Breathtaking Playa Mar Chiquita, Puerto Rico

Mar Chiquita is one of the more popular natural pool beaches just 45 minutes west from San Juan on the north coast. This picture-perfect cove, located in the town of Manatí, is not always good for swimming, but it is always beautiful.
The water in this natural pool is crystal clear, constantly being refreshed with every wave that pushes from the ocean through the channel in the rocks.
While the waters are calmer during the summer months, winter turns this into a spectacular sight to be seen. Waves crash against the rock wall going up as high as 25 feet, rushing down like fierce waterfalls. The water rushes in through the channel with fury, giving beach goers a great wave.
Because of the shape of the cove and the narrow area between the rocks where water comes in and goes out, there can be serious undertows. It is possible to get sucked out into the open ocean when the water flows back out of the cove. There are no lifeguards on duty, so beware of the sometimes dangerous swimming conditions.

I am Puerto Rican living in Missouri and I have been at this beach many times and it has never been this active. I love going to the island to visit my family and to enjoy the beauty of the beaches and the sea. But I must say that when the waves are this active, you need to be very careful because you can easily be sucked in or dragged into the deep waters. No matter how good you are swimming, the sea is dangerous and you can lose your life in a split second. With that being said, if you visit the island and decide to go to the beach, make sure you wear a life jacket just to be sure. God bless my little island.
I worked in Manati near Mar Chaquita and I went there many times. I saw it worse than this one time. The road down to the beach was blocked by the police as the waves extended to the parking lot. Other times it was so peaceful. It is a Taino holy place, at least that is what i was told.

We saw some waves like that back in March 2018. A wave came over the rocks like that and rolled my little girl. She said she was pretty sure it was a tsunami. haha

Esta playa en un año,ya no existirá el mar se comera' estás rocas marinas,pues el Cambio Climático acabará con la belleza de las rocas,x que quedarán sepultadas.
