I reached the summit 18 years ago and began mountaineering with this mountain. I was up and down in five days which is too fast. The Machame Route takes you through the mountain's different ecosystems, from rainforest to moon rock at Barafu high camp. There are no technical challenges. It is a long strenuous hike, and that is because you move too fast up the mountain. The failure rate is very high, but this also is because the trekking companies have short itineraries that are not based on sound acclimatization schedules. Good luck!

My African continent experience was climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro at 55 yoa. I researched guides and chose one that had a high success rate (Thomson Safaris) AND they did everything right-followed all your suggestions. They provided one porter and I hired a personal porter. It was a wonderful experience.

Its also the least expensive of the seven summits (besides Mt. kosiousco). Its impossible to do Kili without a guide. One thing I have learned from visiting scores of foreign countries is that you gotta visit them on the terms of the country you are visiting.

Mount Kosciuszko is not in the seven, it is Puncak Jaya instead. It was but seriously, 2000 m is nothing.
