I agree. You should get a 2 character box. Recommend Barbarian vs Moon Elf. And when you realise that it is the game that comes the most to your table (our 5 player gaming group has been playing this EVERY WEEKEND FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS and the replayability is just INSANE) you go and back it. You can always put in a £1 on the KS and get two characters first.
Dice throne looks complicated when its explained or shown but once you sit down with all the components and everything set up, well, the game is really not all that complex its honestly really intuitive and the FAQ on each of the character pamphlets is really clear
“Hey, here’s a video to talk you out of backing this game” *9 minutes of convincing me to buy it later* “Okay, for real this time… but wait… do you like Marvel, and fun games..?”
I didn't know I needed to see this video! Thank you for saying what I needed to hear. I have unknowingly become obsessed with trying to find "the right game for me," and thus now have a small collection of a variety of different games that I've only played but a handful of times. And now for the first time I believe that I don't need to have everything produced for these games just so I have the full set.
I get that completely. I'm glad I could help :) It's really easy in this hobby, especially when you start to really really get into it, to feel like you need absolutely every game, but I'm realizing more and more as I do this, there will always been incredible games coming out and I really like most of the ones I own as well.
I have season 1, 2 and adventures. I love Dice Throne and it is my most played game I own. After looking at the Marvel characters, they do have enough differences in abilities compared to the other 16 characters. Loki and Dr. Strange are the two I look forward to the most. Having the big chest is well worth it in my opinion. I don’t like to imagine myself carrying 11 boxes (all the current and future retail boxes) versus 3 big ones haha! It stores well and looks great on a shelf. Easy to open and have all the options there in front of you verses fiddling around with more boxes. I will say playing a 3-player king of the hill style match was very enjoyable. Of course, who you are playing with also matters in that equation. Any more players may include too much down time. Every match I play feels like an epic battle with really big moments when luck is on your side and big abilities get resolved. And having cards and abilities to mitigate luck is great! I do agree that if someone has never played DT before, you are better off buying a 2-character pack in retail to try out before committing to this campaign or different battle chest. I welcome these characters, season 3 characters down the road, and the potential of Marvel S2!
I have all current DT content as well and feel the same, but I am skipping this. I know this is compatible, but I don't like the idea of mixing and matching marvel vs non-marvel characters, and I don't want to collect two lines of DT. I'm happy with S1, S2, and the upcoming S3+. Plus I have all of Marvel Champions to scratch my Marvel itch.
I agree with you with everything. Gotta admit, I'm a hardcore Dice Throne fan!! DT (first edition back in 2017) was my very first KS ever and it's definitely the game I played most out of the 200+ games I own. I find it funny that people are trying to compare abilities and arguing about how different they are. The problem is that Season 2 brought SOOOO much revolutions with such unique characters like Cursed Pirate / Artificer / Huntress ... that people I think are expecting the "same level of revolution" each season now going forth??? Exactly like you said, I see very interesting new abilities and Loki / Strange are without a doubt the hero I wil be trying first. I LOVE this game... don't even know why I was that much curious to come and take a look a this video in the first place ... in the end ... it only confirmed how much I'm all in into this XD.
If I might have, I also like the idea of endless possibilities that the "thematic" of the game (which I might recall is that there is a Mad King bringing every best possible heroes from different space / time). You want to test the strength in a duel between Batman and Iron Man ... just wait for it ... it might happen at some time (or make yourself homebrew versions if you feel creative enough) You want that Superman Vs Goku matchup ?? Why not ... hehe
This was an instant back because the misses and I loved season 2. Marvel DT with the marvel property stripped away is pretty much season 3 mechanics wise.
Here’s another reason I thought of… If Marvel is what you are after there are 2 other skirmish games to consider: Unmatched is coming out with 4 Marvel expansions very soon, for a fraction of the price. 1) Redemption Row (Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight) 2) Hell’s Kitchen (Daredevil, Elektra, and Bullseye ) 3) Teen Spirit (Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, and Cloak & Dagger) 4) For King and Country (Black Widow, Black Panther, and Winter Soldier) Some even consider Unmatched to be a a superior system. You also have the Funkoverse Marvel edition, which is a fun/cute game where you roll dice and get to use special abilities. 1) (Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Black Panther) 2) expansion for Thanos
I was unfamiliar with Unmatched. Thanks for sharing it with us. Card based vs Yatzee based system of DT. That said it looks intriguing and got a thumbs up by SUSD.
@@cfosburg My first experience for a game from them will be when they deliver Return to Dark Tower. Looking forward to it. I never had the original Dark Tower but did play it at a friend's house.
