Some quick tips on Naval combat:
1. The "Set aim point" feature really only works on the enemy's hull, so if you target an area that aligns with the mast, it might hit the mast.
2. The guns will automatically aim for certain parts of a ship depending on which ammo you have selected. Round shot will go for the hull, grape for the deck, and chain for the sails.
3. Firing directly into the stern or bow will do extra damage because they have less armor and the shot will pass through most or all of the ship.
4. If you sail upwind of an enemy, the wind may make it so their guns can't elevate far enough to hit you.
5. Aiming away from the bow if you're broadside to broadside will help prevent them from blowing up as that's where the magazine is.

I would argue against your first point.
Setting an aim point on the masts (ideally raking shots at the main mast) and using roundshot is a good way to remove those masts. It's a a far more efficient way of slowing down an enemy than chain shot.
The fundamental of just being able to know that sailing ships cant sail directly into the wind would be a great start really.
At this point in the game's development, can you vie for control of the seas? I saw you can build 11 ships total in the beginning of the game and a few are given to you throughout the campaign. Also, the transport fleets (sometimes up to 16 ships in total) roll into Boston. If you choose the "privateer" background, you get a small fleet of like 2-3 ships, I think. Are those transport fleets defended, or are the ships literally just transport ships ripe for the sinking?
You actually want to be downwind of the enemy to counter-act their guns, as the wind pushes their masts towards you leaning the side facing you down into the sea, whereas your masts will lean away giving you increased range
I must have restarted 5 times now. Every time i eventually run into the problem of having not enough income to afford a big enough army even with taking boston and salem within the first month it made no difference
Historically accurate gameplay then I guess 😅

For research - you do need wagons researched, the bigger the army the more wagons you’ll require to supply it.
DON’T BUY SHORT BROWN BESS - it’s a dragoon-only musket!
Use the cover of the woods whenever possible. There is an advantage when your enemy units are on the open feel and yours have 70-90% cover from the trees

i saw someone else play this game, he took stamina so his troop won't get exhausted to fast and he used the fall back icon for his front unit to slow the brit and save his men. at the end he crushed the brits and took the canons when they were fleeing so he could get more canons on the field
Just a tip, you bought SHORT Brown Besses. They can only be used by calvary and cannot be equipped on your infantry.
Good tip, thanks. In UGCW I think they have a separate window to purchase cav weapons. Wish that would carry over here, to avoid confusion when purchasing.
Im not sure if you mentioned, but when theres supplies on the map. Just put a unit over it and it will slowly pock up the supplies. Much like keeping a unit on a city slowly captures it
Took me a few resets to finally take Boston. The Ai definitely don't make it easy on the different difficulties. Divide and conquer is the best strategy in my opinion. Get them to focus on defending multiple targets or lure them out of settlements is the best bet. This isn't an easy game but I am looking forward to all future development.
One thing you have to know the short bess's are cav only don't buy more save up for the brown besses and other muskets
As of today a trick that’s going around is having around 6-900 troops inside a town which apparently keeps the AI from bum rushing each city you hold.
This is what I do
the main trick is that you don't need a boat
you recruit 4000 soldiers and aggressively chase the English from day one
if you play passive and defensive, they will run over you
And how are you supposed to afford that? All these tricks are just cheesing the overpowered ai that isnt balanced in the slightest.

@@tihomirraspericI did run it passive and I’m on October and I have taken Boston and Portsmouth but my issue is navy as I’m losing shit ton of money from being raided by their navy navy and securing trade seems most important as well as building the trade buildings such as textile and fur so you can sell them for money .
You bought the short brown bess which is only for cavalry.
@TheHistoryGuy This game reminds me of Empire Total War. Much more detail and warfare focused but the combat on land and at sea is similar. It was probably my favorite Total War game.
I love the scale of these battles, so many units giving more options for reserves and movement.
The main developer is a famous modder of the Total War games, so it makes sense.
There is a mod for empire total war that basically makes it empire 2 love it alot of fun my only gripe is the amount of units that are offered but most of them have the same stats so I guess its more of a choose a unit you like

On your opening move, I would have the regiment in Hartford help you take Prov/Newport and let one of Prov regiments take Middleborough, which is a freebie if you move on it right away before the Brits take it from Boston. Otherwise, Brits can threaten Prov from there like they did in your play through. I also would immediately abandon Portsmith and move those troops to Leiceister for the moment. Some abandon Leiceister due to the lack of supply route, but I like to keep 1000 men there eventually for the production in that region.
This looks so much better than total war

