I think you’ve definitely got the right idea by sticking to a flagship product and expanding the Loungeface range in that direction, rather than selling other kinds of beauty products.
It seems to be more in line with your area of expertise in beauty, which is lashes!
I LOVE the brow products, don’t get me wrong - but I can find other products that are almost as good, and be satisfied using them. There is no other mascara on the market that even comes close to Loungeface, and I will die on this hill. I’ve tried dozens of mascaras at this point, and yours is the only one that ticks all the boxes and then some.
Thank you for sharing this journey with us, it’s such a privilege to gain insight into these key business decisions.
You’re so eloquent and switched on, a truly rare breed amongst “influencers” these days - “influencer” (in the modern sense) isn’t a word I’d associate with you at all.

      Is loungeface waterproof?

    • @circeular
      @circeular 3 місяці тому +3

@@melissayoutube It's waterproof up to a certain point - few drops of water or tears. It's what is called a "tubing mascara", which just means it contains an extra ingredient(s) called polymers; these types of mascaras are actually removed with water.
Tubing mascaras are really good for people with oily skin, as they're less likely to transfer and flake. :)

“Reliable so you can relax” is the cutest logo. I feel like you can really market off of that more than the new logo. Chapstick, setting powders, tinted moisturizer, mascara, etc. low maintenance beauty products would be amazing

Also, one step eyeshadow sticks are super popular right now and all I use. And you could do an entire face bundle with an eyeshadow stick, mascara, and brow or something. Make it easy and simple and market off of the “so you can relax” logo. I think it would take off and I’d of course
      Order!

I vote for not the rebrand. I don’t like shopping at brands that I can only get one thing. I get staying very limited in your product offerings but I love your brow products and would hate to see them go. Loyalty for me is all about the quality of products and everything you’ve come out with hits. Definitely was looking forward to lip products.

I disagree with most people here... The reason I love loungeface isn’t for the mascara. It’s what got me into your brand yes, but what kept me around was the effort and thought you put into your products. You didn’t just make cheap lacklustre products to make easy money off your followers (like other influencers) - you made them to be quality, unique, and affordable. I LOVE that about loungeface and was really looking forward to you expanding into other areas and products. Yes I can go down to Priceline and pick up any old brow pencil easily. But they’re simply not as good as yours.. or at least I haven’t found one like yours yet. Once I find a good brand that I love and believe in, I stay pretty loyal to it and will keep buying from it. For example, I love the Clinique moisture surge moisturiser because it got similar rave reviews to your mascara and is a really good quality product, and now I keep going back and trying their other products too because I think it’s a good brand now based on that one really quality item. I love loungeface brow products and would be devastated if they were removed :’( Was so looking forward to the lip liners/oils. But understand you have to do you and what you believe in, why I loved loungeface to begin with

Totally agree! do what you're good at. I'd say also look into eyeliners! I don't think I would buy multiple mascaras (I choose one and stick with it for a while) but I would absolutely buy a mascara and eyeliner bundle and I feel like they make sense to go together. Not sure how easy it is to manufacture eyeliners but mascara, eyelash primers, eyeliners, lash curlers, lash separater tool, and eyeliner sharpeners could really make sense. No shade matching, no long-term "commitments" but just reliable eye products would be awesome

  • @nicolecurrie5700

“Reliable so you can relax” is so cute and aligns with why I follow you and buy your products. I barely wear makeup but knowing you have put so much thought into each product means I can rely on them being great quality and I don't have to go searching through a bunch of reviews and deal with the constant overconsumption of all the new trends. Being someone who doesn't wear makeup a lot, my opinion probably isn't too important, but if I ever wanted to try a new thing then I would be checking if you sold it first. I will probably buy all your products no matter which direction you take, but I personally would love if you sold a range of products! I think, like how you have with the mascara if you run with the brand of creating reliable, well thought out and unique products, you will be able to lock in with the group of consumers who stay loyal to a product they love and they will try any new products in the same brand because of the care they know goes into them.

