Hearing you say you're quitting the game hit where it hurts. They're digging their own grave, shovel full by horrible shovel full. How can they expect us to care about the story/lore/characters when THEY don't? We are passionate about this game, we want to see it succeed, but how can it when they trip it up so badly every damn week? It's so damned sad.
It's completely true. Maybe SSO thinks their players or kids in general aren't careful enough to notice during very long time that neglect in their updates aren't rareness or that people just will accept it.

Its sooo disappointing. The designs are nice... ok. But they are not at all recognisable anymore :( I played Starshine legacy as a child, and I loved the unique, mysterious atmosphere of the game. I'd love to play the game as the modernised version of the SSL, but it slowly transforming into something completely different. It's not a bad thing, that they change, renew things, but I feel almost no connection to the roots at all, which is a strange feeling.
I had no idea what characters I was even looking at and I have been playing the game since 2012. Never in my life have I seen a game trying to be as complicated as FNAF
Except that the FNAF lore at least is good and makes sense. The story is quite amazing. But SSO's story wasn't made to be this complicated. They really took a bad decision with this.

Basically to put it simple; i don't like how they changed the original lore and created something that looks like an absolute hogwash while at the same time not knowing how to properly write and connect the story together.
Katja is the only one that actually looks kinda like her old self i dont understand why they basically switched the personalities of Sabine and Jessica and i hope that the Chiyo isnt actually gonna be the 4th dark rider but instead it would be something simillar to what it was with Justin
Honestly, I'm treating sso online as an alternate timeline. The dark riders, minus Katja are pulled into a more modern time and have changed from their original looks--they needed to fit into a modern society to go undetected (I'll stick with this theory). I need to see how these four act in game. They look odd together, but I'm hoping they have a some group chemistry.
yea at least in their old style the dark riders looked somewhat cohesive, we've got (what once was a snooty dressage girl) now a biker, a trans person?/completely different character (jessica?/jay?) a child with a stick horse and Katja who, I guess is the most consistent of the four

And here I was just starting to come to terms with Sabine and her new design. Then these designs comes along, especially seeing this Chiyo-girl and I’m left not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
The problem is, sso can't seem to decide whether they want to be a sequel to SL or if they want this to be new. They keep certain things, like the Soul Riders, Garnok, Mr. Sands, and even the og Dark Riders. Only, they want to also change things about these already made characters. I'm giving them a chance. Maybe there is a story-reason to do what they did to the Dark Riders, idk. I like the designs, it just doesn't fit with the Dark Riders they had already. I'm giving them a chance, but there are so many ways to mess this up, so we'll see
I would've been ok with sso changing the whole story and design of the game, if there was a problem with the story to begin with. It was already a great story. All they've done by changing these things is they've taken away from their loyal players and confused people
I don't see how SSO couldn't have made the dark riders (the characters that have been here since the beginning) more alive and detailed instead of... creating NEW characters to replace the original ones. Like whAT? I can't wrap my mind around this at all. I think it's definitely time for me to put the game down for a while as well. I just don't understand anymore.
Whether they are doing it on purpose or not, I feel like sso is recreating itself into a whole new game. I wouldn't be surprised if old storylinequests are going to get changed too. Which already happened with the 'saving Lisa quest' for example. I replayed it on a alt. account and it wasn't exactly as I remembered also less epic, so glad I played the older version. Anyways I feel like sso is throwing away all the old things that appealed to us older players and kinda chasing us away. Like they just want their old players gone to start with a whole new generation. Now this is a big assumption and a exaggerated feeling but I just want to share how I feel which is not neccessarily the truth. If they were updating the old stuff their would still be similairities and still a stable storylinequest but it's not anymore. I'm also really losing motivation to play sso, I'll still give it a chance because I barely buy star coins but yeah I might quit too.
I wouldn’t be mad if they updated the old story quest, i just want the story to at very least make sense. Right now it doesn’t. They have red conned so much stuff that I have lost all interest…. So many story has been picked up then never continued. People started playing for the horses and stayed of bc ot the world, lore, stories and characters. No wonder so many people are quitting sso….
@@r.i.pmydog7723 Yes exactly, like I remember with the whole mistfall series it was indicated that it was happening in the now but then the series and graphics in game aren't the same and there was something else that didn't fit right too. Yeah now even in the books Jessica should be called Jay, they will probably leave it as it, otherwise Helena would have to rewrite all those books.
I've been waiting for your video about this! Man what did they smoke when making these designs? 😂 Except for Katja, she looks good. I really don't like the new girl either, but I hope that she'll be kinda like a neutral character in the story. Like she sticks around the Dark Riders for her own reasons, but if there was a better opportunity to achieve them she would ditch them. I like characters like this and based off of her design maybe this could happen, as she looks very different from the others.
Two days ago I was wondering what the new dark riders might look like... One day ago I was excited to see new dark riders so I clicked on the link and I thought it would be 4 girls of the same age with such a dark look... But this... GOD PLEASE NO! WTF IS THAT... I hope katja is really older than she looks and yes I like her design but she is terribly small (at least it looks like it) Sabine is good it still goes away... Jay... Ah Jay is 40 years old? What... THIS. FREAKING THIS. I would've watched and commented earlier but I was baking. Anyways. After watching a German youtuber talk about the new soul riders, which was in a very neutral not very opinion giving way, I was looking forward to watching your video. What the hell were they thinking? I was thinking already that I remembered something wrong but I'm now pretty sure that Nihili was supposed to be the dark rider herself. They don't even know who's name belongs to who anymore. Which means they don't even know their STORIES. Katja tbh still looks the most like herself to me. The others look like freaking adults and a little kid while she looks actually like a teenager who's in school, which they're supposed to be. Honestly when I first saw that kid I thought that that was Maddison who somehow got into trouble with the dark riders, with her story it would've actually suited to happen too. But what was that kid? A freaking dark rider. What the hell is wrong with SSO to think that this makes sense? If they wanted a child in their new graphic then freaking make a good job on giving Maddison an update! Personally I'm only logging in for cats or free stuff. Otherwise I've nothing to do. For clubs I don't have enough time and otherwise there is nothing to do that's actually fun. At least they've by now after I think over two years finally fixed their closet bug, which means it was not fault of my laptop being "too old" or something
This has been a huge problem all this year ever since the glassdoor situation, I would watch the channel rattle the sso youtuber she talks about the problems with sso. Sso has been not really caring about the story and has made gameplay SECONDARY! They are putting making the game pretty instead of the story.
Although what I think they are trying to do is make the new dark riders be the evil versions of the soul riders like how Katja has a violin and Jay has that school kinda look and how sabine looks strong like alex
For the Alex and Sabine looks, it kind of makes me think they might have the same kind of dynamic of "I'm you. But better." That Jasper and Amethyst have in Steven Universe.
We all back you up on this, trust me I did the same thing when seeing the new characters, ok more like I screamed when I saw them. SHE SHOULD BE A 2-YEAR-OLD. Katja, I do agree she looks nice but she is the only reason I'm continuing with the game, I want to see if she is the Ice witch like you said or anything like that, I want to see where her story goes, but util then...I give up with sso.

