ever
Great film...of the subcontinent..k Asif produced it the most awaited film for the public of of india n pakistan to be released n cinema afterwards on tv...iconic fim...this song was banned to be played on radio after released as u5t was said that girls started eloping with their boy ftiends...
This song lisen I'm really i have goshbump
Madhubala showed the world what she was capable of....
It is an epic from the 60s on a scale similar to
BEN HUR or TEN COMMANDMENTS..so if you have the time abd inclination, do watch it..You will see how it has inspired so many of the recent history based movies from Bollywood..
The Hero and Heroin are in reality real live also were in love with each other but the girls father was against the relationship 'STARING DILIP KUMAR AND MADUBALA .
Yes the great k asif who made Indian cenima very much parallel to the Hollywood.
जय भारत जय संबिधान 🇮🇳💐💐💖🙏🙏🎶🎼💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