I love the idea of a range of specialized mascaras and totally agree with the points you made!!! Especially like the bundles because I wear different mascaras depending on the day. I wear a waterproof mascara most days because it holds a curl. But for quick errands or “no makeup” makeup I like a regular mascara just to get a light coat of color on my lashes. Would love to see you come out with a bottom lash mascara too! So excited to see where you take the brand ❤

I don’t know man! I never feel like my brows are ON POINT until I do my lashes, and never feel like my lashes are on point either until I do my brows. To me lashes and brows are so within close proximity that they go together! After all, they’re called EYEbrows and EYElashes for a reason I think, and that still keeps you in the “eye” area. And you do both products BEAUTIFULLY and it would be such a loss to discontinue the brows line. And I think the market will pick up with the tubing mascara formula and there will be many great options in the market along with yours. But the brows industry been going strong for so long and yet you managed to bring to market killer brow products!

I appreciate this post, as someone with sparce difficult brows and oily skin and good brow product can boost my confidence and help add ease to my make up routine with lasting results. So if I had the funds or when I’d try your product. But with the economic situation in the US I find myself reaching for the cheapest brands at the closest location most of the time. I’ll definitely grab a bundle when I can maybe during the holidays! Wishing you the best. Side note- I’ve tried MANY mascaras. I have straight lashes, and only certain lash curlers work for me and only 1 mascara keeps them curled with a decent thickness and length -Maybelline colossal volume cat eye water proof. But I’ve never tried a tubeing mascara and it’s on my to do list.

    1. Rebrand - LoungeLash.
    2. Go back to basics - go back to just lashes which is your speciality, and your “why” (mascara, primer, lash serum, possibly false lashes?)
    3. Get a good marketing strategist on your books to build a marketing plan and implement it for 6 months.

I feel focussing on the eyes /lashes/brows is a great idea! Since the mascara is a little more expensive than brands at Priceline and CWH I feel like honing in on luxury, reliable, ethically made makeup will attract people to lounge face. Since lounge face is also online, I think the website could do with a revamp!? Although the fluorescent colours of the products are eye catching I wonder if the website could be more user friendly and aesthetic. Currently the moving headings and block out colours make things look a bit tacky in my opinion. Love this for you Lauren and can’t wait to see what’s in store for lounge face!!! ❤

I'm late to this video but my thoughts are 100% go with your gut and do whats right for you! This sounds like a good idea and what will be true to you 💕What I will say though is you don't necessarily have to get rid of your other products/not go with the lipliners but maybe not make it a focus of your brand, if that makes sense? The reason I say that is the first brand that came to my mind was the quick flick. They have their original and most popular product (eyeliner stamp) that they are known for but have since expanded to other products that are not eyeliners but still capture their original concept of easy to use products. Another brand I thought of was lash fridays - are known for their lash serum but have expanded out to a few more products that align to them but are still known for their original product.
This isn't to compare you to them at all but what I mean to say is there are many brands that are successful by sticking with their flagship products and original concepts but have launched a few extra products over time ❤

I haven’t finished watching her so my apologies if you address some of these things later in the video.
Specialise in lashes but keep building your product line with other face/body products.
How many mascaras does the average person really buy/need/use? Creating the need for lash variety and selling a couple to the one customer is great, but having other great makeup products to choose from while they’re in the buying mood would be smart imo.
Another point: I don’t use mascara because I have lash extensions, but I am in need of a new brow pencil and just happen to be watching this video so I’m about to see if your brow products are in stock for me to purchase! But if you only had mascara, I wouldn’t be able to be your customer.
Re: the lip oil. If it’s has a delicious scent and/or taste or beautiful sheen in the product photos or cute/unique packaging or there’s hype around it, the chances of me just adding to cart on a whim while I buy brow products is high. Imo, people generally might have one or two mascaras at a time, but a lot more people buy a LOT more lip products! 🫶

As someone who has followed you for a very long time and have only in the last year or so purchased your products (since the brow products launched actually). I 100% will be repurchasing the Mascara, but likely not the eyebrow products. Don't get me wrong, I love them! But I can purchase similar for a more affordable price given the beautiful creaminess of the pencil, it just didn't last long enough for me to justify the price.
HOWEVER the Mascara absolutely I can justify and love enough that I'll only purchase Loungeface again and I'd love to see a brown launched.
I'm blessed enough with my genes to not need curlers or serums (at least at my age). I agree, stick to what you know and love and are passionate about!

