I've been waiting to pull the trigger on Dice Throne for awhile now. There are so many I never knew where to start. I was completely unaware of this campaign until it launched and I immediately knew that this was a no-brainer. When I clicked on the KS trending page it was like the clouds had opened up and angels started singing. It was a sign... that my life would never be the same again. So I backed it.
i think the sweet spot for this campaign, assuming you already have some DT characters, is getting ONLY the missions. like DTA, the missions may not be available in B&M stores, meaning it may only be available on their website, which means it will be price-controlled. so the KS may be the best price you'll see for a while, if not ever. everything else is going to be available cheaper at retail.
I was excited to hear about missions but after looking at a gameplay preview I am very disappointed. It looks like it has almost zero replayability with very few ways to complete each mission. Once again like adventures it’s basically just “fight these small enemies in order and then fight the boss” and the actual game board will add nothing to the experience. It’s so sad because adventures sounds perfect but it’s such a flawed experience. It’s just worse to split the party so my group just all stays together and fights the enemies one at a time. Some of the enemies just deal so much damage too we end up hoping we roll healing on the loot table instead of the actual loot. The portal tiles don’t add any feeling of adventure all it does is “what random bullcrap effs you over this turn” just so disappointing
You actually did talk me out of Missions. That last argument of keeping co op for actual dedicated co op games 100% sold me, I enjoy my Marvel Dice Throne retail copy very much and it doesn't go to the table as much as I would like to it definitely wouldn't justify me to get it, might just get a better (cheaper, and now at retail) co op game right now. Thank you once more good sir.
I will preface this with how biased I am. I never heard of DT until the Santa V Krampus campaign. I loved the look of it so I went ALL IN on that campaign and got Season 1, Season 2, and DTA with it (as well as the painted minis). So I have 18 characters. I wasn't able to get Marvel during the SvK campaign and I was holding off on getting it. I'm glad I did because I went ALL IN on this campaign as well to get Marvel, X-Men, and Missions, as well as all the goodies. Couple little bits to comment on your video: 1) Yes, it's a 1v1 game at heart but that doesn't mean you have to play it that way. I brought it all over to a friend's place to introduce them to it. We did a 4-player Free For All. The group didn't really enjoy it. We then did a session of Dice Throne adventures and everyone LOVED it. Perhaps the issue your girlfriend has is the same a lot of people have - they don't like competitive games. I strongly suggest you get DTA and try that out (or Missions) as it makes the game much more enjoyable for everyone. 2) The Battlechests from KS are different than the ones from retail. You get KS exclusive dice which have swirls or something in them. As well, some of the tokens are 'fancier' (Like Thor's hammer is metal, which you can't get from the retail version. In the end, I've spent way too much money on Dice Throne stuff.... with no regrets! :)
As someone who does not care for games on kickstarter, these videos remind me that i’m not missing out on anything, while also keeping me informed. And by informed, i mean me on my high horse looking down on kickstarter plebs 😂
Scroll all the way down the page and you’ll see the retail plans. And it will be the same price to get all the characters less shipping. I’m waiting for retail outside missions
@@Mr47the well sure. What I mean is that Dice Throne does not really go to retail in Europe. It's always imported or localized version which take forever to be released. And if you do an expensive import from their website, you might as well do it now.
Yeah definitely consider where you are from, for me in the us it is available in several stores and easily accessible and frequently on sale. As well as the promo pack is typically a couple cards for each hero which is also available on the dice throne website which is easily available for me in the us. As for missions the same should be true in terms of it being available on their website and same with the promo pack but I am in fact getting missions here because it does bundle in the missions promo, it won’t be at normal retail, buying it from their site would also incur shipping so I feel like it is worth backing here. I also have every hero already out so I am not in a rush to get more heroes not put much care into it being in a battle chest which retail will not be in. Not trying to push anyone one way or another but wanted to point out their retail plans at the bottom for those of who it is relative to
Missions is actually SO fun. I love the feeling of playing dice throne but with a shared goal.. a challenge you get to work on and try your best on with others. Unlike some co-op games, there is still a LOT of personal decisions so that there is no single quarterback, and there are also lots of random elements that keep it fresh and un-solvable. For example, the positioning of the crisis clock at the beginning of the mission can REALLY influence which enemy group you go after first. As well, the specific heroes you have may affect your choices. If you hit very hard, you might take on a certain enemy on your own, or you might find that you do better teaming up for your hits. The board layout and the specific puzzle of each different mission really affects things too. Then, on top of that, there are additional difficulty levels you can play a mission on, so that it feels unique and interesting, even after you've leveled up your perk sheet. I find that all extremely fun and satisfying.
