I bought an 18" x 48" piece of 1/2" plywood at Home Depot and covered it with cotton batting - has to be all cotton, polyester would melt from the heat of the iron - and then a lightweight natural canvas. I just put it on top of my ironing board and it stays put, although it could be moved to a counter or any place you'd like. It works very well and was much less expensive than ones I've seen to buy, and it only took about 40 mins to make. Hi Kathy! I love it too! It great for sewing projects as it’s a “Quilter’s Ironing Board”. It’s not so great for ironing clothes. (I keep two ironing boards set up). I loved the music! It was fitting for a time when aprons were an everday necessity. Maybe adjust the music volume down or your voice audio up to please those complaining. I'm not sure how all that works on the backside of these videos.
Yes, the music track is WAY too loud compared to the vocal track. Most UA-camrs are terrible at balancing audio levels. My husband is a professional videographer and audio levels are a critical part of what he does in his professional work every day. He's taught me how to do it in my own videos (mine are just for fun). It's called EDITING. Meaning, you go back and actually *listen* and *watch* your video after you've recorded it, checking to see if the vocal track can be easily heard and the music levels are not too loud or distracting (which in the case of this video, they are). For some of us, too-loud music makes the entire video un-watchable.
A lovely little apron and comprehensively explained; good job. Would have liked longer ties, to tie in front; have stuff fingers so that makes it easier for me. I'm sure that could be attained by just making longer ties. 😊
Love this craft apron! I will be making one soon! I don’t know why I haven’t thought to make one a long time ago! A craft apron with pockets will save me the time of constantly looking for things I just put down!😅😂.
@@kj3d812 I couldn’t figure out which statement was most important!😂 I still haven’t made the apron yet. Working on another project right now but just ran across this tutorial again. This time I even printed out the pattern. I hope it won’t be another 6 months before I can say that I made it‼️😊 This time I subscribed to your channel.
I made a similar apron and when I tied it on, I couldn't get my hands in the pockets. It was too flat. So I had to put little tucks in the side seams at the top of the pocket stitching. It worked.
I would have like the information on the measurements for the apron main fabric and the measurement of the fabric cut for the pocket. I heard the pocket was going to be wide for deep pockets however I didn’t hear what the cut measurement would be.
When you make another apron try taking the binding across, if you start at one side leaving enough to then run it across and down side you will save turning the top over
Well, I can't stop commenting 😂. Is the apron sturdy enough without being lined? Through your video, I kept thinking that I'd want to line it, but when you put it on it seemed fine. I guess you just need to find a fabric that is a bit heavier than quilting cotton, for instance?
I use this apron when I’m cleaning my house. It’s really handy when giving your vehicle a clean. Crafting and gardening……seems I wear it for a lot of things 😊. This one is made from a cotton that’s about the same weight as quilting cottons. I suppose it could be lined and I’ll bet it would look lovely! Maybe reversible too!
Nice video. Love the views out of the sewing room windows. I need to make some aprons too. I have been watching videos for patterns, maybe I will make my own. Don't like the background music Best wishes to you

@@thefriendlyfox Evan as a crafter, I would like a more sturdy apron. The fabric itself looks too thin for an apron period. If you lined it with a contrasting fabric, making it reversible, would have made more since. By doing that, the bias strip wouldn't be needed and would make a better looking apron. Add the pockets to each side before joining the two apron sections together.

As a musician, I'm probably the most critical person on earth when it comes to annoying music, however I didn't even notice the music til I read the annoying comments. I think that's hilarious and if you knew me, you'd think it was hilarious too. I was watching so closely hoping I would learn how to make this darling apron, I didn't hear anything but the sound of your voice. I do have a constructive bit of criticism though, if you don't mind.... I can write a song about anything, play numerous instruments, blah, blah, blah, BUT I have never made an apron. I need some kind of idea for measurements. I must have that. Like if I was going to demonstrate to you how to write a song I would make sure you have everything you need to get started, not just a pen and paper. I'd give you rules for songwriting, etc. Just grabbing a guy's tape measure, placing it on your self, and hurriedly saying, "from here to here, then draw a line", means absolutely nothing to me. It feels like you're dangling a carrot and laughing.....if I watched this video 20 times I could not make this apron. How long is "here to here"? Where is the point of reference for the "here"? Can you please think of the amateur sewist, and maybe realize that not everyone watching a "begginer" video is actually a seasoned professional? Thank you 😊
Hi, Thanks for the tutorial and I may make one some day, I did appreciate your obvious expertise. However, how could anyone other than an expert make this in 20 minutes? I’m sure you personally can, and expert sewers too, but it can’t be a commonplace skill, especially given this seems to be aimed at people who watch this to learn. I don’t mean this in a mean way, I know you have to have enticing titles to gain viewers on UA-cam, but to earn long term/repeat viewers you have to not fake draw them in. Meaning this in a kind way and not to discourage. I wish you tons of good luck. It’s a really cute retro apron!
@@thefriendlyfox Wow pretty amazed you responded after it being a few months since your vid. I will check out your later videos. As I say, I didn’t mean it in any mean sense.
Thank you 😊
Great feedback, thank you! We’ll be sure to include measurements in future videos 😊
I actually love the music, but it might be better behind your audio and volume lowered.
Thank you! Great suggestion!
Really Good tutorial, but the music was kinda loud. Thsnks
Thanks for letting me know!
hi, music is a distraction and you are speaking over it.
Thanks for letting us know!
You could cut that music, the apron was great..
Thanks for letting us know!
The music just gets in the way. Too load and annoying. Prefer to just hear your voice…love the apron by the way
Thanks Hilary! Yes we’ll be leaving out music in the future.
The music is dreadful. It also drowns you out! The apron & instructions I could hear were great. Thanks for your work in making this tutorial.
Hi Helen, we’ve gotten a lot of feedback about the music, thanks for letting us know!
Hi Ali, thanks for the comment. I should have said “20 minute watch” and I realized this after posting. On the newer videos I changed the wording 😊

Wow pretty amazed you responded after it being a few months since your vid. I will check out your later videos. As I say, I didn’t mean it in any mean sense. Good luck to you and your UA-cam endeavors. It’s a tough journey. I have sewed for about 30 years, as a side line, but am nowhere near as accomplished as you. So I’m sorry if I appeared criticizing.
@@aliwilson8734 I didn’t take offense 😊 Sewing I’ve been doing for decades, but UA-cam I’m still learning!
An apron in 20 minutes? It takes me that long to decide on the fabric!
It's often like that for me too!
Is this playing music
It’s music we added to the background and it’s from UA-cam’s Music Library
Can u turn off music ver disturbing g
Thanks for letting us know!
Your computer or phone has a volume button so you can turn the music off yourself
