Planet Zoo has MUCH more creative potential and will likely be a lot more fun for those found of creative management sims. Zoo Tycoon 2013, though, might be the better game for kids who aren't ready to deal with the complexities of habitat design and meeting the animal's requirements for space, temperature, privacy, etc, in Planet Zoo.
I 100% agree - Zoo Tycoon 2013 is like easing you into the genre. Planet Zoo can be quite overwhelming when you first start playing - I could never figure it out so sat on sandbox all the time lol - so it’s great that there’s more simple options out there before you take the full leap with hard mode in Planet Zoo lol
Zoo Tycoon 2013 just feels somewhat like a knock-off or a very poor sequel for Zoo Tycoon 2 (my childhood and I love it to bits) imo. ZT 2013 is not bad, I liked the interactivity but I wish there was more 'free' building and design.

I'm actually not a fan of planet zoo's building. It's great for people who WANT to build elaborate things.... but I'm not a builder. I play Planet zoo for the tycoon aspect and that's about it. While I had 100's of hours into Zoo Tycoon 2 I've barely over a 100 in planet Zoo. I completed the campaign and can't really be bothered with the rest. The fencing and pathing tools are pure idiocy. They are way too finicky and make no sense for such an extensive build emphasized game.
Same. And then I look at other people's zoo builds and I just feel like crap in comparison. I will make an exhibit that I feel proud of then see someone build a damn mansion for their animals and it just makes me frustrated in my lack of building skills and patience.

You cannot look at Zoo Tycoon 3 and tell me the animals are better. LOOK AT THEM! They're not bad, but it is not remotely close.
