I honestly needed this so badly. This came at the perfect time. My mental health has gone down hill and I’ve strayed so far from my path. I feel like I’ve lost myself and I’m falling out of love with being alive. This helps. Please keep doing what you do. We appreciate you.

I feel this too. Guided mediation may be helpful, as you don't have to be the leader. I did a nice heart healing one yesterday. I plan on doing it again today. So many to choose from on UA-cam. The world is so heavy right now. If you feel that low, feel free to reach out, Don't do anything scary. XX

I definitely agree about allowing your craft to be a part of your daily life rather than separate. Because I think it’s important to know that one’s practice doesn’t have to be something that is orchestrated, ritual or spell based, etc. Simply living in rhythm with the earth and infusing small moments here and there with intention is enough. Being a witch doesn’t have to mean setting up rituals and creating elaborate spell work. We don’t need to practice at an alter, or use specific tools. It is all within us. Everything we need is rooted within and is the cord that connects our energy to the universe around us. Crafting doesn’t create the witch, the witch creates her craft. And that craft can be external or internal. Elaborate or simple. Sacred or mundane.

When I feel demotivated, I take a long time break, like two to three weeks. While on my break I find something fun to do to energize and feel enthusiastic, cause that’s actually my charger! Then I look at other witches pages on social media, if I get inspired I started practicing again! If not, I tend to make it flow in slowly till I get back to practicing! The key is not to force your craft!

    I start like this:
    "My Holy Guardian Angel,
You who are with me in this life as my guide and protector
I express my gratitude to you with this prayer/candle which I light for you
I thank you for your loving care and guidance"
Thank you for sharing! I really needed this. Am over my head at the job and with other commitments, and in my winter for sure. Many thanks :)

Thank you for being so honest with us. I appreciate it, and I understand the struggle. In my life, I am usually drowning in stressors and expectations on my time, which leaves me feeling like I don't want to do ANYTHING.
I have found that the simplest things help me feel better: gazing at the moon in a few quiet minutes at night, tending a plant, lighting a favorite incense and just breathing in the scent with no expectations. These can help to kindle that tiny flame inside of you that embraces the magickal in life.
I hope you're able to find your path again soon and don't spend too long bushwhacking through the weeds. We'll be here for you when you come back.

Please know that it does Amy. Truly. I think a you tube creater by the name of Owlvine mentioned in one of her videos that the smallest, simplest of gestures like lighting a candle, professing some measure of gratitude for any small thing, finding solace and value in nature (that's a big one) or mindful breathing can be stepping stones to staying connected to your practice especially when everything is falling apart or when you feel disengaged and stagnant.
Lord KNOWS that's where I'm at right now. Best of luck with your special journey.

Exactly. I light some candles & incense. Have a cup of hot tea. Sit quietly and meditate, don't hurry and no rushing. Quiet your mind let peace come over you. Don't try to solve anything or come up with any great ideas. - Nothing, just breathe and let yourself be calm. Accept yourself as you are at this moment don't push yourself to be more. I do this several times over days, weeks, months however long it takes to be ok again. Blessings & Love. 💜❤💜

When you said "it's your winter" I got goosebumps! I was just talking about this with a friend of mine - we always know when we're going through autumn, those periods of loss, change, drawing in, dying back. But I think many of us have forgotten that before our "spring" comes again, there's a period of stillness, and waiting. We're so used to just going going going that when we feel like growth has slowed, we get scared that something is deeply wrong. But nothing is wrong - it's just your winter. Thank you for this important reminder 💛

It might sound funny but you doing this has made me feel so much less alone...I dont know why but when I am in these "feelings" I tend to feel like I am the odd one out, and that I am the only person that must be going thru this...because when I see everyone else in my life it just doesnt seem like they ever go thru these times...so seeing someone, like yourself, that I really look up too and find inspiration from, go thru these emotions, gives me a lot of comfort! So thank you Annie for being open with us!! I’m sure you have had lots of great advice. For me the best, and hardest thing, is to be kind to yourself. I think your magic practice right now is the book you’re editing. Imagine how many people will be changed from reading it. I heard a retired female congresswoman (wish I could remember who) who said “Yes, you can have it all, just not at once.” I try to remember that when I get overwhelmed. Thanks for all of your inspiration.

