    Never in my entire life have I met someone who cut out images from their books.
    But your explanation was totally plausible.
    In my family, we were taught that all things, but especially books, were sacred.
    I guess, that`s why so many people who were and are being raised that way, aren`t able to use books for their projects.
    I find your point of view fascinating. It will certainly occupy my mind for more than a minute.
    Thank you for that and this very inspiring tutorial!🤗

      Hehe welcome to the world of junk journals where lots of us love to cut up books and create beautiful journals with them. I think of them as sacred too and I sacredly give them new life. For me it’s a form of honouring the books and getting more enjoyment out them this way. Of course, there are some I would never cut up because I enjoy them more whole, but that’s where multiples also comes in handy. Same with my handmade journals, if someone would get more use and enjoyment out of them by cutting them up and turning them into something else, I am totally okay with that. Not everyone is, and that’s wonderful too. Just about finding what we love and letting others love what they love knowing there’s room for us all and together we make the world richer and more beautiful.

      Thank you for taking the time to reply.
      If only people practised more tolerance in their life. The world would be a much better place. Hats off to your parents, who have raised you into a wonderful person.🤗
      I don`t care how many thousands of miles we may exist apart from each other. It always warms my heart to know that there are so many beautiful people in the world.
      Take care, dearest, and enjoy your weekend.❤

    It was totally taboo when I was a child to tear a book or write in a book, unless it was to write my name in the front. So it feels really naughty especially when I’m prepping an altered book and tearing pages out. It’s part of the appeal to be honest!

    I also grew up in a house that had love and respect for books. So it was always difficult at first to cut into a book. But now that I'm retired, I figure I get more USE out of using them to build a junk journal. With internet, if I want to read something, I can read it digitally.
    I am planning on making my two older sisters, (both have Masters Degrees in English, no less), each a junk journal. So I hope they don't disown me for cutting up all these books to make their journals. Haha!
    We are all "old" now, so its time to dust off all those books, and put them into DAILY USE!
    I would not cut up a very special, or 1st Edition, etc. book. Or one that has sentimental value as it is. I won't cut up a Bible!!! But I will print versus and use that way.
    I even cut up my old HS Yearbook to put stuff into my journal. It will get much more use this NEW way.
    The more you cut up,...the easier it gets!
    If you can't bring yourself to cut up a book, buy a 2nd copy just to cut up.
    I love how FAST you can make your Tags & Journal Cards. Geez, it takes me way longer.
    Thank you for the great video.
    BTW,...Yes, we need to hold onto our JOY! ALWAYS!

      Same here, grew up with books and loved them for as long as I can remember. We had a library in our house that I loved sitting and reading in. And every fortnight we went to bookshops and I’d often get three at a time and spend the weekends reading from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed. So many fun memories. One day I want to write a memoir based on my life of books. So fun. I was going to try to get every book I read as a kid and turn my favourites into journals.

    I was extra interested today in what you had to say about cutting up books. I picked up an absolutely beautiful book from my local op shop this morning with the intention of using it for journals. When I got home I sat and looked through it properly and was beginning to wonder if I could bring myself to cut it up. It’s an older book on the beauty of the British Isles and is full of gorgeous botanical drawings, drawings of birds and scenery etc on lovely aged paper with that vintage style text you don’t see in modern books anymore. Almost every page is a delight. Still not sure what I’ll do with it, but you’ve given me food for thought, thank you. Loved watching your process with these tags and cards too. Will look forward to seeing the journal. 💚

      Aww sounds lovely. Whether you keep it or cut it, you’ll find the way you enjoy it most. Sometimes I get doubles so I can keep one and cut the other. Others I have no problem cutting up. Just depends on the book and how it speaks to me. So let that book speak to you and love it in your own way as a book or as a journal

    You have some great insights into what you do. I feel like, if the book is going to just be trashed, anyway, tearing it up and using it is recycling the book. It's being put to good use, as opposed to sitting in the landfill.
    If everyone created the same, we wouldn't celebrate the arts.

    So cute but I wouldn't dare cut up my Cinderella book it's from 1963 when I was 6 and it cost a whole 29 cents. Besides it's one of my nicknames. In case you haven't ever seen it check out the 1969 Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella musical starring Leslie Anne Warren it's still my favorite version and as old as I am I still know every word to the song Impossible. So cute. I'll be back to watch more of your journal. Thank you.

  • @Meanne77
    @Meanne77 3 роки тому

    Hi JD! I was wondering, how did you decided/what are the measurements of your tags? Even in the recent "collage tags" videos you were using previous tags as templates. At the moment, I always create the tags to suit the image but there is no "standardization" here so it takes me a lot of precious time. I like the idea of cutting the tags way in advance even before knowing what you're going to use them for. So if you take one manilla folder, how many tags do you cut from it? do you use half of the folder to cut the large & long tags and the other half to cut the smaller ones? how do you maximize this? Your tags look big to me (they're more for journaling space then sole embellishment) but I tend to always work with A5 JJ so standardizing my tag size would be nice I think. Thanks for your advises!

    • @JuniDesiree
      @JuniDesiree  3 роки тому +2

      I used store bought tags as templates. I just trace the template as many times as it will fit on both sides of the folder. Depends on the size of the tags as to how I many I get. Here’s a tutorial I filmed a while ago

    Other than two corners nipped off, what's the difference between tags and journal cards?

    • @JuniDesiree
      @JuniDesiree  2 роки тому

      I think tags just refers to that specific shape with the corners nipped off but tags can definitely be used the same way as a journaling card. So in my head I’d say it’s just the shape that’s the difference rather than the function
