We did this at Western Michigan University when I was in grad school. That was way too long ago, but I still remember every note of this. (I didn't have the lead :( but our lead was amazing!)
Huh. Listening to his back to back with the Fleming version, I have to say, this one is...really, notably better. I guess it's just Fleming's reputation that makes that seem initially surprising.
Why do you keep coming back here if you dislike it so much? I like Fleming's recording as well, but one should also take age into consideration. Fleming was about 39 when she recorded it, Racette in her 50's. But thanks for playing.
Sounded fine to me (breathing choices). It was the last note for me. Was it I or was it a hair under?? Feel guilty for even wondering out loud and worse yet, voicing because it was so exquisitely done...
So gorgeous! It makes me cry. Patricia Racette is amazing.
This has been my favorite opera song for years, I love this rendition of it
I have never seen this Opera. i have heard some parts. I think it is one I definitely am looking to experience.
One of my favorite arias.
This does it for me every time 😭
So what if the video isn't in sync with the audio...Just listen. Beautifully sung. 💙💙❤❤

I liked Renée Fleming’s version better!

@@paulpadillo4591 I don’t “dislike it so much”. I just like Fleming’s voice better! I didn’t know Racette was that age when she sang it.
Wobble city.
Don't you say this all the time?
Why does she have to breathe so hard?
It takes a lot of breath to sing long phrases, and she could even have been singing this while sick. It takes a lot more breath to sing when sick.
And she is connecting phrases for the words, making them even longer.

I've heard 14,354 women sing arias, and there is nothing wrong with her breathing.
Ugh! The video and audio are not in synch!!
