    01:17 - Mother Brain appears
01:59 - Mother Brain battle begins
07:50 - Mother Brain is destroyed (end of fight). End cutscene progression begins.
09:13 - "We were a weaker people then."
09:59 - Final words from all of the characters
    11:19 - Credits crawl start
14:45 - Mysterious flash of light at end of credits
Captured the Mother Brain battle and ending/credits of Phantasy Star II. Was dissatisfied with all the versions of it I found on UA-cam (the GBA version, emulated versions with terrible audio from old emulators, etc)., so I took matters into my own hands. I don't have a way to capture RGB, so I did S-Video instead (my Genesis is an S-Video modded VA6 model 1).
I just love this ending; PS II has one of the greatest story skeletons of any game I've ever played. It's just a shame the dialogue is spread so thin. I wish that there was any chance Sega could do this game justice with a remake today. But even if they did miraculously decide to remake it properly I don't think I could trust them to preserve the good elements of the original game.

Thank you for this. The capture is great and I appreciate the original hardware.
What a depressing ending, way ahead of its time, and really bold of them to go for something like that.
The entire segment with Mother Brain is mesmerizing, that fight looked so good back in the day.

The ending we did not expect. Perhaps the fan community can put together its own ending. Or perhaps this is only the beginning...?

Oh man! The music sounds soooooooooo much better than the VGM's and emulations!

If someone used the "nuked" YM2612 core in an emulator recording, they'd get pretty close to the real deal. But the title screen music is still off on it (this is because of a flaw in the VGM file itself - an uninitialized register).

I'm still bitter about the end of this game. It's soooo convoluted and riddled with plot holes.

I actually liked it… sure, it has a few holes, and it really needed a little more "story presence" leading up to that point for me to really find it convincing (maybe some hints/other evidence scattered very lightly throughout), but I can admire their tenacity in going for it, and I love the grim cliffhanger ending. It's kind of perfect for a game with such a dark atmosphere. And considering the game was from 1989-1990, it's still pretty good relative to its competition. Also, it's better than a modern Nomura Final Fantasy game (IMO).
Actually, that's kind of just how I feel about the entirety of PS II. Lots of things to like about it, but also a bunch of stuff I don't really like. It leaves me sort of conflicted as to how I'd actually "rate" the game. I still love it for other reasons though.
I really liked the "we were a weaker people then. Even though we knew about the evil inside of us, we didn't suppress it. We took joy in controlling nature; we didn't realize we were destroying ourselves until it was too late." Anyway, the "story skeleton" is fantastic, and the game deserves to get redone properly.

@@wyatt8740 I think those are fair points. I played the games out of order. I played Phantasy Star 4 in the 90's, and then PSI and PSII in the 2010's. It might be a little unfair to PSII. The inevitable comparison to the master piece that is PSIV probably biased my take on it.

@@CaptDanneskjold At the time this game was released, so many games endings were, "You defeated the evil! (insert happy graphic) Congratulations! Roll Credits" or worse "Game Over" so to see an ending that any sort of real ending was a treat back then.