@@sidneyleejohnson That was the first game I Kickstarted and started this...sickness...I'm really looking forward to it. Even still. The excitement I've had for it hasn't waned at all since backing it, and I use that as my standard for if I should back something. I do...not...always get it right but I'm getting better, lol
I already have season 1 rerolled and adventures.. I was going to get season two but instead I’m going to get Marvel now. Dice Throne is one of my top games. I love it. The art and components are amazing. All the players are so different but balanced. Easy to teach and easy to get to the table. Highly recommended
You should really give a thought about Cursed Pirate vs Artificier, probably the two most innovative and interesting charachters of season 2 for a little price (they are in the same small box) ;)
@@stefanopaolini1345 I would strongly recommend S2 its worth the cost! The only box im not over the moon with is the Samurai vs Gunslinger. While good characters I feel they compared to boxes 2/3/4 just don't hold up as well. Glad you love the game. Keep rollin dice!
I’m considering getting this because: 1. I’ve been looking for a good dice game and heard Dice Throne is a lot of fun. I was about to buy a set before this got announced. 2. I’ve been looking for more short 20-30 minute games because it’s hard to get the bigger games out during the week. 3. I like the Marvel characters and this has that. I considered buying a set to try, but then I’m in for another $30 and if I end up getting this Kickstarter after that I’ll have $130 in this game and I don’t like the thought of that either. I know it could potentially save me $100 but I’m pretty sure I’ll like the game. I probably could just get two existing sets and be fine but really want those pasted on Marvel characters. Also, first time watching a video. Alex at Boardgameco keeps mentioning your channel and I’ll say I enjoyed the video and have subscribed to see what else comes along.
I am very torn on two games right now This one as I have season 1 and 2 and adventures... thats enough right? right? Same with too many bones have all content up to the current kickstarter on one side thats enough ....... buttttt
Haha, I definitely feel this. I think for me, I try to look at expansions if they'll drastically either improve my experience or make me get the game to the table more. If they don't do either, and I end up playing it the same amount of time and the experience is the same, then that helps me stay away
5:25 I dont sleeve my cards, look I am not a monster lol. I just dont spill milk all over my components 😂. Another great video and good content to contemplate. Thanks again!
Looks pretty cool but happily there’s no FOMO on this one. It’ll be available at retail, there will almost certainly be a season 2 as well. I can wait.
Found Dice Throne in the fall of last year, got season 2 and had to wait for Season 1 Rerolled to be back in print. Love the game, huge hit with my wife, brother and friends. Staple now in my house, game hits the table more than any other game in the closet. I do agree with your point that it is a head to head game and if someone doesn't like going head to head, they probably should shy away. To add there is always a good deal of luck involved in the game. Decisions matter, but sometimes dice be dice. Super competitive friends can be tilted easily lol. Great game though, I do recommend. I'm always impressed with the game packing, in that it only takes a minute get set up and playing and a minute to clean it up. A huge perk.
I am a huge Dice throne fan, I have it all, and adding the new set also (for replay value) I host a regular game night and sometimes we have multiple games of DT going at the same time (we even had 4 at one time) To go over your points: 5) I completely agree with you, getting it just for the IP, shouldn't be a reason 4) I partly agree here, if someone is on the fence about DT, then here the IP can be the tipping factor. 3) Here I completely don't agree, I really don't like king of Tokyo, and Dice Throne is my #1 game, the main reason is that with Dice Throne, you have much more strategic choices, you can manipulate the dice, affect your opponent, it is much more engaging. 2) First approaching this I thought the same, but my wife HATES card dueling games, but she LOVES Dice Thone, I don't know what it is about it, but it works (at least for her) 1) I completely agree that if someone never played Dice Throne going straight to 8 characters maybe not the best investment, I would suggest trying the game on TTS, you have an official mod with 6 characters from S1 and S2, see if you like the system. If you like the system, 8 characters is a good rooster to start with. Hopefully this could help those who are on the fence.
Just ordered Barbarian vs Moon to test it out because I love Marvel, love dice games, love King of Tokyo (and loved Yahtzee when I was younger!). Love your points, you're like my inner voice "you don't need that many characters!" But I want them, it's Marvel!! 😆
I do like KoT but to me the experience of playing the two games is very different! In the base game of KoT, the heroes have different standees, but otherwise they don't really affect gameplay in any way. Contrast that with Dice Throne giving each hero unique dice, a unique hero board with 9 totally unique abilities they can go for, and a unique deck of over 30 cards that completely change how you would best play them. The game offers you numerous opportunities (both on your turn and on your opponent's turn) to make interesting decisions and to decide when to play cards to best improve your chance of winning. King of Tokyo is MOSTLY mindless fun, with a few interesting decisions sprinkled in. Sure, you can decide to stay in Tokyo and try to survive a barrage.. you can focus on one of the two different win conditions.. but overall it's extremely light party fare. DT is way more interesting and exciting.. and at the 2-player count there is no contest.