There was absolutely no reason to change these established and loved characters and stories. Yet SSO decides to throw everything that made this game and community what it is today right in the trash. What will they ruin next? Nothing is stopping them from just discrediting ALL the old lore and loose ends. If they hate everything that makes SSO... SSO... then, why aren't they making a NEW game instead of messing with 10 years of engagement and excitement from a big player base. They don't value us, their players, customers, community.. they don't value star stable online, how it started, why it became so big and loved world wide... they don't value the true passion people feel for the mystery, adventure and danger we all experienced through the previous quests... they care more about their own interest and visions than to make an enjoyable and coherant game. They not only are really bad at story writing and building emotions in the quests nowadays, but they lack any interest of making a game for US, but for THEM. And if that's their goal, they're gonna lose many, many players..

So true. I don't even think they try to make game good for themself, it seems SSO try to be inclusive only to be more buy-able. They don't care for quality of the game. If they do, then they will be careful to make changes smooth and reasonable and to create the good product in general. But for now I see they only care to make SSO expensive, "modern" and bright. Visual updates shouldn't take such a long time when their community is starving for big updates such as long quests, new mechanics and bugfix or anything else. P. S. Can't believe they also told to delete some of the old horses because of performance, that is the biggest lie. What does 4 horses affect the performance. Pfft. When I saw the news page, I started crying, really. When I was in a dark time, I would go on the game and do the story quest, or I'd read my sso book, or play another old sso game. Now this all has been ruined for me. It wasn't as fun anymore since begin 2020 but this was the final sign. I am going to send sso one last goodbye-mail and I'm going to follow your steps and quit. Maybe forever, maybe for a year, maybe for a month or maybe just a week, it's just to show them they are digging their own grave, cuz they are. Goodbye sso. I love you, I really do.
It makes me really sad that you want to quit with theories because i love them, but i understand since sso messes things up constantly and don’t even have a seperate quest team.
I started playing SSO in 2012 but rarely play anymore because of how much it has changed... I mean the designs look a lot better but it doesn't really feel like star stable anymore, I think the main storyline is kind of the most important part of why it's so entertaining and they've lost it :(
I'm a new player to sso, I just started this year because the plot seemed very interesting to me and I hope to find another game with deep lore I could sink into and make theories for. I never got attached to the old cast's looks and peronalities and to be honest I REALY REALY like the new designes and wouldn't want to see them replaced. But the story not making seanse does piss me off a lot, especially the way they treated the books. SSO writing team really need to sit down and figure everything out for the story.
I think the main problem is, is that if you're going to reboot a character, you need to make sure they are recognizable to your audience. Even race bending the characters is fine, as long as their personality, sense of style, age, etc. are recognizable. For example, Sabine would be fine if she was a teenager and dressed in a riding jacket rather then a vest, which tie into the story of her and Jessica attending high school with the soul riders and Sabine being a foil to Anne, being a fellow dressage rider. Jessica should at least have her iconic ponytail, and be dressed more like a model and less like an anime prep guy. Katija is fine as is, if anything making her look like this retained her personality of mystery and creepy. About the new rider, they should have at least kept her name. All we had of the character for so long was her name, and she was played up so much that giving her this design, however good alone, was disappointing in context. I agree that that would have been better as an updated model for Madison, as it fits her personality. Overall, its alot of good work, but it's incredibly important if you reboot a character to retain recognition of the character to hold your audience. If they are so different they break the story (Sabine being older then previously stated in game) or they are unrecognizable in any way (Jessica losing both her known style AND being renamed AFTER using her old name in the NEW book series.), then you have a problem. I hope SSO sees the players reactions now, and makes changes to at least fix or explain these changes.

