MAC101 Demo: Manic Bloom "Never Back Down"

  • This show was programmed shortly after Starlite Productions took an order of 48 Martin MAC101 LED moving heads for rental stock. These fixtures are awesome - super fast (but, as this video shows, not as fast as the visualizer in my head) and incredibly bright for their size. You can daisy chain up to 10 of them with Powercon link cables and you can put up to 22 on a single 20 amp circuit. Talk about power-saving!
    The show was programmed on a GrandMA Light and all of the timing was done with an external timecode sync with the MA's timecode learn capability. I did not have extensive time to program or to timecode so the show is not as good as some of my others - but for what I did (a couple nights of programming at home and bits and pieces of two days in the shop), I think it turned out pretty well. The ending isn't as strong as I wanted it to be due to tracking issues that I had a hard time fixing. I learned my lessons, though, and know how to correct them in the future!
    Music is buy the awesome guys of Manic Bloom (www.manicbloom.com). Check these guys out - their music is really good. I've been a fan of theirs for about as long as they've had a good internet presence.
    Rig: 48x Martin MAC101, 11x Martin MAC700 Profile
    Control: GrandMA Light
    Rig was constructed on 4x 11' (10' + cornerblock) verticals of truss on 125# bases with 2' and 6' pipes all over the place. The top four MAC700s were hung on the demo truss. The MAC700s were not used as much because this is a show to showcase the MAC101s. Show programmed for the Martin Lighting demo held at Starlite Productions.

    This in My Opinion is One of the BEST DEMOS for the Mac 101! The Programmer is A Legend! As well as the LD! My Brain cannot Comprehend how awesome this is!! I love Watching the First LX Que for the 101 Burst through, and Smash through the 250. Martin are one of My all time Makers for Moving Heads, and the Quality is Superb! WELL DONE!

    There is no software that will generate showfiles universally compatible with major lighting consoles. Most consoles have an OLE - OffLine Editor - or a PC version of the software that requires a special DMX interface in order to get DMX out of your computer. Some examples of PC lighting controllers are GrandMA onPC, Martin M-PC, Hog II/III PC, MagicQ PC, and Avolites Titan Mobile. There are control surfaces available for all of these so you can use a computer as a lighting controller.

  • @fed8925
    @fed8925 11 років тому

    What Lighting Console did you use and have you seen the M6 yet? We have it at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside and am Loving every bit of this software and console. My bud is the head lighting tech there and I'm his trainee. I have to ask this, how many channels are you using and universes?
    Thanks for posting these awesome vids.

  • @soundlight
    @soundlight  13 років тому

    @ThatSpicySauce RAW mode. In RAW, the Red channel controls just the red LEDs, the Green just green, and the Blue channel just blue LEDs. The RGB mode tries to correct for consoles' color mixing engines. I much prefer RAW because it's the way to get the pure, saturated colors that a single color of LEDs provides. The 100% output is also a tad bit higher if I remember right because RGB tries to make a "corrected" white by lessening some of the colors for a better white light.

  • @superninjapjs
    @superninjapjs 11 років тому

    I currently use the MagicQ PC. The console surface basically pops up on your laptop screen and you can use it in just the same way as using the actual console. I own the console and used it both with and without my laptop. Chamsys also has an app for ipad and for android so you can walk around the venue and run the lights off a tablet. Two things about MagicQ that I love is that the software is free and for a small investment, you can buy an ethernet to DMX adapter and run it solely on laptop.

  • @Grimberg111

    Have you been doing the lights for eurovision? because it looks kinda same as there.

  • @benpossehl
    @benpossehl 10 років тому

    It's the sheer number of them that is you perception of these lights more than they are. Don't get me wrong these are amazing, but how much different would it look if you had just a dozen? Quite a bit... And it's all about the programming!

    @patriotviper you can get really creative with the mac500s. We have the ION at our school and unfortunately I have not had time to mess with it yet, but its a pretty advanced lighting console. My best guess is you need to figure out how to do macro commands with the ION (making the heads move on a pattern). You can do them with Martin light jockey if you have that.

    Nice for in the USA, where bigger is always better. And if 1 doesn't work, let take 48 of them !
    LED's a very nice for in a modem, computer or other "HIGH SPEED SIGNAL LIGHTING" with low energy consumption. But it's not a BULB ! It's a diode used for the wrong reasons...
    So this demo really good demostrates: Why you need to flash with a LED and can't do real lighting like fading slowly to zero..
    Nice for Epilepsy people, just 5% of the audiance ! (But only people with EXPERIANCE know this)

    Hey Do you have an email, I have some questions.
    I am working on a new protocol for lighting to make them quicker and sync easier.
    ALSO RGB Mode is a bad Idea. Color should be sent as a HSU value
    I am doing away with DMX Channels and switching to a CAN bus based protocol. I want the lights to have action vectors, where the devices can be loaded a certain "cue" that prevents constant flooding of the bus, allowing for a global sync signal to be use or update certain groups for better timing

    @Chupippomink It all comes down to personal preference but I find that the MA is just a better console to program on. I much prefer MA's division of palettes/presets to Hog's, and the playback options on MA are far beyond Hog. With a double wide executor you can do so much with one cuelist or effect or chase. The MA also has much more customizable layouts and more options than the Hog. Really, it comes down to personal preference, but there's a reason the MA1 is pretty much the desk to know.

    To bad the didn't record the FAN sound from the crapy martin fan's.
    I toured once with a martin 2000 pro. What a amateur crap whas that !
    Noisy fan, very hard to clean and eating dust like madness.
    We had to have 1 spare part for every thing. So we toured with old scool with "flighcases" from the 90's in the beginning !! Because the crap will break in transport if you keep the thing on your "riddable-and-stacked-trust" system. So for profesional use? Nice for in the disco !