I backed because I've found the Marvel IP draws my in-laws in and is a good way to get them to try new games. Also I've been looking to get into the dice throne system so it felt like a good time to do it.
I love Dice Throne and I love Marvel. But the first two Dice Throne seasons already occupy a lot of shelf space and to be honest I do not NEED more characters. I will wait for the German retail version and then think again - but I know myself and chances are high that I will WANT all characters once I started with the new series... 🙈
It's going to be Nice to see the new kids playing with their amazing Dr. Strange.... Or Spiderman... and suddenly I will jump in with my good old Gunslinger and kick their behinds off!!
Speaking for myself, I had some birthday money to use this year and I bought my first box of dice throne, Barbarian vs moon Elf. Loved the game and ended up getting the rest of s1 because I loved the game. Do I need 8 more characters? Omg yes. Dice Throne is addictive, and the characters are like boobs: once you see one pair, you kinda wanna see the rest of them. 😂😂
Been loving your content, and that YuGiOh clip is sub worthy! Great video. I have Season 1, Season 2, and Dice Throne Adventures, and I do like Marvel, but I have no desire to be parted with $100 that could go towards TMB while gaining a 4th huge box. I'd rather have a Trove.............. I swear I normally have self-control; October has just been a really bad (or good, depending on how you look at it) month
Yeah so legit, there's so much great stuff out right now. Spoiler alert for the inevitable Resident Evil video, that's definitely a point. Good way of putting the other ones into perspective at least!
too late for me... Dice Throne is me and my wife's favorite game to play together. Marvel makes it easier to get others into it. It's just so easy to just pull out two trays and battle it out in 30 minutes or so (perfect for lazy boys). And if we want a more involved experience, Dice Throne Adventures is great. I got into it by trying it out on TTS, then we bought a damaged 2 character pack on Amazon copy for like $15 USD, we played it 8 times the first day then bought the two chests and adventures. It's definitely the game we've played more than any other. And everyone we've introduced to it is surprised at how fun/tense it can be. It's almost always the character that wins is one hit away from Death, and we've tied a couple times which feels really cool too.
Haha, I love to hear this sort of stuff, I'm glad it's such a hit :) I hope the Marvel characters house some of your favourites. Who are your favourites so far?
@@RoomandBoardReviews Shadow Thief is really interesting, and tricky, there's quite a few strategies with this one. Treant: for managing spirits/boons, really good for balancing recovery/damage Monk feels really adaptable to most situations, with how you can manipulate chi Gunslinger feels really fast and fun, One of the best starter Characters IMO Artificer is a good one, that gets better as the game progresses. Cursed Pirate is a fun high risk/reward play style. My Wife's favorites are Moon Elf for condition stacking/evasion, and Pyro for all out attack.
Good video. Luckily I’m in the camp who tried the game out (my LGS had the first season to rent), loved it, then went all in. And now I just need more dice throne. But it also helps that my wife loves Yahtzee so her enthusiasm for the game just made me want it more

Do you see your boardgame content creator side (get new the new and shiny games to do unboxing, playthrough and reviewes) conflicting with the more measured side of you?
Haha, ABSOlutely. There's that side of me that says "well hey, if you get it, you can justify it more now!" Because by the nature of these sorts of campaigns doing well, people will want content on them down the line, which makes sense. But I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get more and more review copies that I can have for a little while and pass on to get those thoughts/videos down. Or borrow etc. Luckily I'm not made of stone and will be buying a decent amount haha, but definitely. Honestly a helpful part of doing these videos is seeing how easily the reasons can come to mind, and see if they're applicable.
Great video! Was expecting you to bash on the game but more than half of this was reasons to buy it in my opinion 😅 honestly the reason I decided to take the plunge even though I own all of the other dice throne characters was that the mechanics of these new Marvel characters look really really cool. The idea of throwing Thors hammer and calling it back over and over, black widow dealing with upgrades in an interesting way, Doctor Strange’s spell mechanic, and most of what Loki has going on are all completely new to dice throne. I’m pretty neutral about the marvel theme but the variety here really got me excited :-)
Haha, I mean I have to give credit where it's due. The campaign feels so so well run. I'm glad the mechanics are speaking to you and I hope this is your favourite iteration yet :)
Seriously, though. I can understand all the reasons you lay out in this video, but as someone who has played a friend's copy of Dice Throne and absolutely loved it I was more than happy to back the Marvel version. Not only that, but some of the character mechanics I've seen are unique enough that they don't just look like reskins of S1/S2 characters. Now we'll see if I can wait until next June or if I get antsy and spring for one of the already released versions before then.