Remember when we first met Sabine.. She was walking in a circle at the manor and looked like she belonged there. From the state of sso today when we get the new characters they will most likely not change the quests. What will the new players think when at an elegant stable there will be a fortnite character who lookes like they will beat up anyone who even looks at them.
Ive only every played SS online, but i began playing 6/7 years ago. So I've seen a LOT. And i totally agree with you. They're completely leaving the original story behind, and i dont like that because the original story was the one thousands of people fell in love with! And a child as a dark rider...?? That feels horribly wrong.
sabine is meant to be a stuck up schoolgirl around the same age as the soul riders(teenager). i don't like how they're just completely changing everything. yes we want updated characters. yes, we want updated areas. yes, WE WANT MORE STORYLINE. but we don't want everything to be SCRAPPED and redone. :(

There are two most mind blowing facts - first with the Chiyo which I at first thought was just a mistake. I mean with her. And with her look, which basically doesn't suit in the Dark Riders concept. The second mind blowing fact is switched looks between Jessica and Sabine, which is basically the biggest WTF. Especially for me as a player who grew up on Star shine legacy and star stable riders (SSL came out at 2005. At year when I celebrated 9th birthday, so I sticked around this story for 15 year now) and knows everything about the original story. As for Katja... yeah it's still bigger change from the original, but it's not that bad. At least when you compare her to the rest of Dark Riders. As for the story... I hardly can compare SSL story and SSO story. Yeah, sso should take place 2 years after SSL. And yeah, it's nice the story is extended and deepend. But at some points I have feeling that the job extending the original plot isn't done well. As for the books - I found one certain point in them, where it is clearly contradictory with SSO (unfortunately I can't remember what it was), not to mention SSL. To sum it up - I guess I will stick to the game, but I am slowly loosing faith for getting any goof thing which is anyhow related to the story. 🤷♀️😥
If this was a game without any history, without any characters to build from and without a purpose then what SSO has done these past few years would be a nice (not great, the care and quality is just not there) game. But since this is the game a lot of us grew up playing, that already has an interesting backstory, characters (with development) and a goal for the story it is sad and humiliating to see the game transform into this mess. With characters they try to infuse with depth and personality but just end up feeling hollow and without a real purpose in the story, a world were nothing makes sense because they're constantly changing things and butchering the original story instead of building from it. It just feels like there's nothing left of the old game. I can only play it with joy if I ignore where it comes from, if for every confusing update I trick myself into believing that it was meant to be this way and keeping the old game locked away in my heart like other things lost from childhood.
I also started playing just for the story!! I really loved the original old story it had something mysterious and that old nostalogic music had something mysterious as well.. now it's just a childfriendly story who has changed to much.

The Kalter's from Fripp's book live near Garnoks Fury. And the cottage looks abandoned. What is that Cottage is the Kalters?
8 months after this was posted, and new story quests hav come out, I am now depressed because SSO's lore and story was what I lived for and now I am broke too because I thought buying horses would make me feel respected.
I was disappointed when I saw the new dark riders, straying away from their canon profiles and design. But I’m especially angered by angered by Chiyo’s character design. I’m sorry why is there a child dressed in tacky clothes as a dark rider? What is happening! This game is going downhill, new players don’t understand the fuss so they are very supportive of SSO’s decisions. **I don’t like the new Dark Riders and I don’t stand by it either.** I’m already going on a star coin strike, don’t make me go on a game strike StarStable.

The thing that mostly shocked me is that they look nothing like us, yes the updated characters might fit them but still. Plus, the kid looks like that girl at south farm, which also surprised me. In short all of those characters don’t look like what I imagined and i suppose they’re neither what you thought!

