Phantasy Star II Dark Falz/Dark Force Boss Fight

- This is by far, the most evil carnation of Dark Falz in the entire Phantasy Star series. As you can see in the video, he has this nasty attack that turns your characters evil, which can do a variety of nasty things like prevent you from using Techniques, slow your attack speed, or even make that character completely incapable of fighting. The only defense to this attack, is the magic of the Nei Sword, which dispels the evil in people's hearts, the only problem with this is that the sword dispels the evil as randomly as Dark Falz inflicts it, so largely this boss fight is a matter of luck, making the fight a war of attrition.

The hardest Dark Falz (Dark Force) fight in the entire Phantasy Star franchise.
Its amazing how similar dark force looks between each game. Ps2, Ps3 almost identical and PS4's Nightmare from Zio and random miniboss in the edge. Thats pretty good long term continuity.
Oh man this music brings back memories! This game was so awesome back when it first came out - there was nothing like it on Genesis and even though it cost an incredibly high $69 at the time - it was well worth it.
This boss was CLEARLY the hardest boss in the game, even harder than Mother Brain. I remember losing and losing each time I got here. One time tho, I somehow defeated it with only 'Anna' remaining from my party. I was able to use Rolf's Neisword to immediately exit the dungeon to get me back to Lutz's mansion, but then you have to "walk" all the way back thru underground ice cavern, and finally back to town, dodging most of the enemies by running away. I made it and then revived everybody, but this clearly was the most challenging part of the game.
He isn't challenging, he is just cheap. The Nei Sword and his "evil look" are both completely random. This upload is actually the twenty-third attempt in a matter of 30 minutes.
***** The RNG was not in his favor before this attempt. I've won this battle at a really low level (28), and at other times screamed when I couldn't do anything but attack with Amy (she ran out of MP and used all of her Star Mists) since he made Rolf, Anna and Rudo useless and the Nei Sword decided to go on vacation in this fight.
Joey Lamontagne I guess my original point (as I have no idea what Torers is talking about) is that Dark Force probably should have been the main boss in the game, not Mother Brain.

From a challenge perspective, I would agree. From the story's perspective, it is almost not even needed. It really only exists to further the point that the Earthmen are corrupted and evil.
***** good point Torers..
watching this battle just gives me stress and anxiety. I remember for a while my brother and I could never beat this game because of this boss, but eventually i did end up beating him. Still, definitely the hardest boss of this game.
DF destroyed my level 40 team multiple times. Might have been my stubborn insistence on using Kain and Shir with two shields each, though. :P
This and PS 1's Dark Falz are the two final bosses that I would consider luck being major factor of victory or death. PS 's DF can either deal single digit damage twice a turn, or can pretty much kill a character in one turn (depending on RNG). PS 2's ability has caused me to either have a extremely simple fight or throw the controller in anger.
Yes indeed. However, if you max out your characters in PS 1, you can easily negate the bs double hit. Dark Falz in PS II is totally luck based in every way though.
I even did that, and it was still a luck based battle, since Myau's Cure only heals 40, and DF's can almost take 100 HP off a character whenever he wants. I was definitely not lucky when I fought him.
Joey Lamontagne That's because in the first game, only Alis has a good Defence stat by the end of the game, so she's the only person who can take much of a hit, DF's attacks normally do 20 to her while doing 40-60 to others, Odin/Tyrone can take more punishment than Myau and Noah/Lutz, but only because of the Laconian Armour's 80 Defence stat, Dark Falz attacks twice because there are actually 2 of them, they hid his HP to hide that, the game had a limit of 255HP, so they make you fight 2 of him, he has 200HP and they also programmed it so you could only hit one rather than target them at random like normal, which is why the Guns and the Thunder spell only hit once, it's also why half way through he starts hitting once, making the fight easier later rather than harder.
ChaoticNarrative Tylor actually, not Tyrone.
Duly Noted, my Japanese is quite rusty.
Among the most difficult Final Bosses in all of Gaming history.
CellarDoorx06 2nd out of 3 bosses
...and then you learn that it WAS NOT the final boss.
@@cyrusvail final final boss is a victory lap compared to this 😅
On my first playthrough I managed to beat him without even having Megid (Rolf was at lv 17) and it was frustrating. On my second (and probably last) playthrough I overleveled my whole party before battling Nei First, and when I got to Dark Force I could beat him without suffering too much
Kain has some of the best damage tech in the game.
This battle made me wonder: Are the seven party members meant to represent the seven cardinal virtues? The messages for the "evil" effect were clearly inspired by the sins.
I dunno if they were directly designed around cardinal sins, but of the members you get, I wouldn't think Amia/Anna, Amy Anne, or Hugh/Huey specifically encapsulates any of them to a tee like you could spin the others. And Kain and Rudo would be the same sin if so, being wrath.
@@torers After the evil effect all 7 can be all 7, but I was wondering if the characters each represented the virtue counterparts of them. Justice, charity, diligence...though it is all fanfic material at best if no official source expanded on it.
Cool!
I beat this thing on my first try and it was hell glad I'm lucky.
Light work !!!! 🔥💯
Dose this mean this is how the gods turn evil in God of War? Kind of makes one think how relative everything is.
I’m not happy about the fact amy tries to go chicken-
Music is good, but I hate how upbeat and unfitting it is for this fight.
I agree. I do love The Place of Death, but it always felt unfitting. Which is pretty strange, given Tokuhiko Iwabo did Phantasy Star 1 and the bosses in that game had amazing themes that fit them very well.
Aaa yes... RNG we meet again.
I find it odd that Dark force is considered a robot... Kain for end game!
It wasn't thought. Mother Brain was Mother Brain. Dark Force had influenced the Earthmen when their hateful desires and actions caused the destruction of Earth. It was just along for the ride.
Dark force as a VERY strong history of corrupting AI's PS3's in particularly was amazing at it PS4's took over whole artifal satellites
@@patrickmcathey7081 I know it's another necro but wasnt the final boss in PS4, the dark force in it's final form was a woman similar to the mother brain.
I literally just beat this dude. Holy crap dude lol. What a boss
Wow I got my but kicked multiple times by this and my guys were higher lv or with better health and tp
❤️