Loved the video. I appreciate the pov from a fellow Canadian. I've been on the fence about getting the battle chest since I saw the video from Rodney Smith, but ultimately...I just don't have any friends/family to play this with.
Haha, yeah my friends have 5 boxes of it, I was over at their house thinking, gee it's surprising they haven't come out with one yet. Probably because they keep coming out with expansions. I feel like that will never be done haha
Ive played S1 S2 and S3 (dice throne adventures(DTA) which I just got. The system is amazing imho. Playing head to head is fun. Playing a group is a blast. The PVE aspect of the game for DTA is well worth the cost. I backed this as soon as it dropped. each char plays different enough that yes I think youd want more to use in your games. Im very excited to see how they play with just each other then with the S1 and S2 characters as well! If you are like me there are even extra tokens on Board Game Geek that are for S1/2 which make the game look even better. Ive taken this to my LGS and gotten a ton of fun out of it and has certainly been worth the money!
Getting another charater box the battle chest. 1. Easier to store vs retail small boxes 2.reason of getting it is more variety of characters 3. They are do any world champions meaning they might do other movie ,tv shows, and video games champions and heroes and villains 4. I have 1 and 2 battle chests and if I get marvel one i can say i have have 4 groups of 6 player free for all battles depending how civil everyone is at choosing a character at the same time 5. Being cheesey here is cause I'm wanting to complete the infinity stones of having each and every charater. As they say in smash bros ultimate "everyone is here" I want everyone here available especially to show to new players who dont know anything of dice thone. who havent heard of it. 6. I hope the battle chest is retail later cause I cannot back the kickstarter atm cause I was kicked out of my family home in a family drama and had to move out so praying I can buy it later when I get a new job again. 7. Depending how well it sells they will keep adding more characters in the future usually that's how a business thinks. I hope they add another adventures box cause I want more bosses and more tiles.
Oh yeah, I don't see this being the last of dice throne at all. Hopefully they have some limited retail supply or I'm sure if you wait long enough it always pops up on the second hand market. I'm obsessive about checking the various 2nd markets for deals because my gaming appetite is absolutely bigger than my wallet. I feel that.
I decided to cancel my pledge because I found out I backed it now mainly for the game trays. The game was very interesting, but I decided to wait on it. I may not get the game trays after, but I am sure I can get something similar with buying insert trays. I whole heartily agree with Chris that game trays are the way to go and almost an instant back for me :3 Like Chris has talked and said, determineing what is drawing you the most is very helpful.
It IS a bit confusing on the main page, it seems like the gametrayz are only in the Kickstarter, and that was something I was going to specially highlight, but I think you get the gametrayz even if you buy a two pack, it should come with them. I think you won't be able to get the battle chest anywhere else, but the gametrayz look like standard issue for retail as well.
@@RoomandBoardReviews Gametrayz for each character are in every box, the KS version will have colored trays "ooooo" but yeah its a premium product regardless of whether you buy the chest or not, chests do get swirly dice tho...
@@RoomandBoardReviews More the reason to wait. The battle chest is very appealing to pull out the trays, but it's competing with other board games this month that have more exclusivity. I do agree that it is nice to see campaigns that provide the finished product with no stretch goals. Mythic Mischief for example won my heart. Unfortunately, the battle chest didn't win me over to have it now. Thank you for the video. Really helped solidified my decision
I’m not getting it because it’s Marvel… I played Dice Throne at a friends house, went to buy my own and it was 45 bucks for two heroes. This is double for 8. And compatible with the first game.
#2 I kinda get the point with King of Tokyo (which I like). But still, King of Tokyo is for me a fun game you mostly play with kids. Dice Throne is completely different! It's a brutal and nail biting 1v1 game And if you look at it this way: You buy 8 characters and suddenly you have a game you can enjoy with up to 7 other people! 2 players? 1v1. 4 players? 1v1 and 1v1, etc. So you kinda get a lot of material there while also being able to just play a fun 1v1 game with a friend/partner and play 4 matces with different characters
I agree with all your points Chris. I've played 4 player, don't lol. 3 player is kind of a fun tricky balance of not wanting to be in 1st or last. And yes, probably dont need 8 characters off the bat. . . . I bought 16 characters off the bat. Season 1 reroll and 2 . . . and Adventures. Forgive me, I was young and new to collecting less than 1 year ago. It's flashy, fun, easy to teach and set up. I definitely recommend it but keep in mind it's heavily luck based and the cards don't provide much depth or variation. This keeps it lighter, which is good for many players but characters can get repetitive and games can be blowouts. I suspect Treant and the Artificer may provide more options with their minions but haven't played them yet. Also I can see the co-op Adventures adding in some depth as you can combo with your teammate. The game has been a hit with my friends and family from ages 12 - 40. Even little kids will want to look at the character boards and quality, colorful components. Most people would be good with 4 characters to choose between, but yer gonna get that giant 8 set box.