I found out the hard way that my practice is very tied to my emotions. If I'm not in a good headspace, or I'm emotionally off then research and actually doing witchcraft can just nose dive. I definitely agree with reading a new book, but perhaps even more easy is watching videos that have interested me but I didn't try for whatever reason. Books can be hard when you're down, but comfortably curled up with a pet and watching a video is very easy.

Thank you Annie, I really needed to hear this - I have been in my "winter" for some time now due to issues that are going on in my life, and have found it difficult to put my whole heart into my practice. It has made me feel like a "fake" witch, but your explanation has made perfect sense, and now I don't feel so bad about myself. The only thing that has kept me going this last year is my garden (and that is where my magic really happens) - but my altar has not been touched for a while, except for lighting the occasional candle and incense just to make me feel better about myself. Self doubt and depression can be so debilitating when it comes to your practice, so I am glad you did this video to share with us your thoughts on the down times. Blessings to you x

A lot of people think practicing every day has to involve some complicated spell or ritual, when it can be as simple as lighting a candle to your deity/ancestors, stirring an intention for the day into your coffee or tea, or doing a cleansing & protection while in the shower. My favorite is putting an intention into my coffee. I have mental illnesses, which makes motivation extremely difficult some days, but I do have tea or coffee everyday (while showering can be a huge struggle). It doesn’t have to be as hard as we make it. 😊

Thank you for saying what a lot of us have probably been currently going though. I myself enjoy Spring, however it does not like me it seems. I get my worst illnesses in Spring. After being so sick , it has taken a great toll on my family, especially my children. I feel this is life forcing me to care for myself. One of the things we enjoy to do once I start to come back to life is watch your video on Violet syrup. Afterwards, my children and I gather up and make some Violet syrup for ourselves and friends of the family. This is where we start my reset to come back into the craft now and a favourite activity for us. As for myself, I am currently still recovering. Please don't feel like you have to post if you are not feeling up for it. Life has sometimes very harsh ways of making us care for one's self first. Take care, sit back and enjoy a nice pot of tea while spending time with your furry little ones. Again, Thank you so much, we appreciate you, and time for you to appreciate you as well. People here will still be here waiting, so feel better soon and may Lady Luck smile upon you.

Thank you so much Annie, for this very *real* video. I think these are words that all of us need to hear from time to time.
For me personally, I find it helpful to just focus on the magic of the mundane: a beautiful cup of herbal tea sipped with intention, watering my garden and making offerings there, taking a blissful shower or bath as a form of self care. I sometimes have to resist the urge to make these simple things complicated. Not everything needs to be Instagram-worthy.

I am definitely feeling this. My solace right now is setting up a candle under a small simmer pot with my favorite “cheer up and get up” essential oils, herbs and flower petals with motivational instrumental music and just meditate for a few minutes. It’s not a cure but it’s a salve for me when I’m unmotivated or having a bad week with chronic illness.
I will say that a motivation/manifestation board has helped (even just in pinterest if you don’t want to make a poster) and I’m planning on making a new one when I’m up north for the summer. The witches’ cookery has two videos on manifestation boards and if nothing else it helps lighten your mind and brings positive images into your visual perception. 💕💐

I go through this too. One thing that seems to help me is to take just 20 or 30 min, if I can spare it, and craft a new herbal tea that is simple and read a little bit of a new witchy book or simply go outside if it’s a nice evening and look at the sky, notice all the noises of nature around me, and take a breath. If I don’t have time to craft the tea, though that’s what I love to do, I’ll just make a cup from one I already have and use my cool tea strainer that has a clear quartz on the other end and chant my intention into the crystal. Using a pretty tea cup also tends to help. Another thing I might do is try a new herb I’ve never cooked with and see what happens using it in a new but simple recipe. Working with herbs is also what makes me feel connected the most to my craft.

