Just watch this today, and I have to say while it isn’t scary at all, it was wildly entertaining. It had a surprising amount of comedic levity and it was just a fun time at the movies. Russell Crowe was awesome and it was just a good time.
I enjoyed the film Cody as it's better than I thought it was going to be. I did like the true motivations that the demon was planning as it's different from other possession/exorcist movies we're seen before.
I am a really big Russell Crowe fan, so when I heard he was going to be in another movie like this, I got really excited. I haven't been the biggest fan of The Exorcism Movies, but I do enjoy them
You're right about the vibe. It felt like the DaVinci Code by way of The Conjuring. I thought there was still too much cliche setup and resolution and some serious scenes played out like Evil Dead but it wasn't forgettable at least. 5/10
I really enjoyed it. “Tropes” don’t bother me a ton, as they are what makes a film fit in a particular sub genre. I’m not mad at exorcism movies that have body scarring, consistently similar demonic dialogue, and distorted faces any more than mad at slasher flicks for having a masked killer with a blade. Those things are supposed to be there (especially when you read accounts in real life of supposed demonic possession and those things are what are reported), but what this movie does is have a more interesting story surrounding it.
Exactly...and when it comes to tropes...then every horror film from any particular sub-genre will always have particular tropes...the doesn't make it bad...it just defines that sub genre. There are things I know and expect to see when I watch a slasher film for example...the trick is to just execute it well.
It's funny to me that these so-called "Possessions" are still being reported, but we have cameras in every pocket and on every street corner now, and still have zero video evidence. Aside from the ones that are very clearly faked.
Man, whoever made the trailer definitely failed in their assignment, because they looked exactly like what you'd expect from an exorcism movie: very dour and serious.
@Cody Thanks again for another fun review/watch. I say this many times but it is more true week after week month after month year after year. Thank you from always coming from a place of fandom. No agenda's other then speaking your mind at how you see whatever it is you review. I was happily shocked to see a actor like Russell Crowe come into the horror genre.
You know I'm not a big fan of possession movies and I almost didn't see this movie. But I'm really glad I did. It's one of the best possession movies I have seen in awhile. In fact I put it at the top of my list this year probably because of Russell Crowe performance. I really enjoyed the movie I thought it was a lot of fun. It had me laughing and interested until the very end. I absolutely loved this movie and I would recommend it to any horror fan. But I do agree about the CGI I thought it was corny. I still thought this was a solid movie. Saying that I enjoyed your review thanks buddy
This is a watchable film, but its doesn't push the boundary of the exorcism genre in any way, everything in this film you've seen before, but it is shot really well, and Russell crows acting is good, but overall I think this would have been better if it had an adult rating, allowing the director to show us things beyond the usual exorcism tropes.
movie reviews: The Others (2001), Jacob's Ladder (1990), Blade Runner (1982), The Edge (1997), Event Horizon (1997), An American Werewolf in London (1981), The Breakfast Club (1985), Fandango (1985), rank all Seasons of Lucifer, Sons of Anarchy and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Rank all 5 Dirty Harry Films, Top 10 Movies of 1984
I really liked this movie and was so fascinated by the father gabrielles character that I ordered the book that this story was based on. I had no idea that the character is a real priest who worked in Rome as an exorcist. Can't wait to read it! That being said, no it's not scary but it is interesting.
Hey......thanks for doing this review. Appreciative of the work you put in .... First, you said that the exorcist got sent to Rome. He was in ROME from whence he undertook a very very long scooter ride to SPAIN.....🤭😁🤭 This was an outstand movie in almost every regard, and aspect. The only thing that shocked me were the lines Russell's character says: "The Church was used by Satan, for centuries to commit evil in Christ's name." But so far not a single outburst about that MOST DAMNING line from the church nor the faithful. Reminder to everyone with underware in a twist over this movie: Hollywood horror films are NOT Ken Burns documentaries, or biographies. Even though they may depict actual people. Just ask Mel Gibson about the tumult caused by his movie about Y'shua not being totally accurate.
Unpopular opinion: I want to see Russel Crowe take on the other 199 demons. That ending scene was pretty much the Catholic version of SHIELD from the MCU. It also reminded me of the Vatican that was in the Hugh Jackman Van Helsing movie (which I was also disappointed there was never a sequel).
Do you have a video of the 32 scary filmed that you mentioned effected you a little that were scary? Defiantly am interested In which films that they are. Want to check them out. If don’t have a video yet, could you create one of that topic?