I appreciate you critiquing the offer to make this video. I've played this once and really liked the system but don't own anything. I didn't back the Marvel set but I am very excited about the X-Men set.
Chris, I think you brought up before, but I 100% agree DT is at its best as a 1v1. It captures the back and forth of two combatants perfectly that the other modes don’t quite match. Though I do like the incentive for extra draw during king of the hill modes. Nice way to dissuade going all in on one poor soul and in a way prevents the “why are you targeting me?!” that is common in these game modes.
Side note: You’ve got some beautiful eyes bro. So my girlfriend also does not like dice throne, which surprised me because she loves Yahtzee and Villainous, which these are kind of akin to. But my buddy and I do like Dice Throne 1v1; we still haven’t played Adventures because the setup seems cumbersome, so I am interested in missions since it looks much simpler to set up.
Hahah, thanks! It was good lighting :) Yeah missions does feel so much more appealing than adventures to me in the setup regard. That's a huge plus, actually getting the motivation to get it to the table
I actually play most with king of the hill with 4 people but i love that fact we can have fun with 4 people and 2 and even 1 with adventure.. its one of the main reasons i love this game so much
You got me with number 5. My gaming partner doesn’t really like battling with me. I have 2 two packs on the shelf for over a year and we’ve played each character one time.
Same. If it wasn't for gambit, I'd pass. I'd be getting missions mainly for solo, but it doesn't seem to scale well solo. I watched a playthrough. Because of the number of enemy dice, the results are more likely to be an extreme. Always trigger the bad stuff or almost never trigger the bad stuff. So I'll probably pass on that
Oh, I can smell your enthusiasm for this one from all the way over here, Chris! I only own Marvel Dice Throne battle chest, from the previous campaign, and tried almost all characters, except for Black Widow and Doctor Strange. My primary gaming partner, aka my girlfriend, usually prefers coop games, so Missions seems simple and fun to go through together. Having more character variety seems plausible in my case... So X-Men is also pretty tempting. Ugh, I do want the unnecessary Roxley bling, but that price, man. Currently I'm backing at the New Gameplay level with the sleeves ('cause they're freakin' cool), but I'm very much tempted to get the minis and tokens. For now, I'm satisfied at my level. Nice try, Chris!! xD
I don't really care about the X-Men pack, but I am compelled by the missions. You could also get missions plus Deadpool making it a solo Deadpool game.
I love dice throne but as you said I like it as a head to head and not sure I need 8 more so will probably wait till retail and grab one of the four packs. Probably the one with Iceman
RE reason number 2: I actually _prefer_ the 1v1 boxes! Much more compact and easy to store. The big boxes need a LOT of consecutive space that I had to really maneuver for
Thanks for your opinion! How about team play? I was hoping to buy the chests to play 2v2, but your argument that it's truly a 1v1 only makes me hesitate!! 😮 What say you about team play??
Just played a couple king of the hill games (1vs1vs1) and it felt great! We had tons of fun. I’ve played the 2vs2 and it can feel a tad slow, though granted I was playing with all new players that game night. I’d like to try it 3vs3 and get more 2vs2 experience, but definitely good at 2 and 3 players! There’s also the option of playing tournament style where you face of on two 1vs1s then winners fight and losers fight.