I bought the mascara in 2021 and haven’t used anything else since! I am asked so often what mascara I use and have bought them as gifts for friends knowing they will love it too!
I purchased the brown crayon for the first time this year after using benefit for years, the crayon was fine, but soft, and lasted wayyyy less than benefit. It reminded me of the maybelline one I used to use and stopped for the same reason. Benefit is more expensive but I can get away with buying it twice a year. Economically, it makes more sense to go back to that. You are also very correct, no one asks what brow products you use, and assume that brows are natural.
For bundles, I’m less likely to buy multiple mascaras, I know what I like and what I want, but for a different demographic who don’t know maybe it would be good for them.

  • @Duduca17
    @Duduca17 3 місяці тому

I've been a follower for over a decade, and I've applied many of your tips, especially on eyelashes, though I haven't been able to purchase your products since I live in Europe. That said, I've been eagerly awaiting the chance to try your mascara and would buy anything lash-related you put out. For everything else, I've found products that work for me, but I'm always interested in improving my lashes, and you’re my go-to authority in that area.
My suggestion is to focus on products that enhance fuller, curlier lashes. For instance, a smudge-proof brown/black eyeliner for the top waterline that doesn’t transfer to the bottom (as it often does for me) would be incredibly helpful. I love the effect of fuller lashes with a top waterline liner, but it’s hard to avoid transfer to the bottom waterline, which isn't the look I'm after.
In short, I’d love to see you continue innovating in the lash space and come up with more unique ways to enhance eyelashes, building on the beautiful mascara you've already created (which I can’t wait to try!).

  • @sylvia9812
    @sylvia9812 3 місяці тому +1

But what if the “good brow system” I stick with is yours 😭?! Your brow builder and pencil have become everyday staples of mine, so I’d personally be crushed if you discontinued those 🥲 (Which IF that’s the case, how long do you think the brow builder’s shelf life would be if I want to stock up on back ups to last me for several years 🫠?)
But your reasoning for wanting to discontinue them is totally understandable.
As mentioned, it’s true that I’m more likely to experiment with mascaras, and if you were to develop different formulas, I would likely try each variation (just because the quality of your current mascara is amazing and it’s the only one I’ve tried that doesn’t give panda eyes). However, once I find my “holy grail” I’d probably just stick to that and I would be unlikely to buy mascara bundles. Someone in the comments mentioned mascara/eyeliner bundles, and that would definitely be something I would purchase because I use both on the daily (And although I currently have an eyeliner I like, it unfortunatley still flakes off. Sooo many eyeliners and they all either flake or smudge for me).
Perhaps instead of specializing only in mascara, you can focus on eye/brow products??
But I’m also conflicted about saying that because you mentioned you love your lip oils and liners, and if they’re something you love and are proud of, it’d be a shame if you give up on them. And I feel like you don’t release products just for the sake of releasing them. Like there are companies out there trying to pump out new products every season, but I feel like the way you develop and release products are more meaningful. It’s not just something slapped together to be the new shiny thing, you’re releasing things that you yourself genuinely love and use all the time. So why not make/keep them?
But if you’re passionate about mascara the most, then maybe mascara could be the main specialty of the brand, but there can also be a few minor staples like brow, lips, etc? But I’ve never run a business, so I really don’t know how the logistics of that would be.
I also think there’s nothing wrong with the name. Like look at the name “google” or “yahoo” I feel like those are silly names but now we don’t think twice about it. I think Loungeface sounds nice 😊! (I actually prefer the old tagline as well!)
I feel like I rambled for too long, but regardless of which direction you go, know that you made some amazing products so far, and I’m sure whatever comes next will be just as amazing ❤️