When I saw it advertised during WrestleMania Night 2 before the Edge VS Balor match, yeah, the match was sponsored by this movie, I remember tweeting out something along the lines of, think I'll wait and see Evil Dead Rise instead. Yeah, this didn't look like one that appealed to me at all, and maybe I'm right about it. 😉 Thank you, Cody.
In my opinion, this movie ranks second for me as the best possession movie. Right below the exorcist. Even though yes, there are things that follow along in other movies of this genre. Which you just have to have. The way it was done and the way the daemon talks is different enough and the part about this is the daemon who possessed a priest who started the inquisition. Was a really cool part.
Every body singing this movie praises I just don't wanna be all exorcist out b4 the evil dead 2 movie I am really excited for that. I think ed2 will change the genre of exorcism movies
I called the plan pretty early on but thats because I love the christian demonic lore lmao (Was acc close to guessing which demon was possesing the kid) I really enjoyed this movie and loved the effects. I really didn't think the CGI looked that bad which is something that usually bothers me haha.
I don't really dig exorcism movies and I was going to pass on this one, luckily I didn't. This was a pretty good movie, I especially liked the possessed kid's character. This movie flowed flawlessly, and I hope everyone checks it out. You're gonna wanna watch this.
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would I liked Russell Crowe. And I like they were able to bring up the weird stuff about the real guy without actually talking about it. He believed a lot of the molest stations in the church were caused by Satan. Which I feel is what the ending of this movie leads into
I found this hilarious as soon as they said the priest was a panty sniffer I was gone 😂 they just couldn't take any risks with this movie. Then they used every cliché in the book..
I think the film would have been a lot better if there had been more interactions between Gabriel and Asmodeus. Less generic hauntings and more psychological conversations.
😊In my opinion, a few Scottish actors (Gerard Butler?), and New Zealand actors bring a 'difference' when they are allowed to be 'unhinged' and 'world-weary?' As (loosely) compared to how Denzel Washington (The Equalizer) or Jared Leto or Keanu Reeves may choose to tune their role I think. 😉So, these 'cliched' and predictable plots are a given - *but* the actors know that their fans will enjoy their style of narrating it 😊
It's not that hard man. Remember this is Cody's full time job now. If he watched a triple feature....that's just about 6 hours of work. Not even a 9 to 5 job like most people.
@@mariolopez3728 we don’t know if he’s going to a local theatre tho either, so gotta consider travel time, getting home and making the review video for each movie, edit and upload, if he decides to do this all in one night of course lol
Russell Crowe has done the most random movies lately. Idk if his weight gain has made it hard to get roles or if he’s just taking it easy now but I really miss him doing great movies like gladiator, a beautiful mind, and Cinderella man.
As a die hard fan of the Exorcist movies even though I did not see the original yet I will soon I mostly enjoy them all even this one the only Exorcist bad one still number 2 is the weakest of them all but most are enjoyable to watch even though my parents won't let me watch them but I still watch them anyway
Got to say the demon has been used before won’t even attempt to spell I’m a horrible speller lol in the most recent but not to recent paranormal activity the next of kin and a few other movies I’ve seen.
CGI kinda sucked (arms breaking and climbing on the ceiling). Overall it was interesting. Russell Crowe definitely made the movie. Best character by far.
This film works if you look at it the same way as constantine or van helsing rather than a purely horror film. i think the trailer did a poor job portraying that.
Take RC out and this is a generic movie that you wished was better. Why do all demons sound like trolls from middle earth? Kind of wish it had more of “The Nun” vibe.
I just saw this. As a Christian, I liked that they used the name of Jesus Christ. I'm sure that's not a win for most fans of this channel lol, but I dug it. I liked that it stood out. It had everything I expected, but it did enough to separate itself
IMO these films don't work if you don't have any desire for the "affected" to be saved. I couldn't stand the kids in this movie and it pretty much ruined the film because I kept wanting Russell Crowe to peace out and let the devil have them.
There is nothing about this movie that is different other than Russell Crowe. It is as lazy as any movie I've seen in years. I felt like I was watching National Treasure at times. No atmosphere, no scares, no tension. Did not like it at all....
Just watch this today, and I have to say while it isn’t scary at all, it was wildly entertaining. It had a surprising amount of comedic levity and it was just a fun time at the movies. Russell Crowe
was awesome and it was just a good time.
Someone really thought "Let's combine 'The Exorcist,' with 'The Da Vinci Code,'" and amazingly enough made it passable.
Lol that’s what movie it made me think of! Actually watching it tonight lmao
Historically Accurate.❤❤❤
Wes Cravens Vampires, American WereWolf. Black Sheep(90s)
Slither, The Thing(1982?), Voltron.