Haha, yeah it feels like if you're going for 4, miiiight as well go for that 8. I'm glad it it's been a hit though. I feel like it's hard to find someone for whom it hasn't been.
That is strange... I played it with 4 and absolute loved it! what version did you play? we did free for all where you roll a dice to see who you hit. we accidentally all hit the same friend and blow him out of the water in two turns... so we let him join in with a new character. We played until only 1 person didn't die and declared her the winner. It was a absolute blast.
@@peterkruithof2255 more of a price point, like in for a penny in for a pound thinking, even though I think that's gotta be everyone's individual call. Depends on the deals you can get at your individual store.
@@peterkruithof2255 That's awesome! Sounds like a fun match. To give more context, 2 of the 4 players in my game were new and we were playing 2v2. I enjoyed a 3 player match when we were all familiar w the game, so I can see the potential for 4. With new players, there will always be more down time, no matter the game. But since actions depend on dice rolls, I find there is only so much strategizing I can do between turns.
When this was first announced the internal hype machine screamed out that this would be instaback, but then I thought about it more. I love Dice Throne, but I feel like I'm still just scratching the surface on the existing 16 characters. I also love Marvel, but for me I'll be passing on this. I play Marvel Champions for that fix. I also fear that this may be the end of traditional Dice Throne. I could see it being exclusively Marvel here on out and that just doesn't appeal to me. I enjoyed the theme of the DT universe they already had going.
Yeah legit. I don't know how long it takes to develop and test the additional characters but it seems like there will be a season 2 of Marvel at least before they return to the regular. But honestly, I buy them not returning to regular for a long time either. Might as well milk the IP and expose more people to it. I guess it all depends on how expensive the licensing fees are
I have both season 1 and season 2 and love the game. I’m not going to support this one because I know that they will come out with a second marvel season with captain America, iron man and/spider man. I love these characters but smart on them not to bring out the big guns!
I've been wanting to go see some stuff for a while but I seem to always be busy Tuesdays. Also just seems like a fun thing to have, I can commit to one movie a month. Getting out of my house once a month isn't too much pressure ;) haha
@@RoomandBoardReviews Its even better than that. The tickets carry over, so if you wind up being too busy one month, you'll have it available the next. So no pressure either way. But yeah definitely, go out there and treat yo self.
Many good points raised. I bet a whole lot of people backing this due to Marvel already have Marvel United. So...they're getting the same characters they already have in a different game, for more money, in several months...when they could buy regular Dice Throne with different and unique characters, for less money, right now. Just think about it, it's worse in every way!
I see it this way 5. It actually is a reason to buy it, I love Marvel 4. I would back Marvel Dice Throne BECAUSE Season 1 and 2 exist. And they are so good. So obviously, Marvel will be good. 3. Well, I don,.t like King of Tokyo and I looove Dice Throne, so... no, it's not a reason to not buy it 2. Well, I like them so it doesn't apply to me 1. Well, yeah.. you don'"t " need" Dice Throne either. "Need'" is way too strong word : 'need" is for drinking water, feeding, clothes, etc. do you want more characters ? yes, absolutely. Can't wait for a Season 3and 4. and 5... and so on
I was contemplating if i liked it after seeing it for the first time for like 8 hours. Didn't know anything about dice throne, tried a 1v1 match against my self on tabletop simulator, the barbarian vs the pyromancer. I thought to myself, this pyro dude is OP man, what could i possibly do? I shut down the game and backed that marvel dice throne like nobodies business. Surely the OP marvel dudes can beat this fire dude right!? ;) I am usually all against dice games. I play stuff like chess, gaia project, seven wonders duel. I REALLY enjoy 1v1 games that don't require any dice. Then i found backgammon and was intrigued. Now i am getting a dice game that is all about dice. Truth is, i enjoy heavy games, but not everyone does. This will win a couple hearts when introducing people to board games, which will soon enough want to play the heavy games. It's the long con guys (Azul is also amazing for this)! Great points, and i believe video's like yours are very necessary when you're in the heat of the moment, looking at how cool something could be, but not objectively at how cool it really is, after 3 times of playing, you need video's like yours to either assert your opinion or fold it. I did not find your video on time though, and i still stand behind my decision after finding it. I think i'll enjoy it, and glad i skipped something like orlog (which was also a campaign about dice that drew my attention because i've played the video game), because i think this will be more fun overall.
