I am the biggest fan of Sarah, I do not miss a game when she is playing , she is the best and I am flabbergasted why she has not been called up. Our USA needs her!!! Sarah, you are excellent, yes always work to improve but you are one of the best defenders in the world, seriously!!
Christen and Tobin, I love your perspective on injuries. I am a youth footballer, who faced a hip injury that has sidelined me for 9 months. Watching the re-cap show and consistently hearing your mindsets' through it all has helped me tremendously. Since my sideline, I have really tapped into my mental well being. it's cool how when you start to work on your mental health intentionally, so many doors open. I am only 17 so I have a lot of time to figure things out, LOL, but I feel the most at peace I ever have in relation to my sport. Thanks for being so inspiring.
I love the way each of you question the very foundations of sport today and the human side of it-the pressure, the desire to push the players more and more, the emotional and physical and how they’re intertwined-it’s just fascinating stuff. And it is universal: we’ve all experienced burnout, mental fatigue, physical fatigue, whether we’re professional athletes or office workers or fry cooks. I just love listening to your discussions!
Biggest Sarah fan, and so happy to see that it's so universal. Admittedly, Tobin validates me so often by saying what I think, I start thinking I must know this game. I really don't. I so hope Sarah gets called up some day. Someday, I want her to take it all the way up from the back and score. Do it.
Congratulations to Sarah for being stylish and knowing how to balance her professional life with her work as an athlete. And besides, she still has the job of being a mother.
I particularly loved the Daily Discussion of this episode because it's something I believe in and wrote about it even, that is physical & mental pressure put on athletes. As Christen said, they're TRAINED to not listen to their body asking for help but eventually body stops anyway. Or worse, mind does. What is worse is that I believe that some of the most praised players, both men & women, actually corroborated this mentality. CR, Ibra, Lloyd, they all in my opinion reinforced the image of a superhero athlete who doesn't feel fatigue, who never stops. Stopping is not weakness. And I think it's a point Christen touched again with Sarah Gorden when she wondered if it is possible to be GREAT without being a little toxic. That I believe is the kind of thought that must be eradicated from sport, the idea that sacrifice must basically consume you in order to reach success. Hard work is necessary, hard choices are surely requested, but there must be a limit and that limit should be balance. Of course mine is just and easy opinion from someone who doesn't actually practice sport but I'm passionate and I try to learn and study, and honestly I think it's time to change the idea and the face of success in sport. Because consequences of the toxic side of professional sports can be dramatic. I still have to recover from reading the last novel by Jen Lyon "The Unfinished Line" that deals about this topic (I stongly suggest whoever reads this comment to read it, but brace yourself), and I think it's important to keep highlighting the essential role of mental health in sports.
At about 41' when Tobin talks about "harmony" as being able to contain craziness - as a musician, that is a super important and powerful idea, that "harmony" can get very dissonant, and maybe sometimes that then resolves to a more consonant harmony, or sometimes your music just constantly has a dissonant aspect to it.. but you still have to find the harmony that works for you
i love the places this discussion went.. to christens anxiety at 37:45 I feel like many people experience this at all levels of life- my parents are workaholics, and my dad has been a breadwinner through grueling physical hard work- he cant do that at his age. So how do you chase that greatness/ continue preforming and being the best at what you do? I feel like it comes when youre able to use the powers of your mind and soul to increase your output- to get more out of doing less.... the same power that comes from mind-caves can be the engine that preforms alchemy! When you can comfortably not stay up all night and still wake up the next day and become better... its like the wiseness of your mind creates magic ✨
being a workaholic is not healthy. What was he compromising when he worked so hard? why does one have to continue to be the best? and performing. fuck that. rest.
Great point that CP makes. Athletes are trained to not listen to their bodies and their careers (and $) can hinge on ignoring limits. Athletes are multi-dimensional… data/output, feelings, mental health, and drive. To only address one or two means you aren’t getting the best/whole athlete.
Yeah but the unfornate thing though is that I don't think English Football can change it's schedule there's just too much history but other leagues can but the lower leagues want a trophy to play for.
Hello Tobin and Christen. Good to see NWSL doing well. I am used to play offs as a rugby fan, but it seems odd on football from this side of the pond. Similarly the idea that teams already have nothing to play for at the bottom, one of the big stories here at the end of a season being relegation.
I really hope Sarah doesn’t give up on the notion of the NT. She’d be a hell of an addition even at her age. She’s in excellent form. We shouldn’t let age be the biggest deciding factor for a call up.
Christen, when you spoke about the divide between joy and achievement, I thought of Steph Curry. His game has always seemed to be combining joy with playing at the highest levels of his sport. I bet if you reached out to him, he would have some ideas about how to combine the two.
One point: part of me wants to disconnect the overwork theme from the injury because I would hazard to say that MOST injuries occur because of opposing players making dangerous plays. Tackles, taking players out, etc causes many injuries. Even Christen's injury was about a collision. Players put other players in danger. Christen's question about the pressure of trying to win wasn't quite about the pressure of adding games that Tobin brought up, but cool. But I think when injuries are talked about, players RARELY talk about how other players actually put them in danger. Too much is blamed on facilities, games, practices. Look at the dangerous tackles
I think it's because if you look at the majority of ACL injuries they are non contact and not caused by a dangerous tackle from other players as you have mentioned
USWNT..... I bet many players just know that ...no matter how good they are ... they are not getting looks...look at Morgan Weaver... she should have been in more camps long ago
I really hope Sarah doesn’t give up on the notion of the NT. She’d be a hell of an addition even at her age. She’s in excellent form. We shouldn’t let age be the biggest deciding factor for a call up.