Lately I’ve been through some very intense magic experiences and after a few months of them I was feeling like it was taking bites from me and taking energy that I don’t know how to get back yet. It is scary and isolating and makes me anxious that I will loose that flow. And while I was practicing it and receiving visions in the middle of the night, working a lot to help myself and my loved ones and basically going through a huge metamorphosis, my financial situation and my social battery got worse and worse until I relished I don’t have any money and exhausted at the level of falling unconscious.
And then I remembered that you made this video and it is in my Watch Later. As I turned it on I thought that it is not really for me, since I still want to practice magic, I just don’t know how to recharge after it. But as I finished it I realized that I need a break as a breath of fresh air. God I’m exhausted. Thank you so much for reminding me I’m a human being that has life and bills and friends that will miss me if I isolate myself for longer. And that it”s okay and magic will be there for my in any case. I really need to have a time out and get back after with new energy! Thank you!

Just a small suggestion, do you practice grounding and centering?
I've found it so helpful in order to make sure that the work is done 'through me' and not 'by me' if that makes sense. Making my body the conduit and connecting myself to the energy deep in the earth as well as far out in the cosmos, the energy to do the work can flow _through_ me instead of _from_ me. I know it's considered basic, but I'm the type that can tend to forget and skip the foundational stuff once I'm focused on and working with more complex issues, and it always ends up draining me. Especially since I live with chronic illness, learning and practicing energetic hygiene has been hugely important for preserving my energy.

Thank you so much for wise words. Lately, I've been working a lot (Holidays around the corner) and I've been feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. With that, I've been feeling guilty because aside from doing Full Moon offerings, I haven't been practicing like I want to. Your comparisons with the seasons really resonated with me. I will definitely try your advice with reading some books. Thanks again and blessed be.

Funny that you mentioned the seasons. I’ve realised over the last few years how spring always seems to wake me up and for some reason I let things slip away during winter. How many of us feel exactly this way? Maybe this is the way it’s supposed to be? Organic with ebbs and flows. Not a mechanical daily practice

It is funny😆 because I'm the opposite. The long cold wintery nights with 🌕 give me the most potent energy. While spring time keeps me suffering in bed stuffy with the worst allergies. I miss the desert🐪🌵🏜

Honestly, I'm relieved to hear about you also struggling with not feeling present in the moment when burned out 😅 I feel so alone with my brain fog, and it's incredibly difficult for me to fight it/let it go. This symptom of anxiety/depression is one of the main reasons to why I started my craft, and mindfullness works for me too, thankfully.
Everyone I know personally is having a hard time this May. I'm wondering if it can have to do with the world opening up and people being so excited during February/March/April, and now people are struggling with the burnout and confusion of what to do next.
After feeling absolutely horrible and alone for a couple weeks, I took today off and let myself be depressed in bed for a bit, before managing picking myself up again, and cleansing my room in the easiest way by simply putting on some music and opening my window. I think this is the time to let ourselves feel and to take life at our own pace. We will feel motivated again, present again, and we are moving forward ❤

I appreciate this candid video, Annabelle. Like many others here, I’ve been dealing with this lack of motivation for over a year now. Pandemic-related? Possibly. But I have found that it helps to remember that I’m a witch ALL THE TIME, and I bring that perspective to everything I do. Which includes when I’m cooking, paying bills, or cleaning the bathroom. Our practice is so much more than casting spells and doing ritual with a coven.
And, like you, I fall into the lovely, escapist comfort of books when I just can’t.
    Or UA-cam 😉

Thank you so much for this!! I have just came back to my practice after a pretty long break, I find that going shopping for new materials helps me get excited to start up again. I do find that taking breaks helps my practice. Being present is something I needed to work on again and short morning meditations has helped a lot. 💕

I have been focusing on learning languages, I lost almost all motivation to practice my craft. Plus I feel like all the spirits are "disappointed" for loosing me loosing my motivation, which almost makes me shy away out of shame. It's complicated 😅 I love the craft, it changed my life and I couldn't imagine my life without it. I just feel a stronger connection with learning languages.

Everything is about balance. It is wise advice to step back when you are feeling overwhelmed. Rest. Regroup. But also remember that there will never be that perfect time when all your work is done, and all your problems are solved. The best way to come back from burnout is to nurture your soul. Find practices that nurture your soul and connect you to the boundless energy of nature, the skies, and the universe. Peace be with you all.

