Typical of the sociological archetype "ectomorph major/ endomorph mix" body type. No emphasis or fixation on sociological fixation on the body and fashion trappings. Rather, they live for exploration and implementation of knowledge, knowledge and more knowledge (think of the "Brainiac and Peabody" stereotypes across our literature and media).
Their focus is laser-sharp on that one or two things. They are the gangly, awkward kids in your neighborhood who doesn't fit in anywhere but their little cadre of nerds who also are laughed at. @@MacGuffin1 you got an argument or...? Drones are extremely cheap, tracking lasers and guided projectiles are not. Even basic stuff like shotgun nets could be more expensive per drone disabled than this concept because their easy counter is to move out of their effective range.

That is just a demo video. You can see where these drones have lasers facing up designed to track the target down and follow it until making contact.

@Apple User 2 not as expensive as slamming drones into drones and hoping it's enough to stop the other, the scenario he is talking about - where a lot of drones could come at once - isn't one where said drones are harmless/built for surveillance, swarms mean they probably carry payloads.

Turrets can't move. They aren't mobile. You might need to deploy drones to an area without turrets. We don't even have automated ground turrets in most military bases, we just have manned machined guns.

As an engeneering student myself, I wunder what would happen, if we would use a fraction of military development budgets, for open science.

What he is doing is nothing new or revolutionary, computer vision algos used for tracking have been implemented by grad students in their semester projects all over the world tonnes of time. What he did do is that he offered a simple solution when others were thinking of complex/expensive ones.

I'd just send up cluster bomb EMP missiles into the swarm and fry them. Then, I'd take that same swarm of drones that I didn't waste and attack my aggressor to finish them.
