For those who don't know Scorn is inspired by the artwork of swiss artist H.R Giger. His artwork was known for its fusions of human biology and machinery. He was also the designer of the Xenomorphs from the horror film classic Alien.
The biomechanical art is Giger, but what really makes it good for me is how much it's inspired by Beksinski. I love his art, it was a shame he got stabbed lol
The H.R. Giger museum and café in Gruyères is really cool. I'm a huge horror fan and I got heart palpitations while in there and I still don't really know why lol.
ironic fact...saw actually is the way to save the guy...I am not joking, if you bring him to save, he will get freed, it will lock a bit brutal but he wont get hurt much, his body will be intact, and we will have to bring him to the thing that will put stuff on his hand.
Your seamless editing is really appropriated! I can see that there would be hours of clueless wandering around in this game 😅. And being scared by a door in the first few minutes already foreshadows great entertainment in a future playthrough 😇
The feel of this game is just something else. I could tell that this was somrthing that wasn't really up your alley but you still pushed through for a review. Well put commentary!
The interacting thing, it looks like that the Use icon would be a complete white circle indicating that you can use the device which is what other UA-camrs playing the game tend to miss.
Sometimes I'll watch Materwelonz's videos when I'm having a meal at home. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhh not gonna be doing that while watching this game :P
I suppose best question so far, is whether all of this machinery was biomechanical to begin with, or did it get "corrupted" or what have you over time and quite probably lack of use. Another interesting detail is that the person in the...ball for lack of a better word, clearly becomes far more awake / aware after you stick that thing onto his head. Kinda like the pain snapped him out of a daze or something.
honestly feel like this game is the perfect amount of "spooky" while still being exactly right up welonz' alley!! so excited to finally watch your playthru! :D
H.R Giger got's his inspiration for the Xenomorphs by the looks, of the creatures of the deep oceans and also by Zdzisław Beksiński - a polish painter and graphic artist (1929-2005) Which is just amazing. Specially in the last section of the game
If you wonder why it looks like art, its because it does! Scorn drawn both from Giger's body/techno horror and the daunting art of Beksiński. One utilizes anatomical "monstrous" in 'humane', flesh as intricate factory line of production, the other focuses on incomprehensible, alien, otherwordly feeling of cosmic and spiritual.
Heya Mater, hope you're doing well ! I was going to play this myself but then found out it wasn't going to be available on Xbox One for some stupid reason. Thankfully you made a video on it so i can watch the game being played by someone enjoyable :) Cheers from Brazil, keep being you
I really like the tense atmosphere, and the dark Giger / Alien look is really well done. Didn't expect it to be so puzzle oriented though, but maybe that's just the prologue and it's more horror later on. Also seeing it action, the flesh and bone aspect mixed with technology and mechanical elements actually reminded me of some Cronenberg's movies, who explored that same sort of feeling quite a bit.
My only gripe with this is that it's hard to tell what in the environment you can interact with since it's always the same color palette; nothing really sticks out unless you examine every single thing. Other than that, dang, I'm so glad you played this. Don't know if you're planning to play the final game, but that'd be awesome. It's the right kind of unnerving, especially with a game with no dialogue.
@@GMS-ChaabarYakalATL Yeah sure but if a game's 90% of playtime is walking around a room to search for a "hidden" switch or item only to get into a new room which has to be searched again is quite meh don't you think, I'm not saying there should be colourful markers left and right giving players epilepsy everywhere but giving a subtle indication for what to search for is really not bad at all.
The title is so apt, accurate in covering the whole impression about this game. Not a game that i would like to play myself, but might watch. Kudos to the devs, they nailed the look so good to make us this much uncomfortable.
Welonz you should see the 1979 Alien movie if you haven't already. It is a classic masterpiece of horror and suspense. The atmosphere is deep and there are no cheap jumpscares (one earned though ;d). It would also prepare you for the Alien Isolation playthrough that we know you are preparing for us 😜
Yes I completely agree! I have never been able to watch horror movies, but I ended up watching a let's play of Alien Isolation and then my friend who is a huge classic movie fan convinced me to watch Alien with her. And I really enjoyed it! (Plus it was fun to see how the game was so true to the aesthetic of the movie).
I'm surprised you're playing this, it must make you feel quite uneasy, but i appreciate it! "Let's not look at this" is something i don't want to hear you say while playing it though... :D
You know Welonz…..I don’t like the implications of that goop coming out of that….stack at the end…,, Especially if you actually have seen Gigers artwork…….you understand.
I won't lie, it was very enjoyable to watch you get creeped out, Welonz. But yeah, there's a very obvious lack of tension in this part. If the game doesn't switch up its themes in the full release, your brain will eventually filter out the creepiness and the game might just turn into a run-of-the-mill puzzler.
First off: You have a fantastic streaming voice, and it was your voice that kept me hooked on this preview. As the linear aspect of the game and its repeated backdrops kinda bored me. Everything, just looked way too samey and one note in terms of color. If the scenery is does not diversify on later stages, this repeated backdrops and color palette, along with the linear gameplay will be the game's downfall. I subbed because your voice and reaction is what carried this preview!
I had been waiting for this game and witchfire for a long long time and been following its development too. Finally both games are here. Scorn is released. And witchfire will release soon. 😂😂😂
God this feels awful. Like looking at my dads tool CD with 3d glasses, not comprehending what I was seeing but being terrified of what I didn't understand. Amazingly well done atmosphere
Damn you could've saved the poor guy with the saw machine if you didn't already know... But hey maybe he wanted to die. Anyways who would've guessed the saw saves and the scoop kills. :P
saw that you are continuing this game, so decided to cone back and keep watching, have to say this is really the most uncomfortable game I ever seem... but it is intriguing...
Just body horror on its own isn't really my thing, but this game genuinely seems like it wants to do more than just gross you out. By committing to this Giger-inspired artstyle, it's really doubling down on a particular oppressive, strange but at times almost beautiful atmosphere. I'm really hoping to see more of this game on the channel. It makes for such a unique experience and I would love to see it through your eyes more!
Fun fact: most machinery is square edges and straight lines for easy and simple layout and repair. Source: I am an industrial mechanic. (I build factories.)
why are most of the replies to comments not showing up? i tried logging out and i can't even see my own replies to UssyAkaOngus where all i did was mention another artists name, nothing that would break youtube's tos. i didn't even post a link.
Maybe it's just because it's a preview, but really need an OBJECTIVE. WHAT are you trying to accomplish - escape? help others? Pretty much everything anyone does - there is an objective - yet here, we just randomly insert our hands into various things that we'd probably rather not - to accomplish.....what? I'd certainly need a REASON to put my hands in these places - a stronger reason than "my hands fit here".
i started disgusted, ended up intrigued. would love seeing you play the full game at its release (october 14 2022, woah a demo released so close to official release date??) i support the alien isolation agenda in the comments lmao
For those who don't know Scorn is inspired by the artwork of swiss artist H.R Giger. His artwork was known for its fusions of human biology and machinery. He was also the designer of the Xenomorphs from the horror film classic Alien.
And that bekskinski guy
Also Beksinski, who's work was also displayed through Morpheus Galleries.

