I rode this several times back then. I remember a contest when the Captain & Tennille did a concert at the Music Mill Theater, and the winners (virtually all who slid) got a "Love Will Keep us Together" vinyl album as a prize. However, I missed the contest, so I bought one at the store for $6. :-(
I remember I was so small and light, I kept getting stuck on the more flat areas and had to scoot my butt along the slide until I got to the next down hill section. Still had a blast.
Looks fun, but it also looks like you could get seriously f'ed up by the looks of it. Funny thing is, I rode that as a kid, but can't recall what it was like.
Yep. Sliding straight from the top of the oil derrick down 15 stories hill after hill. No wonder we got hurt. Most of the time, you stalled on windy days when it was blowing against you. But when the wind was with you, you'd catch a lot of air. It was like the superman plunge.
Rode it a couple of times before they took it out. I remember touching my elbow on the track while sliding down and got a 'rope burn' on my skin. Didn't care for it much after that. It was removed in the late 70s.
i would have been there early 70s around 5-7 years old... we lived pretty close so went every summer... i remember coming back one year and it was gone so but remembered it fondly... fortunately they still ha the mini mine train and that sombrero like ride or the wave or something, i cannot remember name, it was for the grown ups lol and you really had to hang on! later in life I worked there during holiday in the park and it was a great reunion getting to ride everything anytime I wanted but the part seemed smaller and they also had the ski lifts or like that the sky boxes wed ride around park if I remember but that was when very young also... lol
Back then, we weren’t pussies. Today, one of our society’s pansies would merely have to look at it, and want to sue for a safe space, and trauma. And for the record, I rode it many times. It was called personal responsibility back then. Something we don’t seem to have today, because it’s always someone else’s fault, right?
I wish they still had this this looks fun
It was a lot of fun. We lived in Dallas from 1974-1977. I remember riding this. I was in 4th grade.

I remember that as well
That slide only lasted a few years. People got hurt and this video shows. But I loved sliding on it.

I wish they still had that it looks AWESOME

I rode this many times, Usually the far outside lanes were the fastest ones.
More flags, more injuries!

Oh sweet nice find !
0:27 that kid looked like he having a blast. (Even after hitting his bottom on the slide)
Didn't know we had our own "Action Park"!
I remember flying like that kid and the next year had to push myself down and then it was gone the next.
I remember that slide!! It was so much fun!!
I wonder why they don't have this slide there anymore.
That boy was in some pain that got lifted by the two SF workers near the end.
Looked like a concussion or something
I was too young to ride it. Then they removed it. Hated life.
I can see why they closed that slide down.

Yeah, that was back when life was dangerous.
I was there that day.
What you do when lines to the epic runaway mine train were too long.
So true! LOL!
Too many texas sized people these days for a ride like that
For anyone in this video, is any of you still alive?
Don't go with shorts.
Edit: Or with short sleeves.
That looks awesome. They shouldn't have taken it out.
What happened to the audio?

Nailed it!
Truth. Load up the lawyers in a school bus and drive them all off a cliff!
Lame, you would still get stuck and not slide down.
Not if you got a good start, you could get some good air
