I'm not 100% sure how to stop it, but I've lived in and around the city for all of my 38 years and I never thought we could stop devils night, and we've done a damn good job at that. I don't have the answers, no one does, but together, we can handle most anything. Keep up the good fight brother

fochnut As much as I want to agree, I'm going to have to disagree.I have probably lived in 15 different cities/towns thru out my life. And I have never experience anything like that. Now I have heard a few fire works, but never anything crazy on New Years Eve. But Im not saying Detroit is the only city.

Indahood Films Thanx for the info, i was kinda thinking it was a hood thing too, but i didn't want to offend anyone. Where i live is pretty quiet, however i live maybe an hour from a major city.My aunt lives in the hood close to Cleveland, and she says they get a lot of gun shots after midnight too.

I live across the river in Windsor, Ontario. Fuck no, it's not common. Insane how a single river separates me and a war zone.

Brightmoor is clearly one of the strangest and poorest sections of Detroit. The area feels more like something out of the Mississippi Delta than a part of NorthWest Detroit. Many of the whites I knew that lived there fled to Tennesse and Kentucky. Some neighbors I had in Brightmoor had no running water, electricity, or gas. My neighbor would run an extension cord to my house when his power would get shut off (which was all the time) just to keep his meat in his freezer from going bad.
Brightmoor Pros: You can shoot firearms anytime you choose. You have a great connection to an assortment of street drugs. Housing is super cheap to rent or buy. Things are definitly never boring. You can ride 4 wheelers, dirtbikes, go carts, etc. all over and no one will bother you. Prostitutes are lingering everywhere, although they are super nasty usually. Some of the neighbors are actually cool and look out for one another.
Brightmoor Cons: People shoot guns everywhere. Drugs are being sold and used everywhere. Housing stock was built with inferior materials and are basically junk. If you send your kids to any of the schools located in the Brightmoor district, they are more likely to aquire a felony than a degree. People and contractors dumping their junk and garbage throughout the area. Prostitution everywhere, used condoms, blunt wrapers, needles, etc. Scrapers stealing siding, plumbing, building materials, from every house. Thieves just waiting for you to leave your house so they can steal all your stuff. Home Invasion is popular too, they just kick in the door while your there; kill you and then take your stuff. Don't let anyone know you have anything of any value. If you call 911, don't expect a quick response - if there is even a response at all. The Police, Fire and EMT are overloaded with priority calls and your home invasion is number 13 on the list.
If all of these negatives weren't enough, you have a hefty dose of racial hostility against the extreme minorty of whites that still live in Brightmoor. Not all the blacks in Brightmoor hate all whites, but if your white, be prepared to be a target. My suggestion: Move to Redford or Livonia, you may pay a little more a month, but it is worth it for the safety of your family.

I grew up not too far away, on Gilchrist, between Outer Drive & 7 Mile. That was in the 70's and 80's. Moved to the Corridor in 1987 and then out of state in '94. Came back in '99 for about 6 years. Now I'm out in San Diego, which is a total shithole. Believe it or not, I deal with the same shit here that you're dealing with there. The wife and I have had enough, so now we're looking at AZ.
The problem here in San Diego is, nobody gives a shit, or doesn't have the street smarts to notice. Not to mention the fact that we are not allowed to CCW or open-carry. I'm disabled now (cardiovascular defects), so I can't confront people like I used to when I was able-bodied. Keep fightin' the good fight!

Wrong that was ELCA Lutheran Christian group that brought in 30,000 youths to serve Detroiter's and the lord...... Brightmoor was blessed with thousands of these kids cleaning boarding up, we recieved around 195 of these murals that were placed on abandoned homes in the area.

I can't believe this is from the new year. I made my comment before typing. I'm in dearborn not far away and i didn't hear anything. I'm well within ear shot (no pun intended) so i should have heard something. I honestly didn't think folks still shot on new year's but I'm wrong. Good footage and this video doesn't bother me

I was there for new year's one night, twenty plus years ago. My boyfriend told me to go inside because we were upstairs on a balcony and it wasn't safe. So, we simply went inside. People fire straight up.
I'm not into guns at all, but no one was hurt and apparently this tradition has been going on for decades still!

+freakinrican773 You should hear indiana where gun laws are almost non-exsistant during NYE, almost every body and their grandmother is letting off their gun in indy, I'll never forget NYE of 2014 where I seen a white girl and a puerto rican girl come outside in their NYE outfits in 20degree weather and let off 30rds from their mac 10s.