I enjoyed the film Cody as it's better than I thought it was going to be. I did like the true motivations that the demon was planning as it's different from other possession/exorcist movies we're seen before.
I really enjoyed this movie a lot! Russell Crowe saying cuckoo is worth the price of admission!🤣
I am a really big Russell Crowe fan, so when I heard he was going to be in another movie like this, I got really excited. I haven't been the biggest fan of The Exorcism Movies, but I do enjoy them
I absolutely loved it!!!! Twisted, Creepy and Russell Crowe
Same!
You're right about the vibe. It felt like the DaVinci Code by way of The Conjuring. I thought there was still too much cliche setup and resolution and some serious scenes played out like Evil Dead but it wasn't forgettable at least. 5/10
I watch all kinds of shit so that concept sounds pretty interesting to me
@@Swampdonkey796 It ain't terrible.
I cannot believe Russell Crowe is doing a movie like this. And I can't wait to see it.
It is awful.
Russell was amazing! Enjoyed the movie, so much fun🖤
I liked it. Much better than I thought it would be! I hope to check out Renfield sometime soon!

Yeah, I saw that and I was thinking 'don't we get these kinds of films every 2/ 3 years?' lol.
And showed stuff that are wayyyyy over-the-top.
Starry Eyes was amazing, since you mentioned it.
Well, now that you’ve mentioned having seen Starry Eyes, I’d love to see a review of it.
So what time do you arrive at theatre if you seen 3 movies your a goat!!

Crowe’s stomach enters the room ten minutes before he does
I've heard nothing about this film no promotions or nothing but ima check it out

This film was so much fun and beautiful to look at with a great score. More cool, Russell, priest, please ❤
Great review Cody!
I would like a video of the three movies that had scared you. ❤
I wasn't thrilled by the trailer but I might check this out later on down the line. I'm certainly not in a hurry to go out and see it at the movies.
I have yet to check this out cause I do like supernatural horror even tho it’s the most predictable type of horror.

Russel Crowe favorite actor right now!
This was a fun flick, definitely worth a watch.
Agree that the "feel" of this movie helped it stand out.
Couldn’t agree more, very watchable from start to finish. I’ll be adding it to my collection when the price is right. Good stuff!
good movie - Crowe was great to watch! i like the mystery and discovering of the demon's cave, - it's a "prequel" i think would be great.
Yeah, I didn't like it... but I think I'm just a bit tired of this type of film.
Russell Crowe on the scooter was a vibe though.
Which movies can u count on 3 fingers that have generally scared or disturbed you, Cody?
Do you have a video of the 32 scary filmed that you mentioned effected you a little that were scary? Defiantly am interested In which films that they are. Want to check them out. If don’t have a video yet, could you create one of that topic?

Why these types of movies keep being made. They have become obsolete ever since Twitter and TikTok.
Cody have you heard that cobra Kai season 6 is the final season of the show

And "Chucky" movies are RIDICULOUS!!!
Just watched it , thought it was pretty solid. 8/10
Definitely on my streaming list

"Let's go to hell!" LMAO, awful writing.
So which three movies actually scare you? I'd love to watch them
Hmmm, well, I'm curious now
The Pope's Exorcist (2023) is an okay exorcist movie at best & I give it a 6/10.
I think the film would have been a lot better if there had been more interactions between Gabriel and Asmodeus. Less generic hauntings and more psychological conversations.

Honestly I only really like Exorcist 1 and 3 in terms of Exorcism movies.
Just finished it. Yeah, it's way too familiar, and lacked scares and tension. Russel is so good though that he keeps it watchable. Grade: C+
I hear the Exorcism of Emily Rose is good
The last 20 minutes were fantastic
Agree
Gotta ask this, I know you aren’t a coffee drinker, so how did you manage to keep awake for this triple feature? Lol
It's not that hard man. Remember this is Cody's full time job now. If he watched a triple feature....that's just about 6 hours of work. Not even a 9 to 5 job like most people.

I thought the actress who played the mom was absolutely dreadful. Sounded like she was in a zoom meeting waiting for her turn to say her lines.
Russell Crowe has done the most random movies lately. Idk if his weight gain has made it hard to get roles or if he’s just taking it easy now but I really miss him doing great movies like gladiator, a beautiful mind, and Cinderella man.

@Cody Leach - What are your scariest three movies on your list? Curious. Thanks!
I must be hi, but is feels so similar to the exorcist Series, father Thomas, I mean so Crowe s the Old Lion? juss saying
Do you feel like this needs a series where they take down a new demon every episode?
definitely thought it was a tv series when i saw the trailer and disappointed when i realized it wasn’t 😅
I liked this movie. Russell Crowe did a great job. I just think they rushed the story
I may prove you wrong...I'm one of those people that easily gets freaked out by this genre! Lol
I can't get over Russle Crows terrible accent lol I was dying laughing when I watched the trailer 😂😂😂
Nah. It was actually on point.
Out of all them evil dead is the best
This film works if you look at it the same way as constantine or van helsing rather than a purely horror film. i think the trailer did a poor job portraying that.
I've never been able to get into The Exorcist...I found it boring
The books are good.
This movie was great. Critics who poo poo on it are wrong.

I actually rooted for the demon lol
manyurisms?
The Rite is ok
Most horror themes are burned out!
I did not enjoy this movie at all. No suspense or “scary” moments at all. The story line is decent but I was overall disappointed.
Meh wasn't good wasn't bad just meh. A Hr and forty mins to blow
These type of horror films(about exorcism)just don't work. This film gets worse in the third act sorry but there it is.
🤘🎬🫶 pleasantly surprised, pretty damn good

This was more of a comedy not scary at all
First to comment!
We don't give a shit
If it wasnt russel it would be dogshit but yeah xd
It was boring to me
One of the worst movies ever made for a list of reasons. Cherry on top is the clickbait trailer containing a scene that isnt even in the movie.
this movie sucked and u r wrong
This movie sucked. Just shows (again) how the movies today are awful. The ending was so lame, "Let's go to hell." Holy cow. I miss good movies.
