  • So, I'm back, sort of, I think. A little bit. How's that for non-committal? I wanted to introduce my new bike (I kid you not,) and do a regular all-over-the-place vlog.
Indian lovers, fear not - this bike was traded for an Indian before I ever took delivery of it.

Welcome back nightcruiser your videos are great the way they are. You don’t want to become like everyone else. You may want to add short videos but that doesn’t mean you need to stop the long ones. Listening to you ramble on is part of what I like about your videos. They feel real and like you’re just shooting the s*’t with a friend.

I grew up in Plymouth then immigrated to my father's home country of West Virginia. Me and my 2018 chieftain limited would be bored on those roads!
I stomped around up on the cape a couple summers after high school. Bought a 94 Suzuki RF 600 brand new off the showroom floor at Wareham Suzuki when I was 18 then rode it back to WV when work dried up in November that year.
I had no business owning that bike at that age.

I've been doing research on what my next bike should be. The Road Glide is near the top of my list. Along with the Indian Chieftain, Yamaha FJR-1300, and the HD Electra Glide Standard. I wish that HD would use a mono shock, Indian would use a frame mounted fairing, and that the FJR had a lower seat height. Anyway, very nice bike. Hope you let us know how you like it after you get used to it.

I traded in my indian for a harley and test rode the Challenger before I made my decision on a RGS and I have no idea what this dude is talking about when he says the Road Glide isn't put together as well as the Indian. Sure...the challenger puts down some more power on paper but that's equalized by rider variables so really not that big a deal, and I'll give an edge to the suspension but none of that is saying that the 114 is slow or the suspension is not good by ANY MEANS. The fit and finish of the Harley overall is by far imo better than the Indian, to me the Indian felt cheap, plastics galore, had a tinny sound with cheap rattling sounds. The screen on the Indians infotainment looks like they pulled it off and old LCD TV and it's laggy and the paint on the Harley is far better. Then we get to the HUGE difference between the two brands and that's the dealer network/aftermarket scene/ community availability. Indian is severely lacking in those areas...trust me I know. Overall the looks, support, fit and finish heavily outweighed the two slight advantages the challenger had on the RG so it was an easy decision for me. My buddy chose the Challenger (still a great bike) shortly after he got stranded due to a cracked radiator and several weeks w/o his bike (see dealer network).

@@JLDock On a smoothness scale, the Chieftain is about a 10 in smoothness, and the Road Glide Special is about a 3. No comparison. The standard Road Glides may do better, but I wasn't crazy about the look. Harley has just never been able to match the 4.5 inches of travel on the Indians. I haven't seen enough of the production Challenger just yet to know. Like everyone, I saw the original mock ups, and then saw an ad recently where they showed the front end with the rest of it hidden behind a Scout. If it looks good, I'll get one next year. One thing I have enjoyed about the Road Glide is the open feeling you get from the fairing that's far away from you, similar to a Victory Vision. If I could get that type of fairing with Indian's reliability and the lack of Harley stigma, I'd be a very happy guy. The water cooled engine should be absolutely awesome.

This video has helped me, because I’m looking at a 19 Road Glide Ultra and NOW a 20 Chieftain DH or new RM DH....but the RM DH isn’t blacked out. Thinking the comfort and performance, stereo, handling, shocks are far superior than the HD RGU.

@@JLDock Actually, I traded for the ’19 Chieftain Limited knowing that I would likely end up on a Challenger in the future, but not this year (and probably not next year.) I saw the ’20 RM DH and I like it a lot. It is blacked out, with the exception of the pipes and a few trim pieces. It looks pretty good. I would say that you’re correct in most areas (in my opinion.) The Roadmaster has the Road Glide beat in comfort, handling, shocks, and infotainment. I think the sound system (speakers themselves) is a wash, and the performance of the 114 seems just a tick better in my mind than the 116 on the Indian, but I am very happy to be back in the Indian family.

