Hello Prof. I have got an offer from a u k university to do a phd and i have got a scholarship but it's fee only..i won't be getting a stipend...are there ways from where I can secure external funding?
Applying in the UK is mostly free of charge. But in the U.S. and Canada it's costly. Research proposal however, is the hardest... Rarely do prospective students know what exactly they're looking to achieve. Of course it is stipulated in the university websites that “we do not expect you to do exactly what you stated in your proposal”.
Hi - that's right. Having clear and specific research questions in the proposal are an indication of the applicants' ability to read and interpret the literature, identify a research gap, and design a feasible study. Research questions in the proposal will be contunually revised and, all too often, students end up doing a completely different project.

I had the privilege and honor to be your student of writing and composition skills held at the University of Isfahan during 2013 to 2014 BA level (meantime Dr. Vahid Parvaresh left for theUK). I continued my education in Computational Linguistics MA level with a GPA of 18.5 and found out my passion to be Frequency and Corpus-Based studies on Vocabulary and other language aspects. Hi Amir, thanks for this. But, unfortunately, it's really dififcult, if not impossible, to tell if you have a good chance or not. Scholarship opportunities are very competative and it's not possible to predict the outcome.

Thanks - perhaps I should have made it clearer in the video. In evaluating your application, your most recent degree will be taken into account. So, in your case your MA degree will be considered. Don't worry about your BA :)

Hi Asha - normally to get a fully funded studentship you'd need to have completed your defree with 70% (distinction)...

Hi - glad you think it was helpful. One very useful website is FindAPhD in which you can find various scholarship opportunities. Alternatively, you can browse the website of Universities that are leading in your area. Sometimes, the topic is selected by the University (Directly-funded Scholarships) in which case you will be selected as a potential candidate if you have a relevant MSc/MA degree and have a good CV with relevant work and research experience. You should apply for multiple opportunities and then wait for the best to happen :)

@@jabindaslobo2999 Scholarship opportunities usually require some research experience as they are competetive. However, gettting a place on PhD programs is definitely possible without research experience.

Thanks. It's difficult to tell 'how likely' it is. But you meet all of the criteria and perhaps the only thing that you might neeed is one or two articles in acadmeic journals. You could apply to UK universities as well as many European and Austrailan unis

Hi, thanks. I believe you can. Although different Universities have different regulations. Some would allow you to do that some do not. If you could present them with your 'expected' classification (or expected GPA), quite a lot of universities would allow you to do that.

Thanks. Yes, I would delete them. You need to keep your CV focused. Irrelevant work experience might distract the panel from what is directly relevant to the PhD program and the scholarship you're applying for.

@@samwilson4297 Applicatiosn are always evaluated holistically. So, if you have a solid proposal (which meets the criteria that I mentioned in the video), a good MA/BA, and a reasonably strong CV (work/research experience), the panel will almost certainly turn a blind eye on the gap issue. However, it also depends on other candidates who have been shortlisted for the scholarship... that's why I suggested that you should aways consider different Universities/scholarships. :)
I did my UG from IIT, india and MSc (theoretical physics) from Utrecht Uni, in the NL. I published a paper in a highly reputed journal during my MSc. I have offers from Imperial College London and QMUL, london, but no funding. Is there any advise/ help ? I would be very grateful for your help people!
