    So happy to see part two of Color history :) yellow is an interesting color but I never used it a lot mayve a little with contrast paints and shades or edge highlights but now I want to actually use it to paint and see what I can do with it. Great video it was a lot of fun to watch

    Fantastic video, love understanding the colour, even if it didn’t bring me any closer to feeling like tackling the models.

    • @RisingApe
      @RisingApe  2 роки тому +1

      The only way to tackle them is to take the first step, for someone starting out, a white prime coat then a darker yellow base, highlighted as in the video then a bright yellow glaze over the top to make them POP!

    We are inventing an opaque yellow, so maybe you need to do a part 2 of this video about yellow as soon our paints are available on the market 😆

    Recently I have done a lot of experimenting with painting yellow using Imperial Fists as test models (using the airbrush). I found undershading quite useful. Two of the 6 models look pretty similar, but I prefer the one that is primed dark violet, than zenithaled magenta (PR122) plus white, with Deep Violet (PR122-PV23) in the shadows (can be both under and over the yellow). For the yellow itself I used Yellow Orange Azo (PY83). The other is more traditionally undershaded with Mournfang Brown over a black primer and than Skrag Brown and finally a warm yellow from above. Both methods produce warm brown shadows, but the one undershaded with purple looks more interesting.
    Ps not even playing Imperial Fists, just trying to figure out hoe to paint yellow.

      I actually agree with you on the brown, I should have put an airbrush segment in this video actually as I think it’s much easier to airbrush than apply by brush

    Another option for painting yellow is to lay down a medium to light brown, as earth pigments tend towards good opacity. I like mixing a brown that involved red oxide or chromium oxide green, as those are very opaque. As long as the brown is yellowish to greenish in tone the other yellows will lay down nicely.
    Also lots of people have problems pronouncing Benzimidazolone yellow. Golden recommends pronouncing it to rhyme with "Benji my dad's alone' =)

    I don't know if you did more off video but the one small critique I have is you say you tried yellow paints over pink but then showed a yellow paint over what I'd say was red/magenta and not a pink paint. leaving me feeling like I still have to try it for myself to see how well it works. I do like the way the magenta compliments the yellow in the shadows and it reminds me of a lesson from a Photoshop class of using colors for shading rather than just black. Otherwise this is a very useful video and I thank you for showing how to work with what my pre-mini painting research seems to say is a hard color to work with. (and maybe the real reason why the Lamenters chapter of space marines are called that.)

      @RisingApe  Рік тому +1

      Hi I would say it’s more of a case of the colour balance on the camera not showing correctly, but there is also no one shade of pink that works, but more that any shade give’s slightly different results. Any warmer colour will work nicely, I have used browns oranges pinks and reds to good effect. Thanks for watching and have fun experimenting

    Yellow is definitely one of those "interesting" shades that's "fun" to work with, but I suspect it's mainly because I haven't really given it much of a chance other than as a highlight for oranges...

    I have heard good things about the Imperial Fist Contrast paint, but don't have it in my collection. Could you do me solid by comparing PY83 (Kimera Warm Yellow) to the contrast paint? Because to my eye's they look pretty similar. Contrasts can be tricky because they don't look the same in the bottle compared to on the model (or on paper).
    Ps great looking bottles you decanted the contrasts in!

    • @RisingApe
      @RisingApe  2 роки тому +1

      Few points in here, first the contrast pots, yup they are fun, they do clog a bit but they are pretty 😍, the contrast is cooler than the K warm yellow but warmer than primary yellow. I did a video on the contrast paints that show the new range but I found them pretty close in colour tbh.

    Dont prime it black or your yellow gets a greenish shine. Prime white or brown for better results.

    • @RisingApe
      @RisingApe  2 роки тому

      whites do make the yellows pop but I find it much harder to fix the shadows. I find it easier to black prime then base coat or just zentithal then paint as I did here. For sure though it’s all on your preference.

    Don't paint yellow over black. It's just a recipe for pain. Use a leather brown as a base coat.

    lead and tin that sounds toxic as hell. But they used a ton of other toxic paints.

    • @RisingApe
      @RisingApe  9 місяців тому

      Yeh for sure, there are way more poisonous things to put in paint for sure. Lead is pretty bad though and it’s a really nasty way to die too