I definitely think reeling it in is a good idea, and to focus on a core product that brings your brand the most revenue. On the other hand, I think it also makes sense to create and come out with product “just because you like it”.
Obviously numbers are important, but I think that’s the beauty of having ownership is putting out product that makes you happy.
If it doesn’t sell well, don’t restock. If it’s a hit make it a core product. not sure if this is all easier said than done, just my initial thoughts 😅

  • @meaganparker3369

I feel like people will gravitate to more of a range. So rather than producing one product at a time to sell, give the opportunity for the consumer to have options. If you continue producing make up, maybe release more products at once so we have the opportunity to browse.
Specialising in mascara/lashes is cool. leaning into something like “lash kits or bundles” which come with a mascara/lashes/glue/primer, it’s something high end brands don’t usually offer.

I think mascara is easier for people to form strong opinions on, whereas brows have a wider range of acceptability. I know for me I have a firm lists of "musts" for a mascara--no flaking,, smudging, and easy to come off--and once I find one that meets that criteria I rarely try something new. I am way less harsh on my brow products. As someone who is ashy blonde, I just need the color to be a good color and I'm not particular about the rest. I don't care if its crispy hold, soft hold, somewhere in between, etc. which means a lot more products meet my expectations and I am way more willing to try new things based on what's in stock when I run out.
All that aside, I did recently buy the Loungeface Brow Builder in taupe and you did an excellent job with the color and I'm really enjoying the product! Brow products marketed for blondes so often lean red, or breakdown to red in the sun (cough cough the NYX Lift & Snatch Brow Tint Pen Eyebrow Pen in taupe goes NEON red if you spend some time outside...) but this one is a great match for me.

Lauren i know this vid is a month old so idk if this comment is remotely helpful - but i wanted to throw this out there. Why not both? The investment in both might be too much, but i can see you specialising in eyes - keep the brow products that your loyal customers love and expand into the mascara stuff too. You could have the mascara quiz and everything (i love this idea btw) but also have room to release more products that make your eyes pop. Brows are a big part of that too, so i just think it would be a best of both worlds way to expand?? And then if you do the mascara expansion and want to release more products down the line you could do eye pencils or highlighters for the inner corner or eyeshadows eventually if you wanted. I think its a really marketable idea too - "pop every day" "enhance the everyday" "stand out effortlessly" and branding around that idea of enhancing your eyes, everyone's best natural feature. It also ties into what you've been talking about recently with wanting to change your makeup style to suit your pale skin/age more and moving away from the full glam. I think you could carve out this wonderful niche of creating amazing key products for people who do only want a short and sweet makeup routine, in that no makeup makeup world.
Anyway - whatever you do will be wonderful i am sure but just wanted to add my 2 cents! Sending you 🫶🫶

I've following you for years! And I'm dying to buy yours mascaras but I only can use waterproof, please do one! (Not only me hahah there's a lot of that if they don't use a waterproof mascara the curl won't hold, and my lashes are straight af). Love you!!

I think to continue with only lashes products, and specialize in it, within your brand is a great idea.

I wanted to share my 2c being someone who’s worked in store at Mecca, and sells for ecom clients via Meta ads.
I listened to a really great podcast once - Second Life with Anastasia from ABH. She shared that the reason ABH took off was because she was able to teach people how to apply her products well. It might be helpful for you?
I think getting your brow products into a retailer where the staff can help educate customers on how to use the brow products would be a great move. Alternatively, you might need to invest more in creative to support your ads and Shopify product pages. Show people before and afters and how to apply the products. Teach them about which ones they need to achieve certain looks or based on how their natural brows are. I think if you think the products are great, they might just need a push. You’re right, people with great brows I generally assume are genetically blessed, not that it’s product haha.
Bundles are an awesome option to encourage mascara loyalists to try something new. Instead of investing in ads, why not offer your existing customers a chance to try your brow products at a cheaper rate? Cheaper to keep a customer than buy a new one!