I personally love the new characters, I see so much possibilities opened up with the concepts 😊 I didn't really like the old ones since they didn't feel open for future options, didn't see much space for them to turn into something in the future. Only Sabine is the one for me that I dislike, I liked the extreme crazy competition thirsty fancy evil girl she was, now she has armhair and looks like a motorbike girl... 😕 I am sorry you dislike it, I understand your point. I understand, as I quit the fandom as well when I saw what they did to the only part which let me some hope. I will probably play the story once a year, it's not like if they released quests after all. But I don't know how to make my character in a so inconsistent lore.
I am so fed up with SSO at this point, it's clear they really dont care to respect the original story and characters that created their main source of income to begin with. It feels like that magic is gone and all that's left is some digital horses to buy and hollow characters that we don't really develop connections with. This format of a rotating story team does not work here because there's already an established backstory, a rewrite of that backstory, and now yet another rewrite... I don't understand why they didn't simply remaster their old assets and further the already developed plot laid out before them from the old team... I replayed the old Starshine Legacy games recently and thought it'd be amazing to see those polished up and rereleased. They had something incredible going for them, and they still do, but there's too many cooks in the kitchen and they're spoiling the damn soup. I'ma bout to make my own remastered designs for Lisa, Linda, Anne and Alex... probably will do Sabine, Jessica, Katja and a concept of Elise too...

it’s so upsetting to watch star stable fall like this. they’re taking away everything that was good with the game, everything that kept the ogs playing.
It seems to me they are forgetting about their og players (SL days) to get new players in. I never played SL before but have watched videos about it and like the original storyline so this is very confusing to me, like changing the characters to the point where most are unrecognizable and changing their names and horses is just like what the...? to me. Honestly don't mind being more inclusive it just adds more to the confusion for me.
It seems like all the things that are updated are done by different people who never talk to each other and everyone puts their own spin on everything with no regard to continuity.
I'm so sad about them constantly changing all the characters that i've loved for years. It's like watching a really cool movie, and every few years they rewrite parts of that movie and ''update'' it. So when you rewatch it, all the memories you've made with the characters seems like a lie, it never really happened. When a sequel comes along, they've replaced all the main characters with different looking actors and a whole new personality. I don't think I can keep up with them anymore, and i'm just really not invested in the story anymore which makes me so disappointed :(
I've been playing for years and I was basically raised on sso. Seeing the game of my childhood just slipping is breaking my heart. I know things change, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. But the community is like another family to me, to alot of us. Maybe by next year it will all be like a forgotten memory to us. Maybe we will all move on to new things. But this game has been built on communities and if they keep shutting us out, there won't be anything left to build on.💔😢

And yes I do agree that the people making the deigns are doing great. But the people making the decision are not doing very well. And I will still play sso but that does not mean other people have to!

Hello ! I'm here to give my personal opinion 'cause I think it is interesting having both POVs. I'm not here to sew Eleanor or anyone against Star Stable decisions but just to give people a different aspect of this sort of debate. I'd like to start with the forth dark rider which represents discord. Knowing that, I think that Star Stable wanted to make her look like a mischievous kid 'cause that's appealing when you think about discord, at least in my point of vue. I also think they maybe wanted to put variety in their character, whether it be in the color of the skin, the range of age or the personality so we can refer to them even if they are supposed to be evil. For her name (I did no research so this might be false) Star Stable tries to give it significance without it being too funky. Maybe they wanted the name to correspond better with the appearance so they changed it. Now turning to the books. I agree with the fact that it is annoying that the books are not totally canon but, from what i read (book 1), the dark riders aren't always here so technically, apart from where there aren't dark rider's back story or physical description, the books are still canon. To finish with, I'd like to talk about change in general. I think that you can't wright a perfect story first try. Star Stable is now a game online so if they try to twist the story or its characters it will be noticed especially when the game is old. It's hard to keep the same story all along, especially that, if you don't like the characters, it's hard to continue it. When you create your own story in your head for example, you almost always bring modifications to the characters and the main story. Star Stable should have planned that, but i suppose that in a game that is 10 years old there must be modifications at some point. I think that your arguments were really good and that Star Stable should pay more attention to their community even if it isn't always easy to see people criticizing your work. I hope that, if you read my commentary, it didn't offend you and that you will maybe one day play Star Stable with a smile again !
Your channel was the biggest reason I sticked around for as long as I did. I LOVED your theory videos, and I LOVED the mystery and creepy nature of the old starstable. I do like new desings but since they make no sense it is very dissapointing. But not that it matters to me personally. I have quit a loooong time ago already.
I’ve officially decided that none of the things that happen in the SSO main story is canon. As you said in this video, things keep changing, then they don’t even align anymore and all in all, nothing makes any sense. Great job SSO. You’ve done it again. The last thing I excused, is the changing of Lisa from a punk, tomboy, racer, to a country western girl. I can’t excuse THIS though. All of those new dark riders (Except Katja her design is really cool) are not what I expected or would have wanted at all. #notmydarkriders

