  • The University of Texas at Austin has introduced a Bachelor of Science in Computational Engineering degree-the first of its kind in the nation-which focuses on modeling and simulation to develop solutions for society. The program, offered by the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics in the Cockrell School of Engineering, includes an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on giving students the opportunity to work on complex 21st-century engineering problems within a wide range of real-world applications. Graduates of this new program will be well prepared for the engineering jobs of the future. Whether they choose to pursue employment in industry, government or consulting, they will have the tools they need to succeed.

I'd love to work for a spaceship would use computational models to predict the flight path and so on!
I hope I get to get in UT!

It is mathematical computing is how we communicate, control systems and specifically to ai, graphic .

This is what computer engineering really is. I think computational engineering in one of the most misunderstood engineering majors. Everyone who is not a CE seems to think we make websites, repair computers, etc ..

No. Computer Engineers make computers and computer parts. Computer Scientists develop software and operating systems so that you can utilize the computer. Computational Engineers use both the hardware and software to solve problems from any other field, be it Weather Prediction, Protein Modeling, Simulated Fluid Dynamics for Aerospace Engineering, etc. They are 3 distinct things that may intersect based on an individuals knowledge of the 3 areas

hidden markov chain, simulations, etc super cool -> i want to learn how to create the algorithms tho. i know a bit of numerical linear algebra and have an understanding of the text of "introduction to datastructures and algorithms", i want more.
maybe need to learn a little more math, but understand Elements of Statistical Learning, solved most of the proofs. i want something heavier.

You could pursue one of the 2 Master of Science (Computational Engineering Design or Computational Fluid Dynamics) teaching by Cranfield University in the UK.

Is it better to have a computer science or computer engineering background for this major?

I don't think its a major, its an entire degree. I assume it teaches you everything from the ground up.
