Good observation on the middle looking latches. I hope your right and they bring out half size boxes and some drawes as well. Ill have to wait for now and see becuase i was about to change over to packout
My other Ridgid boxes don't have those and to me, it looks a lot like how DeWalt just did there half organizers for the Toughsystem 2.0. My fingers are crossed. Drawers and half organizers would stop me from buying anymore Packout I think.
A big plus is that it has a top handle. The big problem with the large Milwaukee and flex boxes is that if you’re loading it from side handles is a back injury waiting to happen.
I bought one of these for my camping gear. I latched the clear top organizer on top filled with all the little things I regularly need to set up camp. It’s a very handy size.
I love to hear that other people use this for camping. I initially bought it for my side by side and I also thought that this would be the perfect box for camping. However, I sold my side by side and I sold my camper so now it just has a bunch of drywall stuff in it. I like the rigid boxes the best out of all the manufacturers for non-tool related stuff.
I use mine for camping tools such as mallet, stakes, hatchet, inflators, extension cord, power strip, firestarters, tent broom & dustpan, and a few other odds & ends. I can leave it outside without worrying about it getting rained on. We I tried to be more minimal I used a Plano utility box from Home Depot.
You read my mind. I've currently got my camping stuff in 2 Plano containers but I don't have the sxs anymore so I'm pretty sure I'm going to transfer my stuff into the Ridgid box for camping. The mobility of the box for camping is a lot nice then the Plant totes I have right now.
I plan on getting this particular box and putting my framing oriented tools in it (cordless rear hand makita saw, cordless sawzall, framing gun, ect). I feel the longer box really is geared towards these bigger footprint tools and that will help my organization tremendously.
That is a great idea. Now that I don't have the sxs anymore, I've been trying to figure out what to put in this box. I plan on getting a framing nailer so I think I'm going to do the same. Thanks Max. I really do wish the handle on this box would stay out. That is my biggest complaint with it.
@@tgltoday2717 Absolutely. Thanks for the video. Picked one up today along with a second slim case. It will be my drill/impact and bits kit and my old slim case is getting gutted so I can put my double charger and all 9 of my batteries in it again. Bought the 2.0 full stack and just had to grab the organizer half boxes… so I picked up this 28” box to mount the half boxes on. Price was a bit steep versus what I paid for the 3 piece 2.0 stack, but I needed this for the added length. You nailed it for the half box mounts. This box was clearly ahead of itself for having the ability to carry the 2.0 exclusive half boxes
Nice, I really like the 2.0 and saw the half organizers in the store for the first time this weekend. If I was so heavily invested in packout, I'd go all in on the ridgid lineup. I was pretty excited when I saw them announce those half organizers. Let me know what you think of them once you get some time with them. I was just in the store 5 days ago and noticed the price on the 28" bot went up to $89.99. That is crazy.
I got the 28” for $80 so can’t complain… even though right now i could buy the XL 2.0 AND the 2.0 medium boxes for literally the same price- I need the longer box to fit a torque wrench case (that fits perfectly inside)
Hi there! Thank you very much for your orientation to this tote box! This looks like a really great box that affords some weather and dust resistance, as well as durability. I'm in the market to find some sort of tote systems to carry in my pickup truck bed (protected by a softopper cap) for extra storage while towing our travel trailer. The travel trailer lacks an abundance of external storage. I'd guess that I'd get one for my wife, one for me, and a few more for just common camping and trailer equipment.
It's definitely a great box. I've taken it out on the sxs a few times now, it comes back very dirty but everything inside is clean. No dust or water has gotten in for me. It's a little smaller then I was expecting, so I'm not sure how much you need to haul in it but the wheels are super nice especially if you are going to be needing to move it a lot like when camping. I do think its priced pretty decent. I'm disappointed that it came out and was $5 less and after maybe a month of being out even though it went out of stock, the price went up. I have a large Plano tote that doesn't have a gasket but was only $25 at HD when I got it. It's a tad bit bigger then this Ridgid box. If you are storing this in your covered truck, you may want to look at that option since you are looking for 4 or more it sounds. Thanks for watching.
Honestly really great review! I was at Home Depot last night and actually saw this tool box selling for $89...kind of pricey but it sure is pretty solid looking.
