I'm a fabric lover too. :) It wouldn't suit me, but I love the hair cut. It's easy maintenance and it suits her style. She gives a calm and relaxed vibe to the video. Which is very pleasant.
Love her and her message and especially love how she blends the fabrics : that makes it dynamic and appropriate, as culture in my opinion is invention.
Kente cloth is West African, indigenous to Ghana, the Fanti and Ashanti and other tribes weave this traditional cloth and the colours are particular to certain klans and chiefdoms.
Was about to comment the same. Kente is a distinct Ghanaian textile. I really enjoyed her feature but that was an incorrect statement on her part. Perhaps it was a brain fog moment
There is little education about ethnic clothing from the African continent. There are so many different nations, tribes and kingdoms and within them infinite cloths, clothes and what they symbolise. Until we accept the humanity of these peoples and give appropriate attention to learning their different culture, we will continue to lump Africans and African products in one amorphous primitive mass from which we steal and appropriate with impunity.
I have a friend in her 70s who is a textile artist who goes to Indonesia each year and I guess she too could be accused of appropriating stuff. The other side is she pays for everything, she fostered Indonesian kids, the villages she's gone for years give her a grand welcome and she supported those communities through bad times e.g. after the Bali bombings, and they let her sketch and them and like the lino prints and other art works she makes that have Indonesian themes. Actual contact and treating each other as equals makes all the difference.
@@swiftbanderilla Yes, thats right. kente cloth originated from west Africa, but kente cloth is also sold all over Africa. She could have got her kente cloth North Africa and that could be perhaps why she said it was from North Africa.
Anyone else in love with this woman or is it just me? Serious question lol also couldn't care less how old she is :) She's got a crazy aura that jumps out at you from the CPU Screen. Please pass on the message and put a smile on her face, please. Cheers. Toodleloo.
@@AthenaGM maybe but still for someone so grounded in fashion I expected she would have done her homework. Its such a simple fact kente is so unique you can't associate it with anything else but Ghana.
I only get clothes I can do everything in, including sleep. I do add cashmere sweaters in every color. I can always use them for eye shades at night..I just turn the sweater inside out!
@ 5:42 We know that every human being on earth shares the same mitochondrial DNA that traces all the way back to the same group of women in Great Grandmother Africa. As human being migrated out of Africa and spread out over the earth settling in colder climates where they suddenly had to wear clothing to keep warm and therefore could not absorb nutrients from the sun a sudden epigenetic mutation took place causing less melanin which made it possible to get nutrient with less skin exposed the same genes responsible for melanin affected eye color and hair texture ...race is merely a series of a long line of genetic mutations...we are all cousins! Cultures and languages developed when human beings went in all directions of the earth as well as the textiles that developed along with cloth making and decorative motifs were handed down ...When Amy Yeung mixes textiles from different cultures she is honoring humanity and the creative human spirit! please forgive my long comment Amy is truly inspiring thanks so much for featuring her
Another fabulous woman of a certain age with great personal style...Amy is definitely an original and an inspiration. I so love the return of Closets!

One of the best snap lessons on how not to appropriate other peoples shit !!!!!!!!
LOVEUX
Kente fabrics are not Northern African!!! They are mainly from Ghana which is Western Africa!!! Gosh, how about doing your own research first?
Something hollow about this to me.
really? How so?
Please tell the lady Kente is west African . Please practice what you preach by researching .
Decolonisation ? What an ingrate
🤔🤨🧐???