Haha, they've got to be able to beat that Pyro or they're KICKED out of the Avengers haha. I think that's exactly it, this is for sure going to be a really great gateway game for some people so we can ever so slowly get them into that sweet sweet Gaia project (I've only played terra mystica but really love that)
If you are into Marvel that much, get it! But it's just like... Well, this should sum up my reason not to lay my hands on this. For me it just isn't special enough, and I won't get it just because it is Marvel. By the way, big thanks again for this video (even it is just like -dual monsters- / the other videos), Chris!
Haha, I know there are so many campaigns happening, I've got some reviews and other stuff planned but I don't know if I'll be able to get to them if crowdfunding keep blowing it out of the water
Oh my sweet summer child. This is one of the worst booster packs ever made. This is the 4th big box. Everything will cost you $410 US delivered and if you think they aren't doing marvel season 2..
Just remember, Hermits have no peer pressure. I'm still conflicted over this because I have all things Dice Throne and I love Marvel but I'm not sure I really need that many options. However, I know that if I get that I will get more people to play DT with me especially my boys. #soconflicted. I have all things Marvel United - so do I really need this too? #probably I was really hoping this video would rid me of my desire to get this but I'm not sure it helped.... #sendreinforcements Wait! I can use my Marvel United painted minis in DT Adventures! NOOOO!!! #needtobestrong
I was interested for a hot second, then I looked at my Dice Throne season 1 & 2 boxes across the room and thought... I'm good...the original characters are more interesting then the same old Marvel heroes.
Yeah definitely agree here, my friends love it but it just doesn't sit that well with me. Partly why I used that as an example, I had heard such good things about Villainous and was pretty let down when I tried it, at least for my tastes.
@@RoomandBoardReviews thank you! I can't understand why people like the game let alone rave about it. Granted the theme is fantastic but it doesn't even qualify as multiplayer solitaire since everyone is playing different characters. And even as a solitaire game, every move you make is obvious so the "game" plays you. It blows my mind. Like I don't care for King of Tokyo. But when I play that game, I can tell it's a solid game and can understand why it might appeal to others. Even Monopoly has some player interaction. So crazy...
If someone needs a video like this to make a decision about backing a Kickstarter, then the answer should not only be "no, don't back it," but they probably shouldn't be trusted to handle any of their own finances. Nothing in this video comes off as anything other than someone who is angsty over successful game campaigns. Reasons not to back a project that have nothing to do with gatekeeping self righteous opinions? Oh, how about companies that are shady with their fulfillment? Or companies that routinely irritate backers with poor communication? Or companies that make a habit of fulfilling to backers AFTER they've released fully to retail? There are plenty of legitimately helpful and useful reasons to alert potential backers than this useless content.
Hey those are good reasons, feels like you must have watched my other ones to come up with them ;) too bad they don't really apply here, although I'm sure you'll be happy to tell me if they do! Which would I'm sure would be helpful for everyone. Not angsty at all, I'm actually pretty thrilled about so many games appealing to so many people. And also glad you don't feel the fomo, that's great! So don't worry, I'll still let you buy your toys, you've got the go ahead from me!
Watched the DT tournament on Foster the Meeple. Such a good game & remembered this KS. Felt the need to remind myself why Marvel Dice Throne wasn’t a good idea. Have S1 and DTA and get so much gameplay from DTA it’s the only way my gaming group plays. They’ve no interest in a 1v1 battle-er. I think it would be weird playing DTA with the Marvel set.
I am new to KS. So i can only put £1 inside and then later i can chose more?
Curious to see why barbarian va moon elf? I haven't played DT yet and I'm looking to buy a set
Dice throne looks complicated when its explained or shown but once you sit down with all the components and everything set up, well, the game is really not all that complex its honestly really intuitive and the FAQ on each of the character pamphlets is really clear
“Hey, here’s a video to talk you out of backing this game”
*9 minutes of convincing me to buy it later*
“Okay, for real this time… but wait… do you like Marvel, and fun games..?”
Haha I knowww, I gotta give props to the campaign though hahah
Awesome :) I mean, not for me, you're convincing me! Haha
@@RoomandBoardReviews Did I forget to mention, above all else, it's fun!
You want to test the strength in a duel between Batman and Iron Man ... just wait for it ... it might happen at some time (or make yourself homebrew versions if you feel creative enough)
You want that Superman Vs Goku matchup ?? Why not ... hehe
This was an instant back because the misses and I loved season 2. Marvel DT with the marvel property stripped away is pretty much season 3 mechanics wise.