This looks NOTHING like the dark riders I'm used to- And the fact that one of them is a literal child?- To go along with that- She has a toy horse- Its like SSO just slapped the dark riders together, in the way THEY thought was fit. I might not do the Maine quests anymore in star stable I’ve read all the books and LOVED them and I have also played star shine legacy and why does sso what to change the story!? That has been going on for so long why change it all the sudden first it was the soul riders then Sabine and now the dark riders!?! It just doesn’t make sense anymore I’m still gonna play for clubs but no longer the quests...
Jesus Christ Starstable this is awful. I lost faith in this game with Pixeltails was bought out in 2015... Everything just keeps getting worse and worse. Been playing this game sense 2012 and its so sad to see its decline.
It's so sad that whenever you tell your honest opinion and use constructive criticism some players still come at you that you are racist and you should be thankful... I'm disappointed in most of the players too.
I've always liked Jessica and Sabine's original designs. The new ones? I'm just - who are they?? They are NOT Jessica and Sabine! D: Katja isn't terrible, but we've yet to properly meet her in SSO (we've seen her, briefly) so I don't have much of an opinion there. And then there's Elise.. no, wait, Nihili.. wait no, Chiyo??? In my fanfic, I involve Jessica and Sabine a bit more than we interact with them in SSO (or have been so far, at least). I really like their original designs and will stick to them for the future. I've also started playing with the idea of having Elise/Nihili there, albeit currently unnamed/unidentified. If I do reveal her at some point (other than in ghost/spirit form), she will most certainly NOT be that anime birthday child with a stick horse. I love anime, but I don't love Chiyo. She looks like a crossing between Mamon and Stormy Weather, both from Miraculous Ladybug. As for their horses, I don't hate Khaan. What I don't like about him is that he's now a Jorvik Friesian. Just like the Starbreeds of the Soul Riders, the dark horses used to be unique and now Khaan is a horse we can all get in the game :( Minus the red eyes... Katja's horse is an Akhal-Teke (though thankfully not a colour we have, making it a little more unique), I think, and Jessica/Jay's horse looks like it's taken out of a Barbie movie. And of course, Chiyo's past name is now the name of her horse and it's no longer a horse at all - it's a toy. Hooray.
Honestly, I've lost all motivation to play recently. The one thing I enjoyed the most in this game was the story but now they've just screwed the whole thing up. And it's not like there's anything else interesting to do in this game. I'm really upset because I've spent thousands of dollars on this game and now it feels like it's all gone to waste.
honestly i really wish sso would just bring back the old story completely. the path they are trying to take to “improve” the game is completely failing. i wouldn’t even mind if they brought back the old characters and models/graphics if it meant they would continue the route they originally were going down. those characters and that story is so much better than the new one and not to mention the nostalgia attached to them that i’m sure a lot of players would enjoy. they do great on a lot of new things when it comes to gen 3 horses for example but everything else is mediocre. in my opinion the new graphics especially for the npc models look sort of off. i feel, in my opinion, that they look bland and flat and boring. they don’t have any life to them. it kind of reminds me of the switch that EA did from sims 3 to sims 4. while yes the graphics and gameplay is in theory much more advanced in reality it makes it boring to play. the old game of sso had so much more life to it and you felt like you were actually immersed in the world now it feels empty. if i could wish anything in sso it would be to bring everything old back, the graphics, the characters, the story, and just continue making the new horses in the gen 3 way. they don’t completely stand out and it still looks fine together. ps: i would also like to clarify when i say old graphics i mean the world graphics from right before they began updating them. i believe that was around 2017.

It's completely true. Maybe SSO thinks their players or kids in general aren't careful enough to notice during very long time that neglect in their updates aren't rareness or that people just will accept it.
Its sooo disappointing. The designs are nice... ok. But they are not at all recognisable anymore :( I played Starshine legacy as a child, and I loved the unique, mysterious atmosphere of the game. I'd love to play the game as the modernised version of the SSL, but it slowly transforming into something completely different. It's not a bad thing, that they change, renew things, but I feel almost no connection to the roots at all, which is a strange feeling.
I had no idea what characters I was even looking at and I have been playing the game since 2012.

Basically to put it simple; i don't like how they changed the original lore and created something that looks like an absolute hogwash while at the same time not knowing how to properly write and connect the story together.

Honestly, I'm treating sso online as an alternate timeline. The dark riders, minus Katja are pulled into a more modern time and have changed from their original looks--they needed to fit into a modern society to go undetected (I'll stick with this theory). I need to see how these four act in game. They look odd together, but I'm hoping they have a some group chemistry.

And here I was just starting to come to terms with Sabine and her new design. Then these designs comes along, especially seeing this Chiyo-girl and I’m left not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
The problem is, sso can't seem to decide whether they want to be a sequel to SL or if they want this to be new. They keep certain things, like the Soul Riders, Garnok, Mr. Sands, and even the og Dark Riders. Only, they want to also change things about these already made characters. I'm giving them a chance. Maybe there is a story-reason to do what they did to the Dark Riders, idk. I like the designs, it just doesn't fit with the Dark Riders they had already. I'm giving them a chance, but there are so many ways to mess this up, so we'll see

I don't see how SSO couldn't have made the dark riders (the characters that have been here since the beginning) more alive and detailed instead of... creating NEW characters to replace the original ones. Whether they are doing it on purpose or not, I feel like sso is recreating itself into a whole new game. I wouldn't be surprised if old storylinequests are going to get changed too. Which already happened with the 'saving Lisa quest' for example. I replayed it on a alt. account and it wasn't exactly as I remembered also less epic, so glad I played the older version. Anyways I feel like sso is throwing away all the old things that appealed to us older players and kinda chasing us away. Like they just want their old players gone to start with a whole new generation. Now this is a big assumption and a exaggerated feeling but I just want to share how I feel which is not neccessarily the truth. If they were updating the old stuff their would still be similairities and still a stable storylinequest but it's not anymore. Yeah now even in the books Jessica should be called Jay, they will probably leave it as it, otherwise Helena would have to rewrite all those books.