I love DT and honestly, the replayability is very good for the base game. The variance between characters is so interesting and I find it super fun to play not only 1v1, but 2v2 and FFA. It isn't always "fair" if you have a team picked just to beat your opponents, but 😅 I honestly love rolling for characters so that if there is someone newer playing you might have to try and figure out a new character as well. I will be backing, mostly to keep my set complete, but I absolutely believe what he says about retail being good enough and you can get into it with only one box. Heck, I started by finding one box for 50% off at Barnes and noble and I was hooked.
In France, Dt Adventure will be released in a French edition. We made a promise with my partner, for now on... no more DT characters , no Santa vs Krampus and no marvel heros ahah. At one point, this game is just using our "completion instinct" in wanting all the box. Let's give money and space for other games with other mecanics :)
I decided to be "responsible" for this one and found someone local to sell me all 8 marvel characters for $50 USD. Im going to play that for the next week or so to decide if i want to back. I really like the Xmen and if i back ill get the figures too. Good video as always and i watched your 8 reasons for the last dice throne yesterday.
Just thought you should know that there will be a difference with th retail version of the xmen characters and the xmen battle chest. Retail version will no longer include the tri fold boards that fit in the nice trays. So if you want it to match the rest of your dice throne characterss, best to back on KS and get the battle chest
I originally backed it based on the fact that I don't like how the marvel 4 character box fits awkwardly with all my other 2 character boxes. Now I'm glad I did make that choice bc tri fold boards are actually super important to me. I started playing DT when I won the original season 1 as a "play to win" game at a convention around the time s2 came out. Then rerolled came out, and I specifically bought them so everything could match. I didn't even realize this change was happening until I read your comment. Tho I imagine the xmen battle chest will still be available on the DT online store which I'm sure will have the trifold boards. All the other battle chests are on there after all.
@@SuperSmashBoiz yeah I think they only announced the decision in one of the updates, so most people didn't even realize! Im sure it will be available in the online store, but likely at a higher price and, depending on where you live, shipping can get high through the online store. So backing it on kickstarter seems like the best choice for those like us that care about tri fold boards to match the rest!
I'm still considering it but only in for $1 since they are waiving their typical standards for access to the PM. I have the Marvel Battle Chest and several of the season 1 and 2 2-packs. Honestly thinking about going all in on the Marvel ones and selling off my 2-packs, except for Santa vs Krampus, of course. I do not get to play as often as I want but greatly enjoy it when I can. I like that Missions can be played solo. I must admit that it did hurt my heart a big when you said you hadn't played the Artificer, as that is one of my favorite characters, even though I have yet to win with it. Your video is definitely making me consider how much I really need this game though, so it is greatly appreciated!
I backed it. Argh, you totally talked me into it Chris. 😂 I only have a couple DT characters so far and will buy a couple more before XMen DT arrives so I won't have too much :-) I did manage to not add on any extra stuff though, so good job with that. Don't need the sleeves or token upgrades or playmats as nice as they are. Thanks for the good video.
I’ve always been a big Gambit fan. I was really thinking of getting the X-Men version so I could have that character and try this game out since I’ve never played Dice Throne. You convinced me to just wait though and get the 2 pack when it comes out and try the game out that way. Thank you for once again saving me some money and realizing retail is a valid option for this one.
@@butswami I agree, but I’m not sure if this games for me since I’ve never played any version or it. I’ll probably just wait and get the character pack with Gambit to see how I like it before diving to deep into this series.
Have only S&K. The missions reminds me of Welcome to the Moon (simultaneous play, same maps subtle changes) but cooler and I think with 12+ missions there is potential for many hours packed in the box. Hoping the missions feel different from one another. So I’m probably in for Missions and X-men. Also, that metal Thor’s hammer is calling out to me from the first box set…
I have backed it. I wanted the characters, and liked the idea of playing them with my existing Marvel Dice thrones set. I agree; the missions seem more like an add-on. It adds variety though to a game those less enthusiastic about playing, aka the losers who can't beat me, will want to try or want to play.