welonz wheeling the thing towards the multiple torture devices she saw before: i'm gonna help you ❤️

This game really brings to mind a singular question - "Are the walls made of flesh, or am I made of wall?"
The obvious go-to comparison is Geigeresque but this makes me feel more like we're stuck in a Tool music video
I was thinking the same thing. The main menu looks like Lateralus album cover.
Materwelonz and horror?
A smile grows on my face.
"it's not my favorite of thigns cuz I'm quite squeamish"
Smile grows even bigger.

Holy crap, I wasn't expecting this to be on your channel! And for that matter, I didn't know this game was even out yet. Been looking forward to it.
They really hit that Giger look and feel perfectly, I'm very intrigued
Welonz out spelunking in Xenomorph country. I like it.
You can actually save the egg guy if you use the other machine first. But I use the word "save" in the way you can "save" robots in SOMA
You wake up in hell and start messing around with machinery. Satan shows up like "Yo, don't touch that! Jeez, apprentices these days..."
This channel is slowly turning to a horror one :P
Our Welonz is growing in front of our very eyes!!
Im only 5 min in and I already love the atmosphere and sound design.
Thats cool, they made the intro section like what the player does with their hands on pc, the left hand was moving them and the right controls actions
i love the atmosphere. reminds me of H.R.Giger or Z.Beksinski.
Hope we gonna see a full playthough :D
I enjoyed this, and am intrigued to see more. I'd be interested in seeing you play the rest when it fully releases if you wanted to
Totally didn't expect to see this on the channel!
I've seen people keep the partner alive to solve the door puzzle, and others kill him.
Welonz: there are people in this pods!!
...
Fantastic!
😀😀😀
This is both fun and hard to watch, but hard in the horrific disturbing scene. Hope to see this again in october
7:05 "that that your flashlight, or are you happy to see me?"
Heya Mater, hope you're doing well !

