- Yes soo i was able to simulate how bright a brightness 1,000,000 block would look like with the program called renderbender.

the reason for that blue-green effect is due to negative brightness values, i assume it went over the integer limit and looped back into the negatives.

You can make brightness negative, this will cause some cool effects, like inverting the game colors. Cobblestone will turn into endstone, stone into bedrock, and so on... It's a really cool experiment. I did this with shaders before render dragon, but it should work with render blender too
Actually, bedrock is stone with higher contrast. Not inverted.

Adding more light levels in game would most likely require adding bits to the width of the light level. Depending on how it's stored this would require a custom save format, just like saving light levels beyond X/Z ~33 million.

@@WOLFPLAYZ5975 Light level is stored as part of a fixed range data value. In order to increase it beyond its current max would require adding more bits to the size of that data value that holds light levels.
Light levels are stored as "nibbles" (4 bits), so there are only 16 possible values

Funnily enough that weird green after image bug happening at the ultra bright levels is what happens to cameras (and I imagine people's eyes) when looking into a high energy laser. So in a the RTX was simulating vison damage from over exposure

I've looked at a 100mw laser (and gotten retinal damage) and no it does NOT look like that. My laser is 532 nm (green) and all I saw was my vision was entirely green with a black dot in the epicenter of my vision.
The black dot was due to the retinal damage.

Poor steve was forced to try and live through the hell, while he was blinded so much, that the images began to burn into his eyes

The smear effect in minecraft of all games is very very interesting because no matter how you can bug the game without a desperate program you couldn't get the effect whereas a source game has a ridiculously easy way to trigger it
these are different smear effects tho.
Minecraft's smear effect is due to the rendering engine not being able to path trace enough light particles. and, in order to not lag the game, it defers some of the calculations to other frames. that's why it's temporal - it's "smeared" in time.
source games, on the other hand, have this effect when there's no map content in the place - source games don't draw a solid background each frame, relying on closed locations or skyboxes to draw over the previous frame. when there's no skybox (citadel levels in HL2 or pretty much any level in Portal) and you happen to stumble upon a place with no props, the engine doesn't render a solid color over a previous frame, and that's why you see contents of previous frames there.

@@Kitulous It seems that VALVe has done something about the Source smearing effect in Source 2 because outside of the map in any Source 2 game is a solid black background unless you specifically add an "env_sky" entity.
Also because of the changes to the engine where brushes are swapped with meshes you don't need to seal your geometry in Source 2 so you're more likely to encounter seeing into the infinite void through small cracks or unless there's no geometry to prevent the player from walking off of the map into the void.
This is a bit of trivia I found interesting