I want it, because my kids loved the gameplay of Dice Throne, but hate any 1v1 PVP game. Being able to work together against a supervillain is exactly what we want.
I have Marvel and it's fun enough, but my main gaming partner doesn't like the head-to-head vs. nature of dice throne (even though she likes the Yahtzee part). This is kind of an auto-back for me because she loves X-Men and co-op, so obviously I need to get it all because this will mean the game tables a lot more at home.
You should consider Dice Throne Adventures as well. Co-op and it is a bit like a dungeon crawl. Pretty fun stuff. And you can use the Marvel and X-Men characters in it just as fine as any other DT hero.
Perfectly happy with marvel DT at retail. I’ve picked up 6 of the 8 characters by now all on sale and I’ve only spent $42 on the game at this point. Don’t have the felling of missing anything.
As someone who hasn't played DT but has always been intrigued, the missions sound cool. I wonder if the stretch goals will be in the retail box and if the missions will even go to retail. My friend who i used to play 1v1 games with tends to only want to play co-op games now (I'm not even a sore loser or gloating winner 🤐, i think some people just don't like playing a game for 20 minutes to an hour and lose. We cheat a tad on gloomhaven jaws of the lion😅). Maybe I'll pick up a 2 pack on the way home from work tomorrow and try the system out. I just want to avoid the complex characters so my wife might give it a try ;)
I believe it will only be sold on the dice throne site, like dice throne adventures. But given the popularity of Deadpool, it wouldn't surprise me if it hits retail
Aside from the fact that I love DT and have played all 26 characters... X-Men. I would probably chuck all the other DT stuff to get the X-Men ones if it came to that. I love X-Men. They got me, dead to rights on this one. I'm skeptical of Missions (I didn't like Adventures), but will give it a shot. Also, movie Cyclops kinda stinks. Comic Cyclops rules.
#5 was the most poignant as my PGP isn't a big fan of 1v1. My Marvel battlechest has sat gathering dust 😔 So congrats, you've caused me to reconsider! We'll see, i think she'll like Missions, and even if not I'll be able to play it solo and I obviously want more characters for that right? Right?? 😅 It helps that they're allowing $1 pledges, so gives me time to consider
I can’t believe you didn’t have this on your list: you already own a bunch of marvel stuff. I have dice throne season 1 and 2 and love it. But I also have all of marvel champions. It’s just redundant content for me.
Owning other characters is EXACTLY WHY you should back Missions. It's a whole new game than just Dice Throne. The problem I have here is that you're trying to say "just buy two characters, then buy more"...which costs you more than just buying the Battlechest. And comparing this game to Santorini is pretty foolish. Sure, you can skip the Xmen, but missions is what you should back. It's usable will all the characters you have already, even non-Marvel. It's a whole new way to play the game. It adds a lot of value to what you already own. I think that you don't see that, is exactly why no one should be listening to you.
I really appreciate this series... but, these videos don't seem to be working as intended. In spite of your efforts, I continue to spend to much money on games I don't need or that may never hit the table.
Barbarian: "I punch you!" Dark Phoenix: "I will destroy your entire solar system." #balanced Anyway, I got all the previous Marvel heroes piecemeal, for a combined $67 USD delivered, and honey, that's plenty. If I can get a similar deal on X-Men, then I might grab those too but I'm in no rush. Nothing I've seen about Missions makes it look like something I'm interested in, but if the reviews are glowing then maybe I'll look into it again next year; I'm sure it will be available. The only question mark is Deadpool: the KS page doesn't specifically say if it will be going to retail or not, so I might just pledge for that one. Can't miss out on that curmudgeon coin!
I love Dice Throne! And Marvel! And X-Men! Unfortunately my gaming group loves co-op games… they were kinda meh on head-2-head DT, but couldn’t get enough of DTAdventures, and now is the only version we play. So trying to pull the trigger but would think it so weird playing a DTA campaign with Marvel characters…
I've been waiting to pull the trigger on Dice Throne for awhile now. There are so many I never knew where to start.
They plan to release the X-Men in retail in 2 boxes. $49.99 USD for a 4 character box.
