Hello there! The mesh screen in the power steering fluid reservoir of a 2002 Honda CR-V cannot be removed. It is a non-serviceable filter that is molded into the reservoir’s fluid supply hose stub. You can use a fluid vacuum to suck the debris off the filter. If it becomes too clogged, the entire unit needs to be replaced. However, if you encounter issues with steering parts breaking down due to a clogged filter, it’s essential to address those larger problems. Regularly flushing/changing the power steering fluid can help maintain the system’s performance and prevent debris buildup. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing to our channel!
@@mikesbackyardmechanic After trying to find a mesh screen and being unsuccessful, I eventually came to this conclusion. Agh if only everything was modular. Thank you!
Yes, they are both hydraulic fluids so in theory it should be ok. But I would recommend flushing it with genuine honda ps fluid for longevity in ps system asap.
Hey thanks for bringing this up. So, Honda only makes their power steering fluid in 12 OZ containers, sooooo, it's not a quart OR pint. It's less than a pint. So, you would need 2 or 3 of the 12 oz containers. WHAT A RIP OFF, can't even give you a full pint/quart. 😆 Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@mikesbackyardmechanic It is probably a metric conversion, lol!. So I get 2 containers from the dealer. I get ready to do the flush. I look all over and under the 2014 CRV to find the reservoir. Guess what? I don't have a pump or reservoir. It is electric assist power steering. Too funny! I will use it on the 2006 Ridgeline. That job was easier than I expected! Ha!!!
Hi there! I used two quarts, but mine was really dirty and could have probably used a third. It all depends on the condition of the existing fluid. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Haha! But, the real reason why it was dark is because the fluid had not been changed in 20 years! Feel so bad for you though that such cool tire sizes are illegal in Canada. Come on down and be free! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hello! Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid. I bought mine at a car dealership. You may be able to order it online from a Genuine Honda Parts website. Hope it helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!
There is a mesh screen/strainer in the PS resevoir that could be punctured if not careful.
Any idea how to remove this mesh screen to clean it??

Wdym? Like if I stuck the pump in to deep?
After each "flush" am I refilling the reservoir? So siphon, refill turn car on turn wheels. Repeat 3x?
Best to remove tank and clean filter
Am in a fix, replacing my rack and only have Honda DW 1 transmission fluid lying around. Is it safe to use it in place of Honda Power Steering fluid?

Does the new fluid you add get cycled thru the steering system on each left and right interval?
Hello there! Yes, if flushes out the steering system with the new fluid when you turn the steering wheel. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Mine is black asf. I did 3 and was still dirty.. might do another 3 lol
You might need to wash all the pipes and etc
Can I turn wheel to wheel with the cap off or do I have to put it back on whenever I refill
Hello there, I would probably take the cap off during the procedure, but it's probably not critical. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Definitely take the cap off so you can get air out if there’s some
How Many liters of Power steering fluid crv 2006 model
The same as shown in the video. About 3 or 4 depending how dirty your old fluid is.
You said "2 to 3 quarts" but it looks like those are pints from Honda. So, is it pints or quarts?
Thanks!

Hello! Yes, you need to fill it each time you empty it. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get the pump from ? Autozone ?
Yes, I believe you can get it from Autozone, Amazon, maybe even Walmart. Thanks for watching!

Is it safe to use Honda DW 1 in a power steering system?
No
How many quarts did you use in the entire process? Thanks!

Thanks for the video! Maybe their power steering fluid is dark from pushing those oversized “illegal” tires around!😂 (Canadá anyway)
