There’s no feeling like going out on your own (not paying for somebody to take you out on a boat), using your own gear, tying all your own knots and reeling in a damn dinosaur by yourself. I had my own experience like this inshore with a big redfish back home on the east coast. Love this content bro keep it up
I so want to get back to fishing but I’m having a hard time. My favorite fishing buddy committed suicide a few weeks ago. Every time I think about going fishing I think about Mikey. 😭 We had some amazing times floattubing the local northern Utah reservoirs. Keep catching some badass fish Mav, I’m sure I’ll be back on the water soon.

He's all about sustainable fishing. Even with bass and trout he releases the biggest so they can breed ... and only takes a few medium sized ones if he needs to eat. The dude understands the ecosystem.

Set your drag more loose so when the fish runs it doesn’t pull out or snap your rod. Just remember to tighten it before the hook set! That’s how we fish for sharks and rays but I know sturgeon are a bit trickier. At least in sf bay they are.

Your pvc rod holder was a common sight growing up in Hawaii. My dad and his brothers attached what looked like the bottom of a t-post + pvc. They put the staked tpost part wedged between corral rocks or stuck on the sand and their rods worked great in the pvc!

I fish for these all the time up in British Columbia. They're one hell of an awesome fight. When you're handling those big boys in the water, roll them upside down and grab them by the mouth. They are a lot more calm and don't thrash around when they're on their back. Makes unhooking them a lot easier.