What the hell were they thinking? I was thinking already that I remembered something wrong but I'm now pretty sure that Nihili was supposed to be the dark rider herself. They don't even know who's name belongs to who anymore. Which means they don't even know their STORIES. Katja tbh still looks the most like herself to me. The others look like freaking adults and a little kid while she looks actually like a teenager who's in school, which they're supposed to be. Honestly when I first saw that kid I thought that that was Maddison who somehow got into trouble with the dark riders, with her story it would've actually suited to happen too. But what was that kid? A freaking dark rider. What the hell is wrong with SSO to think that this makes sense? If they wanted a child in their new graphic then freaking make a good job on giving Maddison an update!
Personally I'm only logging in for cats or free stuff. Otherwise I've nothing to do. For clubs I don't have enough time and otherwise there is nothing to do that's actually fun. Sso has been not really caring about the story and has made gameplay SECONDARY! They are putting making the game pretty instead of the story.

SSO... then, why aren't they making a NEW game instead of messing with 10 years of engagement and excitement from a big player base. So true. I don't even think they try to make game good for themself, it seems SSO try to be inclusive only to be more buy-able. They don't care for quality of the game. If they do, then they will be careful to make changes smooth and reasonable and to create the good product in general. But for now I see they only care to make SSO expensive, "modern" and bright. Visual updates shouldn't take such a long time when their community is starving for big updates such as long quests, new mechanics and bugfix or anything else.

I'm a new player to sso, I just started this year because the plot seemed very interesting to me and I hope to find another game with deep lore I could sink into and make theories for. I never got attached to the old cast's looks and peronalities and to be honest I REALY REALY like the new designes and wouldn't want to see them replaced. But the story not making seanse does piss me off a lot, especially the way they treated the books. SSO writing team really need to sit down and figure everything out for the story.

I think the main problem is, is that if you're going to reboot a character, you need to make sure they are recognizable to your audience. Even race bending the characters is fine, as long as their personality, sense of style, age, etc. are recognizable.
For example, Sabine would be fine if she was a teenager and dressed in a riding jacket rather then a vest, which tie into the story of her and Jessica attending high school with the soul riders and Sabine being a foil to Anne, being a fellow dressage rider.
Jessica should at least have her iconic ponytail, and be dressed more like a model and less like an anime prep guy.
Katija is fine as is, if anything making her look like this retained her personality of mystery and creepy.
About the new rider, they should have at least kept her name. All we had of the character for so long was her name, and she was played up so much that giving her this design, however good alone, was disappointing in context. I agree that that would have been better as an updated model for Madison, as it fits her personality.
Overall, its alot of good work, but it's incredibly important if you reboot a character to retain recognition of the character to hold your audience. If they are so different they break the story (Sabine being older then previously stated in game) or they are unrecognizable in any way (Jessica losing both her known style AND being renamed AFTER using her old name in the NEW book series.), then you have a problem. I hope SSO sees the players reactions now, and makes changes to at least fix or explain these changes.

From the state of sso today when we get the new characters they will most likely not change the quests. What will the new players think when at an elegant stable there will be a fortnite character who lookes like they will beat up anyone who even looks at them.

They're completely leaving the original story behind, and i dont like that because the original story was the one thousands of people fell in love with! And a child as a dark rider...?? There are two most mind blowing facts - first with the Chiyo which I at first thought was just a mistake. I mean with her. And with her look, which basically doesn't suit in the Dark Riders concept. The second mind blowing fact is switched looks between Jessica and Sabine, which is basically the biggest WTF. Especially for me as a player who grew up on Star shine legacy and star stable riders (SSL came out at 2005. At year when I celebrated 9th birthday, so I sticked around this story for 15 year now) and knows everything about the original story. As for Katja... yeah it's still bigger change from the original, but it's not that bad. At least when you compare her to the rest of Dark Riders.
As for the story... I hardly can compare SSL story and SSO story. Yeah, sso should take place 2 years after SSL. And yeah, it's nice the story is extended and deepend. But at some points I have feeling that the job extending the original plot isn't done well. As for the books - I found one certain point in them, where it is clearly contradictory with SSO (unfortunately I can't remember what it was), not to mention SSL.
To sum it up - I guess I will stick to the game, but I am slowly loosing faith for getting any goof thing which is anyhow related to the story. 🤷♀️😥

If this was a game without any history, without any characters to build from and without a purpose then what SSO has done these past few years would be a nice (not great, the care and quality is just not there) game. But since this is the game a lot of us grew up playing, that already has an interesting backstory, characters (with development) and a goal for the story it is sad and humiliating to see the game transform into this mess. With characters they try to infuse with depth and personality but just end up feeling hollow and without a real purpose in the story, a world were nothing makes sense because they're constantly changing things and butchering the original story instead of building from it. It just feels like there's nothing left of the old game. I can only play it with joy if I ignore where it comes from, if for every confusing update I trick myself into believing that it was meant to be this way and keeping the old game locked away in my heart like other things lost from childhood.

