Seeing anyone give a spotlight to Space Hog is a win for me. I was in college when this song came out, and it still stands up in all its pseudo-Bowie goodness.
I was about 11 when this came out. Summer holidays, life was simple, just playing football, painting warhammer with my friend and just playing outside until I was called home. I was lucky to have that childhood.
I am so happy you reacted to this (analyzed). I was quite surprised to see Spacehog on my feed with you beside it!❤ I love blasting this with the windows down, singing and feeling free! And I don't know know all the lyrics either.

I wish more people knew the rest of Spacehog's catalog. This whole album is great, but the album I really love is their second album, The Chinese Album. It went pretty much unnoticed.
Such an underrated band. Had no idea but loved In the Meantime so much I popped them onto Spotify one day. An hour and a half later, still wasn't disappointed.
I'm amazed you are doing this. I'm amazed Spacehog is still around. I saw them with my wife way back when they were on their way up, in a tiny little dive bar in Boston.
Spacehog was such an under rated band. They were one of my faves back in the day and I still listen to them on occasion. "Mungo City" was always a favourite too.

Playing BASS while singing so well is a whole different talent! Great bassline intro that gets simpler when the singing starts but epic bass tone. I've loved this song ever since it came out and it's still on my playlist. Fun bassline to play on my Stingray.
Agree 100%. To me it seems to combine happiness with a subtle sense of longing and just hooks you in. Another tune that makes you feel happy - and is nothing like "In the Meantime", is the 1989 Rod Steward + Ronald Isley version of "This Old Heart of Mine" (not the original from the 60s). The tone of the music and the way their voices play off of each other is amazing, so happy and upbeat.
I remember buying this on a cassette single in ‘95 and I was in 8th grade. It’s a cornerstone of a 90’s alt rock playlist I put together. This song is an all-timer in my book and I will never not love it, and am SO glad to see this analysis!!

I loooove this song. Everyone has been chipping in with their 90s favorites. The one song I go back to the most is Three Strange Days by School of Fish. I think I’ll listen to it again now.
Royston has just as exaggerated mouth openings live as well. Great bass player too! I was surprised in the opening that you keyed in on the synth instead of that delicious and prominent bass. Glad you wanted to dive i to this great 90’s gem!
I never thought of this as a happy song. It is very melancholy. Apparently, it samples the song Telephone and Rubber Band by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. If you want to listen to similar bands that had more big hits try the Gin Blossoms or Matchbox 20 or the Wallflowers. Some of my favorite alternative rock bands.
IMHO, the song and video are talking about "the meantime" as like a waiting room where we are waiting for our next big thing, but in the meantime, we are all going through the same waititng and we all have that in common. I could be way off, but that's the feeling I get. These people are from all different walks of life and culture, but they are all "in the meantime".
Great 90s anthem! If you're going to dive into alt-rock you need to listen to literally anything by the Pixies for some quite surreal yowling and screaming.

That’s the track… I love that piece of music 😀
What a brilliant flash in the pan. Great hooks, great influences. Captain Freeman is my favorite! Space Hog forever!
Funnily enough ive recommended this one to you a few times, its a "relatively" unknown group from that era. but its an absolute banger.
I LOVE SPACEHOG.
This song has been in my rotation for almost 30 years.
Great 90s anthem! If you're going to dive into alt-rock you need to listen to literally anything by the Pixies for some quite surreal yowling and screaming.
Wait, what? Elizabeth has never reacted to The Pixies? This is a must for The Charismatic Voice!!!
@@brettsiegel6934 I know, right? Voices don't get much more charismatic than Black Francis. I think the song 'Hey' would be a good place to start :)
Ooh! Just had the urge to listen to River Euphrates.
OMG, I love this song, it has so many things going for it. That bridge is soooooo Bowie. And that frikkin baseline is pure genius.
Space Lord by Monster Magnet would be a fun space themed follow up.
The other song that comes to mind is the Meat Puppets "Backwater".
SPACEHOG! I love them! so many college memories!
Pigs in spaaaaaace 😂
Yeeessss!!!! ❤️❤️🤘🤘
No one's going to get this
@@mrnoahlottI do
My favorite was Link Hogthrob!! 😂 also Dr Julius Strangepork. 🤘
@mrnoahlott you'd be surprised how many of us do...
I love this song. I live the reverse guitar. And that... busy signal at the beginning. Love it.
As far as songs that always make me smile, I will always be happy when I hear Peaches by The Presidents of the United States
I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it on a late night PBS show called On Tour in the 90s.