"Reliable so you can relax" is an amazing catch phrase. I think you would be doing Loungeface a disservice to not use the phrase and to only stock mascara. I'm not in a financial position to buy Loungeface at the moment but if I were, you only stocking mascara would deter me from purchasing. I would want to try multiple products. I agree with another comment saying you could really market that phrase and sell beauty staple products.

I've only ever found like 3 or 4 mascaras that work well with my straight, thin lashes that fall so fast if the formula isn't right. I think if you focused on lashes and brought out mascaras for every type of person that would be awesome! Brands come out with mascaras so fast and they usually don't work for people like me whose lashes arnt naturally curly or long.

    My thoughts:
~ Lounge face would include mascara, eye brows, and lips because if you’re just highlighting those features while being your day to day self.
~ Bundles are a great idea. Could include mascara, brows, and lips. Bundles could include different combinations based on persons needs+basic colors.
~ The customizable aspect would be cool, so if a website could create bundles for a persons needs plus then have like prepackaged bundles or single products would be nice touch.
~ Stick to mascaras that make sense to your brand plus then requests that fall in line with brand.
~ Maybe find one manufacturer for all products to better use that organization and form an identity with the brand.
~ I don’t love the packaging, but that’s not to say it’s bad. Could add like idk stickers or something to make the packaging more customer focused to decorate their product.
~ I like that you’re focusing on the why. I think you’re doing well with the lounge face concept. Just keep focusing on what products create that look for day to day happenings. Natural and beautiful.

Idk if someone else commented this but i think it would be awesome to have the kit option but with the mascara and brow product! Like to me thats literally what loungeface is, what’s the bare minimum i can use to look put together lol and that’s brows and mascara!

Also, want to point out that you shouldn’t dwell on ideas that you’re already indecisive about. You were firm on the Mascara and it paid off, you don’t seem firm on the brows and looks like it did not. You seem firm on lash specialisation and judging your comment section, it’s going to pay off big time. Most people associate niches as limiting your ability to capitalise but even consider from a SEO and meta data stand point how you can capitalise on anyone searching for perfect lash solutions. ABH is a great example of this. An influencer revolutionising a niche market and how that idea would nicely price your company value in a multi billion dollar industry. Don’t let imposter syndrome get the better of you. And act fast!

There are just so many good mascara’s at the drugstore that I don’t think you need to be paying for shipping. I would only indulge & pay for shipping if I was investing in some high end retinal or foundation that can’t be sourced locally.

So I’m a fair skin, blue eyed red head with proudly long lashes that I’m not ashamed to show off😂. We are probably the biggest buyers of brown mascara. Yes, less than 2% of the world has red hair but a lot of us do prefer a brown mascara… and they are hard to find in a good quality. So if you did release a good brown mascara, us red head girls are like a cult and the word spreads and we’d be forever grateful to be able to rely on you 😅

I tried your mascara once & I did like it, however didn’t repurchase as I think there are many just as good, slightly cheaper ones available & don’t involve shipping costs/waiting for delivery. The brow pencil/builder didn’t work for me personally. Would probably repurchase mascara if it was available shopfront purely due to convenience & lack of patience.

Specializing in lashes sounds like you’re more passionate and driven. It would keep you on track a lot easier.
When you have enough sales and feeling that expansion itch, you could trail different products as passion products. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making products you like, because you like them…. Because someone else will like it too. But I understand the financial risk required to do so.

I say specialise. I would buy a black and brown in a bundle. I don’t think there is any need for another influencer/celebrity brand with the whole range of same same products. I don’t quite understand the name Loungeface though. Doesn’t connect with me but great mascara!
