This is a very revealing recording. No one is familiar with the full genius of Scarlatti and this recording goes a long way to putting him in his rightful place as one of the most important figures in Baroque music. As you know he has been accused of writing the same keyboard sonata 555 times (Vivaldi has been accused of similar). this proves his incredible breadth of knowledge. I really appreciate it. cheers
JS Bach composed 1200 times the same thing and nobody complains... Bruckner wrote 11 times the same symphony and who cares, he is the giant of music history.
Rediscovering Scarlati. I fell in love with Horowitz's rendition when I was a kid. Now I'm an old man and have listened to this for the first time. So much passion and elegance.
If you hearweissenberg you will wonder howHorowitzwas the only pianist mentioned in his lifetime? American record companies ! BelaBartok recorded some Scarlatti and it is of the highest quality! JOrge Bolet hadan even bigger technique if you talk to pianists in the know! Ivo Pogorelich on Deutsche Grammaphon is the most perfect unbelievable sound and separation of registers you will ever hear recorded !!!
to be honest it was fully clear from the Harpsicord work as well, and writing for just one instrument, in my view of course, does not put a composer down to some misterious ranking level
After the magnificent rendition of all 500+ harpsichord sonatas by Scott Ross, we can finally enjoy the full integral of Scarlatti's violin sonatas of the same quality as their keyboard counterparts. Thank you for uploading, Brilliant Classics!
D.Scarlatti violin sonatas are very unique and impressive. Violin is sad. It is like the protagonist's desperate line in a play. It is appealing and exquisite performance.. This sonatas will be my favorite repertoire from now on. It cannot be better than this.

Many thanks for posting these; over a period of several weeks I worked my way through the Scott Ross recordings of the harpsichord sonatas (which I have always liked), but the violin sonatas were terra incognita. They're as wonderful in their way as the harpsichord pieces.

Fantastisk musik av en av de tre stora kompositörerna som var födda samma år. Det magiska året 1685. Bach, Händel och Scarlatti.

Agreed that this is marvelous, but Monica Huggett's performances of several of the violin sonatas in the Ross cycle are very fine, not to be missed.
