    He might seem off the wall with his answers, but you can see that he has manners when he turns around and shakes the other guys hand and then goes and gets her gentle kiss at the end. He has very good manners. I like him.

    You people can talk bad about him all you want, but he set the standard along with some other guys to the quintessential rock star lead man, Dave could do no wrong in his day. Even if he was on Coke, he still had some solid answers for Joan, was very positive guy and could make people laugh. He truly lived the dream most of us have in our minds as the "rock star".

      +Chadnmurfreesboro Come on dude I'm not trying to give you grief or piss you off but Roth can't be the standard when he blatantly ripped off Jim Dandy ( Hair, clothes, stage persona, makeup & Roth even adopted parts of J.D's personality into his alter ego Diamond Dave ) Jim Dandy took that creation as far as he could & D.L.R picked it up & just took it a lot further than J.D could have ever taken it & I'm glad that he did because I've been a fan since Women & Children First but in this case Jim Dandy set the standard... I say that & I'm not even a fan of Jim Dandy or his music ( I hate that fucking song, Jim Dandy to the rescue ) but I have to give credit where credit is due

    • @Chadnmurfreesboro

      +rweghg3 It's cool. I don't know you or this Jim Dandy guy, but Roth rocked. Everything builds on something else to some level, right?

    • @tbfdude
      @tbfdude 8 років тому +3

      Jim Dandy was the lead singer of a southern rock group called Black Oak Arkansas. You can see lotsa their stuff on UA-cam. The "California Jam" footage of them (1974) is a good example of him looking like Roth. Well, he was at least a few years before Roth, lol. :D

    • @theadventuresofrussandcoco2077
      @theadventuresofrussandcoco2077 6 років тому +15

      Totally agree. That guy is one in a million. He did an interview with Joe Rogan not too long ago (2 hrs. 40 min!) where he is totally calm and you can see his level of being well read at the very least. He has a level of intellectualism and comedy that is missed by the copiers. Rock bands never smiled until Van Halen showed up and showed how it could be fun.

    • @bondurango
      @bondurango 6 років тому +1

      Back in the day, the "standard" that Jim Dandy set was called "crotch" rock. But, in my opinion, the biggest influence on the "hair band" look and stage persona were the various acts that performed alongside Dandy at the California Jam including Ted Nugent & ELP. Roth is the comedic Lounge Lizard version.

    im not sure if Joan realized how smart the guy she was speaking to actually was. Listen to what he said.... he walked on foot for 37 days in New Guinea. She just let that go right past without even flinching. DLR is a very deep individual...... it just gets lost because he is such a showman.

    Lot's of comments here about Dave on drugs and acting effeminate, well, that maybe but did you ever see Robert Plant back in the day? the heaviest rock band of all time and every bit as effeminate as Dimond Dave, also remember it's show business and Dave is always putting on a show, I just saw a 2 hour plus interview with him on Joe Rogan and he seemed just as high then as here, but he wasn't high on coke or anything, it's just his way, he's full on all the time, that can get old but for an interview and telling stories, it's great. He's one of a kind, no one will be able to copy him or his lifestyle. How many Rock super stars become ambulance drivers at age 50 just for the heck of it, worked as a first responder for 4 summers, that is amazing, but he never stops, has more energy than anyone I've seen. He never married and I like that, some people are made to stay single, I can relate to it and he never comes close to showing regret of apologizing for his style.

      John L Don't you remember him on Friday Night Videos or other interviews back then? The guy would never STFU. This interview he was actually pretty charming, but sometimes Dave was just out there and rambled, haha. Of course when I was 14 I thought it was amazing. In fact he was my first concert, Tesla opened.

      Like I said, I remember him as this 'cool' bad-ass, and my only reference point were the music videos. I think the first time I ever watched him give a straight interview was only like 5 years ago!! lol I think I searched over 20 interviews looking for Dave as this cool, non-challant, doesn't-say-much type but to no avail!! Like I said, Dave's still cool though. When did the DLR band open up for Tesla? "Little Suzie's on the up!"

      I think it was around 1986. Tesla opened for Roth. It was the Eat 'em and Smile album!

    Before I get to my comment, I just wanna say that when it comes to VH, I prefer Sammy.
    That said, Roth has to be one of the most entertaining, quotable people ever to grace the biz. The guy is hilarious. And people forget just how interested he likes to keep himself. Hiking, rock climbing, sailing expeditions, karate, learning 5 different languages, he may be a "mile a minute", but you can't say you're not entertained when watching him.

    People talk about not seeing Roth with any ladies these days. Thats not unusual for a man his age. He's old, so what, doesn't mean he is gay.