Sarah is such an amazing player!! I'm a huge fan! So happy you had her on!

I think Tobin loves Sarah Gorden more than I do, which I thought was impossible ❤😊
Loved it! Sarah works her tail off game after game. It’s been neat to see her improvement through the years. Also loved the community questions!
Tobin at the end of the daily discussion is me too. Such a good conversation, would love a part 2.

Loved this episode!!! Such a good daily discussion, Sarah was a great guest, and, as always, Community Questions!!
I love it that Tobin is a Sarah Garden fan. Its always intriguing hearing who players admire. Now I'm wondering who Christen follows?
Loved watching Sarah Gorden do that "Shut down" in Chicago. Loved cheering for her. Thanks for this vid. Loved hearing from her!💗💗💗
Congratulations to Sarah for being stylish and knowing how to balance her professional life with her work as an athlete. And besides, she still has the job of being a mother.
Meditation and yoga are so important, but often overlooked. I hope more athletes decide practice. Wonderful episode. Sarah is an incredible defender.
Absolute love Sarah's defense. It's awesome when she turns on the jets💨
Great discussion on player limits. You two are great thinkers and explainers. Thank you.
i WATCH THESE AT WORK AND YOU ARE ALWAYS MAKING ME LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!

this was such a good episode!!

Sarah Gordon seems really cool I will have to root for her now.
I really hope Sarah doesn’t give up on the notion of the NT. She’d be a hell of an addition even at her age.

tobin explained it perfectly. sarah gives them the slight of hope then smashes their dreams and wakes them up 😂

Can't wait to watch Sarah and CP turn on the jets tonight!
Love you ladies great show
@52:22 I laughed so hard 😂 "but that WAS MY DESTINY" lmao christen
Next to CP23, Gorden is my favorite player

Also Women's knee's are just built differently which makes injuries more frequent.
Anything on the Angel City fine, point deductions, and suspension for the salary cap stuff?
CP is officially a disney princess now so jot that down
Great episode. While we’re shooting our shots, I also would love a Porsche 911 🙏
Angel City FC just got in trouble for trying to be sneaky with the salary cap , I think Gotham FC is next to get investigated or Audited 🧐
❤
👍👍👍
USWNT..... I bet many players just know that ...no matter how good they are ... they are not getting looks...look at Morgan Weaver... she should have been in more camps long ago
Ok but which crocs are they talking about?
It's the beach boat one's that can float in the water
Did you know hippopotamus means river horse?
First ❤
Moo Deng!!! aka Bouncy Pork 😂😂😂
"My colors are blush and bashful."
"Her colors are pink and pink"
🩷