I also started playing just for the story!! I really loved the original old story it had something mysterious and that old nostalogic music had something mysterious as well.. now it's just a childfriendly story who has changed to much.

But basically, when you glitch into Ashland there's an abondoned cottage right nixt to the volcano, Garnok's Fury. The Kalter's from Fripp's book live near Garnoks Fury. And the cottage looks abandoned.
What is that Cottage is the Kalters?

8 months after this was posted, and new story quests hav come out, I am now depressed because SSO's lore and story was what I lived for and now I am broke too because I thought buying horses would make me feel respected.
I was disappointed when I saw the new dark riders, straying away from their canon profiles and design. But I’m especially angered by angered by Chiyo’s character design. I’m sorry why is there a child dressed in tacky clothes as a dark rider? What is happening!
This game is going downhill, new players don’t understand the fuss so they are very supportive of SSO’s decisions.

The thing that mostly shocked me is that they look nothing like us, yes the updated characters might fit them but still. Plus, the kid looks like that girl at south farm, which also surprised me. I personally love the new characters, I see so much possibilities opened up with the concepts 😊 I didn't really like the old ones since they didn't feel open for future options, didn't see much space for them to turn into something in the future. Only Sabine is the one for me that I dislike, I liked the extreme crazy competition thirsty fancy evil girl she was, now she has armhair and looks like a motorbike girl... 😕 I am sorry you dislike it, I understand your point. I hope your new content will bring you back the fun!
I understand, as I quit the fandom as well when I saw what they did to the only part which let me some hope. I will probably play the story once a year, it's not like if they released quests after all. But I don't know how to make my character in a so inconsistent lore.
These characters are pathetic. I’ve read two books and I played the lore with pleasure. Now there’s no point in continuing.
I am so fed up with SSO at this point, it's clear they really dont care to respect the original story and characters that created their main source of income to begin with. It feels like that magic is gone and all that's left is some digital horses to buy and hollow characters that we don't really develop connections with. This format of a rotating story team does not work here because there's already an established backstory, a rewrite of that backstory, and now yet another rewrite... I don't understand why they didn't simply remaster their old assets and further the already developed plot laid out before them from the old team... I replayed the old Starshine Legacy games recently and thought it'd be amazing to see those polished up and rereleased. They had something incredible going for them, and they still do, but there's too many cooks in the kitchen and they're spoiling the damn soup. I'ma bout to make my own remastered designs for Lisa, Linda, Anne and Alex... probably will do Sabine, Jessica, Katja and a concept of Elise too...

It seems to me they are forgetting about their og players (SL days) to get new players in. I never played SL before but have watched videos about it and like the original storyline so this is very confusing to me, like changing the characters to the point where most are unrecognizable and changing their names and horses is just like what the...? to me. Honestly don't mind being more inclusive it just adds more to the confusion for me.

It seems like all the things that are updated are done by different people who never talk to each other and everyone puts their own spin on everything with no regard to continuity.
I'm so sad about them constantly changing all the characters that i've loved for years. It's like watching a really cool movie, and every few years they rewrite parts of that movie and ''update'' it. So when you rewatch it, all the memories you've made with the characters seems like a lie, it never really happened. When a sequel comes along, they've replaced all the main characters with different looking actors and a whole new personality. I don't think I can keep up with them anymore, and i'm just really not invested in the story anymore which makes me so disappointed :(
I've been playing for years and I was basically raised on sso. Seeing the game of my childhood just slipping is breaking my heart. I know things change, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. But the community is like another family to me, to alot of us. Maybe by next year it will all be like a forgotten memory to us. Maybe we will all move on to new things. But this game has been built on communities and if they keep shutting us out, there won't be anything left to build on.💔😢

And yes I do agree that the people making the deigns are doing great. But the people making the decision are not doing very well. And I will still play sso but that does not mean other people have to!