Thank you. Yes, the $89 price is nuts. When it first came out on HD website it was listed at $50 but you couldn't purchase it. Then when you cold finally purchase it, it was $55 and now they bumped it up to $89. I sold the sxs so now I have drywall stuff in it. It worked well when I had it in the sxs.
It's 11 1/4" wide, 8 7/8" high. The notch on the top is 1" deep from the top and 1 1/4" in from the side. I also had to make a smaller notch on the end of that one that is 1/8" in from the side and 1/4" from the top of the last cut I made. It's hard to explain so start with the normal notch and if it doesn't close right, you will see what I mean. Thanks for watching.
It looks like the RIDGID Cold Box is back on the HD website for $79.97. Unfortunately it's out of stock online and unavailable in store as of right now.
I Agree 100%! actually have 2 of these, 2 of the standard rolling boxes and bunch of their crates. The Ridgid organizer is also great! I find that I use these more than my packout stuff. My only complaint, well 2 points, the "sliding" handles are not as robust as I'd like. And the wheels are to small for my liking. So for those situations i will opt to grab my red stuff. But like he says, the value Ridgid offers us here is unmatch in my opinion. NOW WHERE IS MY DOLLY KETTER/RIDGID?!?!?
I saw that price hike and can't believe it. I wouldn't buy this box myself for $90. I actually sold the sxs so now I use it as my drywall box. I don't know if they sell a 2nd tray, I do agree it would be nice to have a 2nd one in there. I had to make the orange center divider which I also believe they should just include or sell as an option at the very least.

should have left the water on top and then opened it to see if the water runs into the box on the hinge side like the dewalts do. in real world someone isn't going to dump the water off before opening it when it' s full of tools.🤔
That is a good point. The water runs into the regular box on both my Packout box and Ridgid boxes so I would have to guess this one will be no different.

The Cold Box isn't worth the $70- they want for it. Mine would barely hold ice for 24 hours until i lined the inside with Reflectix. You would be better off getting a Playmate at a yard sale for $3-, and you'd have about the same performance.
Good to know. Thank you . I've not been able to get over that price either and if I'm going to spend $70, I want some good retention. I know days of ice retention aren't needed on the jobsite but it doesn't mean i still don't want it lol
Gun and ammo storage.
😂 definitely fit a lot of ammo in there.
should have left the water on top and then opened it to see if the water runs into the box on the hinge side like the dewalts do. in real world someone isn't going to dump the water off before opening it when it' s full of tools.🤔
That is a good point. The water runs into the regular box on both my Packout box and Ridgid boxes so I would have to guess this one will be no different.
Cold box is in-stock
I saw that. I'm hoping it will be on sale sometime this year. I know its $10 off right now but that's the normal price when it was first released and we couldnt buy one so I'm boycotting the $10 off lol
@@tgltoday2717 I was in a HD that had a ton of inventory am guessing fathers day will be on sale if not sooner
@@khiaraslaw that would be awesome. My fingers are crossed.
Woulda been funny if you kept pulling tools out. Then a bag of groceries, bowling ball ect 😂
Haha you are absolutely right. Now I want to redo it just for that.
Oh yah say,Remember the good old days when a box was a big box from ridged 😝 When comparing the new one 😂 Then loop pulling stuff out in fast motion for a minute 😆
@@2hotscottpro haha I love it.
I don’t get why they don’t include the divider
100% agree. All the boxes that have the slots, should come with dividers I think.
@@tgltoday2717 did you use a 1/4 thick plywood?
@@bludika I believe it was 3/8" plywood. I measured it just now and its 5/16" thick.
Dang lifetime warranty?
They can’t even answer warranty claims on the modular version
I've heard you can take it into home depot and exchange it but I've never had a ridgid bix fail yet to find out.
Wheels are too small and get hooked on everything, otherwise nice box
I couldn't agree more. I'm very puzzled as to why they put such small wheels on it as well. Defiantly way to small.
Wheels are way to small, pack out way better.
Agreed. I'm not sure why they didnt put a better set of wheels on this box.
mines loaded with tools
That's a great thing to have in there for sure.
Should've had bigger wheels. Less drag.
Agreed. Wheels are way to small and the way the handle stays out to wheel it is not good. Everything else works great IMO.
28 inch box it don't measure up
Maybe rigid measures things a little bit different?🤔
Rigid mobile toolbox supported by a Dewalt portable work table! 😂🤣😭
haha heck yea. I love the DeWalt table. I use it almost every day.