that’s not inherently a bad thing though
That highlights how lazy the average game has made gamers, we’re all used to something glowing or being super bright colors to know it’s and item

I can’t believe it! SCORN is finally here!
I'm here to hear Welonz being disgusted every 5 minutes.
Thank you for playing this weird gloopy game so that I don't have to! :)
There's scenery gorn, scenery porn and scenery scorn
14:06 that looks like some kinda execution chair, could this place be a prison? Hella weird
Yup machine execution
Actually it’s not, that machine would have freed the creature from the shell, and it would’ve been able to walk around and help the main character
@@GMS-ChaabarYakalATL that was quite a plot twist for me xD dangerous looking machine saved the life.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat amazing! Was just looking for something to watch x

You can do the other tunnel door on the track with the little egg man and something else happens.
holy crap, they actually finished it? It was like 8 years in development.
You know Welonz…..I don’t like the implications of that goop coming out of that….stack at the end…,,

53:44 RETURN OF POP THE SACK!!! Now it is clear, the game must be continued upon release!
Ooooohhhhhhh unnnerving and interesting
Wanna see more when it releases

I want to see you play the full game!!
When you trial and error alien tech with only a few testers
If this game makes you uneasy, then its mission has been accomplished.
Somehow I can't stop imagining that this is how poop feels like getting through the "system" 🤣
50:50 was an experience, from what to why to how - pure body horror. It will be interesting to see what you make of the full game :D

Interesting, interesting indeed
Shoving your hand into a fleshy alien thing. Where've I seen that befo - SOMA, that's right. This'll be a fun LP.
I was eating spareribs while watching. Bad idea since everything in *Scorn* looks like spareribs! 🥴
God this feels awful. Like looking at my dads tool CD with 3d glasses, not comprehending what I was seeing but being terrified of what I didn't understand. Amazingly well done atmosphere
It sure is hard to eat while watching this
This games seems to have a BioPunk aesthetic to it and I love it.
according to their wikipedia page the devs were influenced by biopunk. very cool.
@@rattyredemption Rad. I thought the look seemed familiar.
First time for me wacthing this playthrough. It's like the entire game is the "Derlict flashback" from Alien Islolation.
I think this game will make for a great and terrifying gameplay in October

This game looks _fleshed_ out XD
This looks really cool,it reminds me of Prey game.I hope you play this game when it releases.
I wonder if there will be multiple endings given I did not kill the little Eggbert man in my run.
The definition of scorn is the belief that someone or something is worthless or despicable.
Sometimes I like to eat dinner while watching these, but something tells me that'd be a mistake this time. I think I'll just watch it right now.
Synopsis: HR Giger meets HR Giger and falls in love with HR Giger
The aesthetic of this game makes me think of Lovecraft meets Steampunk.
7:40 True. No erection is always concerning. Especially in circumstances such as these.
Cool atmosphere I like it
Everyone's mentioning the obvious H.R. Giger inspiration, but I think there's a bit of BLAME! in the environments as well.
Ooh awesome
Love it
Is this the alien isolation 2 we never got
okay, I'm having trouble just pronouncing the video title....but welonz + horror is all I need to know
I am interested... yes.

Biomechanical is the Word of the Day. Living and non-living matter seamlessly integrated.
Do you play as a monster?....thats 😎 cool
This game is more of an WTF than Death Stranding :D
Looks like some of H. R. Giger fantasy... probably why I got Aliens wibes...
Even after an hour of gameplay, I still have clue what the heck is going on with this game 😅
So, basically, it's Myst, but everything look like raw mean, sphincter or bone. Got it.