I really liked this video a lot and can relate to it very much (May might be my busiest month this year). I know the struggles of not being present very well, too. As for tipps - I absolutely insist on doing my 10 minutes meditation every morning. I start the day more grounded and have done something for me. Also, i recently started doing what I call „following the cat“ - I try to very consciously notice what my cat is showing me of „his world“ or how he is reacting to me (sometimes when I‘m too stressed, he is uncomfortable. On other times he is literally holding my hand in his paw and seems to try to calm me down). This concious interaction with my cat helps me to be more present.

Stress is really taxing on the soul. And sometimes alot of life stuff demands all of your energy and focus...and that's normal and okay. I just took a six year break -- from sitting in my craft, my spirituality was always there, but I just...did not have the space. Looking back on it has made me kind of sad. But I am now getting back into it and finding some acceptance that this is normal.

tbh i had alot of moments where i just didnt have the energy to do my craft and i thought if my mental health gets better than i should start again, that was a faulty mind set because then it took months to get back into the craft and i even thought of droping it but what always helped me get back to my craft was nature. It doesnt matter what time, what weather, what time of season just looking at nature and how it changes how it looks and its energies that are flowing though them, the elements that are there, it always gave me a feeling of fullfilment, being a part of something and closure that i will get better. After that i just take a moment for myself and then let the energies around me go through me and free me from my cage thats keeping me from being myself. But also now that i more expierenced i think that its okay to skip somethings or just stop and take a break

I'm saving this video for the future because i know i'm gonna need it!

We are a goal oriented society. We are bombarded with messages to Go!Go!Go! and not doing "something" means we are lazy. We aren't made to be this way. Everything in nature has a rest period. Everything. Some days the best I can do is feed myself and the dogs. I've stopped calling my slower days "lazy days." I'm not lazy, I'm recharging. When I can do more, be productive, I do it with more pep in my step. Grant yourself grace and love. The only thing you HAVE to do today is breathe, everything else is optional.

Thanks, as all my other sisters expressed I to really needed this. What I’ve done to jump start is watch my favorite you tube witches.
I do also remind myself of the magick that I do every day, be it cooking, and other daily tasks. It reminds me of a line in the song , the Christians and the Pagans, “you find magic in your God, and we find magick everywhere. If you have never heard the song you might want look it up😁 Again thank you so much 💖

Since I've started down this path in 2019, I haven't been entirely in it. With school, it's been difficult to find time to sit down and work with nature or just figure out what kind of Witch I am. I enjoy tarot and runes, but I haven't found time to really immerse myself into this kind of lifestyle. Not only that, I am very much in the broom closet, which also takes away time.

I find when things are NOT going well I practice more and kind of leaving things as they are when things are good. However, if it has been a while I tend on looking for the next holiday to celebrate and thanks the universe. Frankly, I dont know how you can practice everyday. I can see why you have to deal with burn out as much as you do having to put out a video every week. But thank you for doing it.

One thing I never do when I’m not feeling motivated is force myself. Most likely I need a breather - things have become too predictable and I need to mix it up, maybe do something totally different. I also practice Internal Family Systems to do a thorough inner exploration as to the parts involved in this state. Sometimes there is a part that objects to being denied and sort of deadens the system. Sometimes it can be hormonal/thyroid/autoimmune so I might get some blood work done or I check my nutrition, maybe overhaul my fitness plan. Or….just rest.

Hi lady, look beautiful btw. Great little check-in video, thank you! Love da pups for me. I'm in the same position or moving that direction motivationally. As the 5th month comes to a close and the 6th begins, it becomes a fantastic time to take a step back and check out your life and decisions, and find that balance. Really take a rest after putting so much work into the changes that came with the 5's. In tarot speak, 6's are about beauty and pleasure. A time to connect with nature, with the people you love, self love. The joys of home. I tend to pull a card for myself when I lose all motivation, or do a little check-in spread. Watching artistic videos such as yours, as the KIN Fables, always get my juices flowing and make me want to create. Seriously, if you haven't seen any KIN find it the cinematography, music, and abstract storytelling are simply tearjerking.