Definitely is, I'm glad I could help!
So just a heads up. Not trying to change your thinking. But retail will be 4 character boxes retailing around $50. Still half the price!
@@butswami I agree, but I’m not sure if this games for me since I’ve never played any version or it. I’ll probably just wait and get the character pack with Gambit to see how I like it before diving to deep into this series.
@@gord_the_rogue9012 makes perfect sense! I hope you enjoy it! Its one of my favorite games and i love seeing the game grow!!
You and my current bank balance, has conviced me.
I want it, because my kids loved the gameplay of Dice Throne, but hate any 1v1 PVP game. Being able to work together against a supervillain is exactly what we want.
Yeah definitely, sounds like a great back!
But what if I’ve been waiting for this one to get Dice Throne and so I don’t have any heroes yet? 😂
Wolverine looks boring and rogue doesnt even feel like rogue
so thats a pretty good reason to not care about the battlechest
I don't want to back this, but it's not very clear (to me) how Deadpool will be sold after the Kickstarter.
I believe it will only be sold on the dice throne site, like dice throne adventures. But given the popularity of Deadpool, it wouldn't surprise me if it hits retail
@@EM-pn5kqHe's kind of an odd one for retail, because he's only an expansion. And, he's all blinged out where the others aren't.
You talked me into it. Was not going to back it anyway.
I'm convinced, I couldn't care less of any superhero themed game :D
But I still listened and enjoyed your vid ;)
Easy: Out of spite for all the Marvel movies that suck!
That wasn't fair. The X-Men movies are all good... mostly.
I'll wait for retail. It's not an expensive game and I got the last core version with a discount a few months ago.
Sound its bit off.
Did the New gameplay w/ sleeves, I regret nothing lol
Shout out to the Room and Board sponsor, VITA COCO!
I only got Deadpool, because ofc I will get him :D
Aside from the fact that I love DT and have played all 26 characters... X-Men. I would probably chuck all the other DT stuff to get the X-Men ones if it came to that. I love X-Men. They got me, dead to rights on this one. I'm skeptical of Missions (I didn't like Adventures), but will give it a shot.
Also, movie Cyclops kinda stinks. Comic Cyclops rules.
#5 was the most poignant as my PGP isn't a big fan of 1v1. My Marvel battlechest has sat gathering dust 😔
So congrats, you've caused me to reconsider! We'll see, i think she'll like Missions, and even if not I'll be able to play it solo and I obviously want more characters for that right? Right?? 😅
It helps that they're allowing $1 pledges, so gives me time to consider
You're forgetting the Swirly Dice and the colored Trays 🤣
Fine, you convinced me. Now, do Witcher.
I can’t believe you didn’t have this on your list: you already own a bunch of marvel stuff.
I have dice throne season 1 and 2 and love it. But I also have all of marvel champions. It’s just redundant content for me.
Thanks I’ll buy it anyways
Also I think “I do not have a catchphrase” is your catchphrase
I missed this series of why you shouldnt back!
5 reasons you shouldn't back x-men Dice Throne... also made me back the game 😂
Hey that's great, I hope you love it :)
Luckily I've just never been interested in dice throne in any capacity
I don't have a consistent person to play Dice Throne with, so this will be a skip for me.
NOw The Witcher: Path of Destiny? :>
Incorrect. Marvel Battle chest with shipping - 135 CAD. Buying all 8 at my store, 120 CAD. Saving money with basic math = Priceless ;)
Too late to be saved 😢
I really appreciate this series... but, these videos don't seem to be working as intended. In spite of your efforts, I continue to spend to much money on games I don't need or that may never hit the table.
Barbarian: "I punch you!"
Dark Phoenix: "I will destroy your entire solar system." #balanced
Anyway, I got all the previous Marvel heroes piecemeal, for a combined $67 USD delivered, and honey, that's plenty.
Ahahaha yeah completely balanced!!
Manny trembley's favourite character is the Barbarian though so at least it has that going for him :)