Agreed! The new mechanics look really interesting! If these were just a re-skin of previous characters I definitely would not have been interested
Here’s another reason I thought of…
If Marvel is what you are after there are 2 other skirmish games to consider:
Unmatched is coming out with 4 Marvel expansions very soon, for a fraction of the price.
1) Redemption Row (Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight)
2) Hell’s Kitchen (Daredevil, Elektra, and Bullseye )
3) Teen Spirit (Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, and Cloak & Dagger)
4) For King and Country (Black Widow, Black Panther, and Winter Soldier)
Some even consider Unmatched to be a a superior system.
You also have the Funkoverse Marvel edition, which is a fun/cute game where you roll dice and get to use special abilities.
1) (Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Black Panther)
2) expansion for Thanos
Great alternatives for sure!
I was unfamiliar with Unmatched. Thanks for sharing it with us. Card based vs Yatzee based system of DT. That said it looks intriguing and got a thumbs up by SUSD.
@@sidneyleejohnson it’s from restoration games and has been pretty successful so far.
@@davidpitman1349 yes I have the entire S2 now :D
I’m considering getting this because:
Aw thanks for that. Yeah true, if you were planning to already it's definitely an alright time to jump in :)
Loved this! Great energy in your vids, thanks for the content! :)
I can wait.
5:18 OMG shots fired! How dare you, sir! Lol I just like mash shuffling and I can't stop now...
I am a huge Dice throne fan, I have it all, and adding the new set also (for replay value)
I host a regular game night and sometimes we have multiple games of DT going at the same time (we even had 4 at one time)
To go over your points:
5) I completely agree with you, getting it just for the IP, shouldn't be a reason
4) I partly agree here, if someone is on the fence about DT, then here the IP can be the tipping factor.
3) Here I completely don't agree, I really don't like king of Tokyo, and Dice Throne is my #1 game, the main reason is that with Dice Throne, you have much more strategic choices, you can manipulate the dice, affect your opponent, it is much more engaging.
2) First approaching this I thought the same, but my wife HATES card dueling games, but she LOVES Dice Thone, I don't know what it is about it, but it works (at least for her)
1) I completely agree that if someone never played Dice Throne going straight to 8 characters maybe not the best investment, I would suggest trying the game on TTS, you have an official mod with 6 characters from S1 and S2, see if you like the system.
If you like the system, 8 characters is a good rooster to start with.
Hopefully this could help those who are on the fence.
Awesome :) thanks for sharing your experience!
The marvel version is on tts as well now :)
Don't understand why people enjoy dice throne. Could you and a friend roll a d6 and see who rolls higher instead?
Just ordered Barbarian vs Moon to test it out because I love Marvel, love dice games, love King of Tokyo (and loved Yahtzee when I was younger!).
Love your points, you're like my inner voice "you don't need that many characters!" But I want them, it's Marvel!! 😆
Hahaha, well good news is if you love it they'll always be there XD
I don't like KoT but I love Dice Throne... already got S1, I think it works differently because of the head to head
Girlfriend loves King of Tokyo, its her fav game. Marvel is her fav IP. Stoked to play this when it arrives.
My personal reason #1. Look at everything else you are wanting to back right now. It's crazy out there
Spoiler alert for the inevitable Resident Evil 5 reasons, haha.
It's going to be Nice to see the new kids playing with their amazing Dr. Strange.... Or Spiderman... and suddenly I will jump in with my good old Gunslinger and kick their behinds off!!
Ahahah
Speaking for myself, I had some birthday money to use this year and I bought my first box of dice throne, Barbarian vs moon Elf. Loved the game and ended up getting the rest of s1 because I loved the game. Do I need 8 more characters? Omg yes. Dice Throne is addictive, and the characters are like boobs: once you see one pair, you kinda wanna see the rest of them. 😂😂
Hahah I'm dead.
16:00 I absolutely LOST it at the YuGiOh Abridged clip XD
rip your video for the song copyright strike
Worth it ;)
Been loving your content, and that YuGiOh clip is sub worthy!
@@RoomandBoardReviews
Shadow Thief is really interesting, and tricky, there's quite a few strategies with this one.
Treant: for managing spirits/boons, really good for balancing recovery/damage
Monk feels really adaptable to most situations, with how you can manipulate chi
Gunslinger feels really fast and fun, One of the best starter Characters IMO
Artificer is a good one, that gets better as the game progresses.
Cursed Pirate is a fun high risk/reward play style.
My Wife's favorites are Moon Elf for condition stacking/evasion, and Pyro for all out attack.