I love black but I hate black bikes because everybody has one, I'm glad you're on a Harley though. Not a fan of Indian. Also it's a special that's why it rides rougher, if you would have gotten a Roadglide Ultra or the new Roadglide limited the ride would be much better. I've put thousands of miles on a few different style Harleys and I've road a few Indians and I could never go into a Indian over Harley. Didn't watch much of the video, or read the description it seems, as I'd mentioned that I had already traded this bike for an Indian, before I ever picked this bike up. Indians have far better quality and comfort. I chose back because I liked it, and the reality is that it doesn't matter if you had a purple polka dotted Harley, you'll never stand out, because everyone has Harleys due to peer pressure, discounting, marketing and high pressure sales. The Roadmaster beats all comers when it comes to smoothness, comfort and reliability.

@@NightcruiserMA I actually did watch the whole video. I've road 2 Indians. I beg to differ on the quality and reliability and comfort as my ElectraGlide has a far better ride than the chieftains I have ridden. As for the Indian "standing out" they did at first. Many many years ago when they were true Indians. Now like every other brand they mimic Harleys and are just another wannabe. They have a lack of technicians, it costs way to much for any shop to even buy the software to begin to work on them. Therefore you have to go to the dealer with imbisol kids that don't know what they are doing. The reality is they will never stand up the Harleys quality history and or background. If you break down in the middle of nowhere good luck finding a dealer for your Polaris. Everybody knows how to work on Harleys. I know people with over 200k on their Harleys and have never had an issue and I know people with barley 20k and 30k on their Indian and it's nothing but a headache. Either just another wannabe Charley that's all plastic and made for uptight asshats that only put 10K miles on their bike in 10 years.

I think it is simply preference. I am on the fence between the road master and the limited Harley. If you like the Indian, you can lie to yourself about liking the Harley, it's very obvious that you prefer the Indian. That's ok. I love looking at Indians, but can't see spending more money changing the wheels, and front fender to one that I would like when I already like the Harley styling. Buy the Indian, I'll still watch your channel.........the little shot about the Harley culture......come on man, we just ride motorcycles, all of us that come here. Btw, a Road a Glide Special does not have the same suspension, seat, or windshield as a Limited. Peace. Maybe I'll see you at a demo day in Foxboro some time.

Prior to around 2017, you;'d have had to change those things out if you wanted what we, today, would consider a more traditional fender/wheel look. But take a look at the Chieftain Limited from 2017 and 2018, and you'll see a bike that appeals to our more modern preferences right out of the box. And the 2019 Limited line has some Victory and Street Glide styling to it, which made it a win/win for me.

Your new Road Glide special has short shocks on purpose. Swap them with a Road King shock and you gain one inch. Yes the Indians have a great rear suspension, very plush but you can get great rear suspension ride compliance on that Harley. Just stinks you gotta spend some cash to do it. Check out Matt Laidlaw on UA-cam. He has a rear shock for baggers that is excellent. Made by Russ Wernimont Designs. It’s a partnership with Walker Evans. Great shocks by the best off road shock builders in the industry. If you are tall I highly recommend them. If you are short, well sorry, not much you can do about that. Great video.

Then you started talking about the trailer and I thought well maybe he traded the trailer and a Chinese scooter in for the Harley Davidson and kept his Indian. 🙂 and you did. Never fear, even if you parted with your Indian I would continue to look forward to your videos. Watching and listening to them is like getting on my bike and going for a ride without a care in the world. I have a 2012 Victory Crossroads Classic and I will keep it until its wheels fall off. During the years I have owned it, except for the battery and tires, I haven't had any trouble at all from it. In 2012 Polaris Industries just lost interest in manufacturing the bike and stopped upgrading it. The eventual outcome is that sales stopped rising. I'm not happy with Polaris because of what they did to the Victory. I like the Indians but will I ever buy one, probably not. Somewhere down the road they may get tired of building Indians and let that beautiful machine fall by the wayside too. Keep riding and continue to VLOG. OOPS wait a minute! I think you only have what about 3 hours and 20 minutes worth of good riding weather left up there. Oh well, there is always next year.😁🖖

I'm not gonna say I didn't like the Indian but it lost hands down to my Roadglide. Also Indian has their share of problems too and the dealer network and service are lacking compared to HD. All competition is good and pushes the brands to innovate. Indian has caused HD to step up their game substantially which is good for consumers.
