    I would like to offer some free advice. If you are going to apply for a teaching position in the USA, do not apply to any inner city ghetto schools in places like NYC, Baltimore, Newark, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis or Detroit. The vast majority of these kids from the aforementioned locations lack discipline and basic life skills. If you ignore my warning don’t be surprised by the frustrations that you will experience.

    • @godwinowusufrimpong2050
      @godwinowusufrimpong2050 Рік тому

      I don't think so because you are going there to make a change in the lives of the kids and grow your professional career. Their discipline you say it's a golden chance to make a change in their lives as a professional teacher. Don't go there because of money but to make this world a better place.

      @@godwinowusufrimpong2050 If you have nerves of steel and a heart of stone--and can endure verbal or even physical assault, not to mention noncooperating parents, then go ahead. I didn't say its impossible, but anyone who says they wanted to help these kids must face dire consequences. Many give up because of the situation.

    of all the vlogs I have watched, it's only you who have mentioned about getting a driver's license and that's a good point to include in our to-do-list!

    • @Teachingandmore
      @Teachingandmore  Рік тому +3

      thank you for watching! :) Yup since most visa sponsors require it, and also since, you will end up needing to drive in the US especially if you were assigned at a place where public transportation is just impossible or super expensive, each state will allow you to drive in your home country driver's license for a certain period of time while you get your US DL.

    I am a public school teacher here in Georgia, and was born in the Philippines where I also taught for a decade before moving to the US. I understand how much more difficult it is for someone who is coming from the Philippines to get a working visa to teach in the US. I was just fortunate to have a tourist visa then and applied independently to private schools (who do not require certifications). I was hired directly and my papers processed so my status was converted. I went back to college in Georgia to take courses to get certified so I can apply to public schools. After I got my green card, I was able to apply to public schools already certified on the subjects that I wish to teach. Unlike in the Philippines which require just one type of license (LET given by the PRC), here I have to take one test for each subject I wish to teach. Aside from the General Math and English test, I have to take the GACE test (which replaced PRAXIS in Georgia) for Secondary Biology, then another one to teach Middle Grades Science. I took a third test for Broadfield Secondary Science and after passing that, I can now teach any Science class within the state. So total of four tests.

I had 12yrs teaching experience in the Philippines and I want to pursue my teaching career over here so my husband and I did a lot of research on the process. Thankfully last month , GaPSC granted me Elementary teacher certification valid for 5yrs. (No exams) I have started applying in Gordon county schools already and praying to be hired soon. Hope to meet you po one day :)

    Hello teacher!
    I hope this message finds you well.
    As a dedicated fan and subscriber, I regularly follow your UA-cam videos and deeply appreciate your insights. I am reaching out to seek your valuable advice regarding my career.
    I passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and worked as a licensed public Secondary English teacher with the Department of Education (DepEd) from 2013 to 2019. Since then, I have been an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Japan.

    I am now exploring teaching opportunities in the United States and would greatly appreciate your guidance on the best steps to take. Specifically, would you advise pursuing Special Education (SPED) units to enhance my chances of being hired? I understand that SPED teachers are in demand, and that it might be more challenging for Secondary English teachers to secure long-term positions and an H1B visa compared to SPED teachers.
    Your insights would be immensely helpful as I navigate this decision. Thank you very much for your time and advice.
    Sincerely,
    Nelson

    Among those on the list, this is what I don't have.
    1. Bank statement, I don't have a 100 thousand pesos on my account.
    2. Letter from a current employer. I am still working in Deped and I don't want to be red tagged.
    3. I don't have a credit card.
    4. I don't have a loan, for now.
    Would it be a problem?

    • @Teachingandmore
      @Teachingandmore  Рік тому

      All these can follow later. The first one will be required usually when you already have a job offer. The last 3 are part of the documents that you can turn in for home ties. For home ties, you do not have to have them all. The most important home tie documents would be property titles that are in your or your spouse's name. (Land, vehicle, business).

    Hello! Some schools ask for teaching license in that state. Why? For example if the school is in Florida, they ask to have a teaching license for florida.

    • @Teachingandmore
      @Teachingandmore  Рік тому

      The requirements really depend on each state AND THE KIND OF VISA for foreign teachers. J1 Visa does not require the foreign teacher to acquire the teaching certificate before coming to the US. It will be arranged when the teacher is already in the US. H1B visa requires the teacher to already have the teaching certificate. However, both visas require the applicant to have a valid teaching license from their home country.

      oh you can try and apply as an arts teacher. I worked with an arts teacher who's fromEgypt at my school since arts is an elective there. However I wouldn't say that it's an in-demand subject area but you can always try. They do not have TLE there per se so you can just choose an area of specialization like agriculture, or arts. I do not know all of the components of TLE so that's all that I can suggest. You will never know unless you try. :)
