If you listen to the full quote it's not even what he was saying. The full quote was
"Slavery for 400 years, that sounds like a choice "
They conveniently leave out the 400 years part because that explains what he really meant. Ye said that in 2018 , it is said that slavery in North America started in 1618.
2018 -1618 , well what do you know it's 400 years. Ye was trying to say metaphorically black people as a whole were still enslaved today mentally because of the media and culture brainwashing us.
He clearly didn't mean that he thought litterally the slaves chose to be there under their own free will.
The black community needs to support Ye, you can argue his methods and the way he says things isn't always the best but it's clear he cares about black people. He wouldn't say anything if he didn't and just focus on protecting his career and money which he clearly doesn't care about, basically asking to get canceled.