@@joshuag7027 Haha sooo half of them :D
That's great though, it's a testament to the characters all feeling so unique
@@RoomandBoardReviews Yeah I'd say we gravitate towards Season 1 characters more, but there's some solid choices in Season 2 as well.
Great thought provoking video. Thanks
Thanks!
I can definitely agree with one thing: triples is best.
I bought marvel dice throne cause I played it in a event and I loved it
Loved the video. I appreciate the pov from a fellow Canadian. I've been on the fence about getting the battle chest since I saw the video from Rodney Smith, but ultimately...I just don't have any friends/family to play this with.
I hate it when that happens. There have been a few where I'm like, oh that's so cool, but realize my groups wouldn't be down.
Oh Man, I am ready for a villainous big box!
Nice, love to hear you've been enjoying it :)
Barenaked Ladies..........I understood that reference (Canadian here and new subscriber).
Getting another charater box the battle chest.
1. Easier to store vs retail small boxes
2.reason of getting it is more variety of characters
3. They are do any world champions meaning they might do other movie ,tv shows, and video games champions and heroes and villains
4. I have 1 and 2 battle chests and if I get marvel one i can say i have have 4 groups of 6 player free for all battles depending how civil everyone is at choosing a character at the same time
Love the little kuriboh reference
@@BerserkXblade awesome, I'm glad to hear it was helpful!
Received it in June in Washington!
Awesome :) hope you love it!
I’m not getting it because it’s Marvel…
I played Dice Throne at a friends house, went to buy my own and it was 45 bucks for two heroes. This is double for 8. And compatible with the first game.
Yeah legit, if you know you're interested I think this is a pretty decent jumping in point.
#2 I kinda get the point with King of Tokyo (which I like).
But still, King of Tokyo is for me a fun game you mostly play with kids. Dice Throne is completely different! It's a brutal and nail biting 1v1 game
And if you look at it this way:
You buy 8 characters and suddenly you have a game you can enjoy with up to 7 other people! 2 players? 1v1.
@@RoomandBoardReviews why do you think 4 and 8 pll is the same??
I guess it all depends on how expensive the licensing fees are
Reason #0 might just be a taste and preference opinion related to Marvel character illustration.
Great use of the Duel Monsters comparison
The only reason for me is the shipping cost for Europe + vat/taxes ....
I have both season 1 and season 2 and love the game. I’m not going to support this one because I know that they will come out with a second marvel season with captain America, iron man and/spider man. I love these characters but smart on them not to bring out the big guns!
I was wrong! They came out with the X Men characters ❤
great value on that cine pass dealio. 100% would recommend.
Watching this video has made me want to play my copy of Marvel United.
Ok I’m not the only sleeve monster here. Phew.
I see it this way
5. It actually is a reason to buy it, I love Marvel
4. I would back Marvel Dice Throne BECAUSE Season 1 and 2 exist. And they are so good. So obviously, Marvel will be good.
3. Well, I don,.t like King of Tokyo and I looove Dice Throne, so... no, it's not a reason to not buy it
2. Well, I like them so it doesn't apply to me
Surely the OP marvel dudes can beat this fire dude right!? ;)
I am usually all against dice games.
I had 0 interest in this.
And then I saw Dr. Strange!!!
I am a sucker for him!
Same here
Interestingly I am a fan of Yahtzee and Dice Throne... but not King of Tokyo.
No Marvel theme games e no Dice Throne Season 1 or 2 in my collection. Insta buy for me
Thor's meow meow😂
Haha oh noooo is right for the marvel united minis crossover with adventures, I didn't even think of that #choochooherecomesthehypetrain
If I didn't have S1 and S2, I would definitely be in for this KS.
Love DT, love Marvel... But this would be too much. I cannot justify the cost...
I was interested for a hot second, then I looked at my Dice Throne season 1 & 2 boxes across the room and thought... I'm good...the original characters are more interesting then the same old Marvel heroes.
Definitely an instant skip for me, I'm probably in a club of my own. Instead somehow i've found my money lost in a Lords of Ragnarok.
Hey, Dice Throne exists to make you more justified in that Ragnarok purchase! Perfect!
Marvel Love Letter
To me the game looks like Yahtzee and MTG/Pokémon and other card games.
As a DC Fan it's an easy pass. :)
Villainous is a bad game.
So crazy...
Hating on something that he didn’t play yet lol what a clown 🤡
Hating on something you didn't watch yet, what a 🤡
If someone needs a video like this to make a decision about backing a Kickstarter, then the answer should not only be "no, don't back it," but they probably shouldn't be trusted to handle any of their own finances.