I'm here to give my personal opinion 'cause I think it is interesting having both POVs. I'm not here to sew Eleanor or anyone against Star Stable decisions but just to give people a different aspect of this sort of debate.
I'd like to start with the forth dark rider which represents discord. Knowing that, I think that Star Stable wanted to make her look like a mischievous kid 'cause that's appealing when you think about discord, at least in my point of vue. I also think they maybe wanted to put variety in their character, whether it be in the color of the skin, the range of age or the personality so we can refer to them even if they are supposed to be evil.
For her name (I did no research so this might be false) Star Stable tries to give it significance without it being too funky. Maybe they wanted the name to correspond better with the appearance so they changed it.
Now turning to the books. I agree with the fact that it is annoying that the books are not totally canon but, from what i read (book 1), the dark riders aren't always here so technically, apart from where there aren't dark rider's back story or physical description, the books are still canon.
To finish with, I'd like to talk about change in general. I think that you can't wright a perfect story first try. Star Stable is now a game online so if they try to twist the story or its characters it will be noticed especially when the game is old. It's hard to keep the same story all along, especially that, if you don't like the characters, it's hard to continue it. When you create your own story in your head for example, you almost always bring modifications to the characters and the main story. Star Stable should have planned that, but i suppose that in a game that is 10 years old there must be modifications at some point.
I think that your arguments were really good and that Star Stable should pay more attention to their community even if it isn't always easy to see people criticizing your work.
I hope that, if you read my commentary, it didn't offend you and that you will maybe one day play Star Stable with a smile again !
Your channel was the biggest reason I sticked around for as long as I did. I LOVED your theory videos, and I LOVED the mystery and creepy nature of the old starstable. I do like new desings but since they make no sense it is very dissapointing. But not that it matters to me personally. I have quit a loooong time ago already.
I’ve officially decided that none of the things that happen in the SSO main story is canon. As you said in this video, things keep changing, then they don’t even align anymore and all in all, nothing makes any sense. Great job SSO. You’ve done it again. The last thing I excused, is the changing of Lisa from a punk, tomboy, racer, to a country western girl. I can’t excuse THIS though. All of those new dark riders (Except Katja her design is really cool) are not what I expected or would have wanted at all.

It's honestly upsetting that they didn't follow the same names, etc.. of the dark riders. It feels like I'm gonna have to learn about these characters all over again.

I might not do the Maine quests anymore in star stable I’ve read all the books and LOVED them and I have also played star shine legacy and why does sso what to change the story!? That has been going on for so long why change it all the sudden first it was the soul riders then Sabine and now the dark riders!?! It just doesn’t make sense anymore I’m still gonna play for clubs but no longer the quests...

I lost faith in this game with Pixeltails was bought out in 2015... Everything just keeps getting worse and worse. Been playing this game sense 2012 and its so sad to see its decline.
It's so sad that whenever you tell your honest opinion and use constructive criticism some players still come at you that you are racist and you should be thankful... I'm disappointed in most of the players too.
I've always liked Jessica and Sabine's original designs. The new ones? I'm just - who are they?? They are NOT Jessica and Sabine! D: Katja isn't terrible, but we've yet to properly meet her in SSO (we've seen her, briefly) so I don't have much of an opinion there. And then there's Elise.. no, wait, Nihili.. wait no, Chiyo???
In my fanfic, I involve Jessica and Sabine a bit more than we interact with them in SSO (or have been so far, at least). I really like their original designs and will stick to them for the future. I've also started playing with the idea of having Elise/Nihili there, albeit currently unnamed/unidentified. If I do reveal her at some point (other than in ghost/spirit form), she will most certainly NOT be that anime birthday child with a stick horse.
I love anime, but I don't love Chiyo. She looks like a crossing between Mamon and Stormy Weather, both from Miraculous Ladybug.
As for their horses, I don't hate Khaan. What I don't like about him is that he's now a Jorvik Friesian. Just like the Starbreeds of the Soul Riders, the dark horses used to be unique and now Khaan is a horse we can all get in the game :( Minus the red eyes... Katja's horse is an Akhal-Teke (though thankfully not a colour we have, making it a little more unique), I think, and Jessica/Jay's horse looks like it's taken out of a Barbie movie. And of course, Chiyo's past name is now the name of her horse and it's no longer a horse at all - it's a toy. Hooray.
Honestly, I've lost all motivation to play recently. The one thing I enjoyed the most in this game was the story but now they've just screwed the whole thing up. And it's not like there's anything else interesting to do in this game. I'm really upset because I've spent thousands of dollars on this game and now it feels like it's all gone to waste.

honestly i really wish sso would just bring back the old story completely. the path they are trying to take to “improve” the game is completely failing. i wouldn’t even mind if they brought back the old characters and models/graphics if it meant they would continue the route they originally were going down. those characters and that story is so much better than the new one and not to mention the nostalgia attached to them that i’m sure a lot of players would enjoy. they do great on a lot of new things when it comes to gen 3 horses for example but everything else is mediocre. in my opinion the new graphics especially for the npc models look sort of off. i feel, in my opinion, that they look bland and flat and boring. they don’t have any life to them. it kind of reminds me of the switch that EA did from sims 3 to sims 4. while yes the graphics and gameplay is in theory much more advanced in reality it makes it boring to play. the old game of sso had so much more life to it and you felt like you were actually immersed in the world now it feels empty. if i could wish anything in sso it would be to bring everything old back, the graphics, the characters, the story, and just continue making the new horses in the gen 3 way. they don’t completely stand out and it still looks fine together.
ps: i would also like to clarify when i say old graphics i mean the world graphics from right before they began updating them. i believe that was around 2017.