Stamina is really important in battles, you have to be careful with how much you have your men charge
The only part im looking forward to with this game is the Naval. Its such a shame UA age of sail wasnt a sandbox game
belive you can transfer minimal crew to other ships where you transfer your crew

The naval battles, im seeing this right right? You have to check on the american/british flags on the ship to know where the wind is coming from?
we all need to lern like i have to lern how i resupply my ships with sailors and units with new soldiers i dont know if that happend on its own or not

This game is hard man. Basically you got to pick fights where you outnumber the British locally. Easier said then done.

got the other games and they are a blast, also i am not sure if you know but in ship combat the circle around the ship tells you the wind direction, green and yellow is when you sail with the wind, the red part of the circle is against the wind and will not be possible to travel that way

you need to TARGET the enemy ship before you can issue a boarding order.
It would be nice if the units ACTUALLY had the real number of men indicated, on screen - Looks like its 50% - tried to count :D (In battle mode ofc). The canons also need some love - looks super weird that they are almost glued to each other in the unit, should be more spacing.
As nice as that would be it would be incredibly taxing for graphics and processing let alone for the dev crew and this game is made by a small development crew. What you see here is far and way a huge upgrade from where they were about 5 years ago in UG: Civil War.
the campaign is unforgiving. after trying multiple times i finally took boston only to have a british naval invasion land 4k fresh troops near middleborough. my guys were depleted and replenishing and got swept off the field. theyll just zerg rush my whole force
the founding fathers didn't have a redo button they didn't have the luxury of staring over all the mistakes they did made it into the history books
Because of their blood sweat we get to have a reset button on pc 😂
Anyone know how to raise taxes or is that feature not yet in the game. Over 20 hours put into it and I STILL can't find where to raise taxes yet.
I’m guessing that’s a feature that won’t be available until later in the game.
@@TheHistoryGuy Definitely makes it more difficult to manage your money. I feel like you are almost forced to take that 10k off the bat for that reason alone. I get to the point where I can take Boston, but then I am left with no way to make a continuous income to keep going beyond that. If they can implement a system to simply keep that money flowing, that will certainly help in the balance.

During the ship battle, Providence vs Unicorn, The Unicorn went from a 2-star rating to a 3-star rating and the Providence went from a 2 star to a 1 star. ?????? What is the cause of that?
having played ultimate admiral AOS, I believe I can answer that, the star rating indicates the overall experience of the crew, so providence lost some experienced sailors while the overall competency of unicorn's sailors went up after some of the less skilled members bit the dust. it's a good thing he failed to board, as the unicorn's more experienced crew likely would've mopped the floor with the old providence.
I recommend abandoning that far ne settlement and Lester, both are out of supply and you can put those troops to better use in the south

@@montarakid1943 The BIG problem is, is that at the moment you cannot even download the game launcher because you get an error message from the server, so it's a right shit show atm
I see it more like this.
Paying 50$ to become a paying beta tester is not something I am interested in. Have paid 10$ for several smaller game developers with very successful results. $10 is the sweet spot for many citizens on our planet as it is not too much or too little, win/win for all.
Also, when a game provider fails to meet Steam's requirements, I never pay for a 3rd party provider for early access regardless of the game. I have everything under the same roof and it is on my terms as a customer regardless of which game it is about.
Worth every penny. Nothing really like this except total war i guess
How are the americans doing this well, this early in the war?
Actually the Americans did really well in 1775 partially due to luck and British underestimation so the game is portraying the opposite of what happened in 1775. 1776, is a different story once Howe lands in NY the revolution was almost lost.
we did great early war, mainly due to the British being their usual posh selves and underestimating the colonies. it was only after they managed to send some serious reinforcements over from Britain that things started to go a bit sideways.
When I see them standing in line firing on each other, I am struck by both the bravery and the stupidity of that tactic!
Not stupid with those weapons. Fighting in a more modern way would just get you wiped out by infantry/cavalry charges

You are reminding me how poor those old muskets were, ok that's a good point. Now for the second sentence, are you saying troops with modern weapons would get charged and wiped out?
@@ArrwmkrI think he is saying that you will get wiped out if you attempt to fight using modern tactics and army organisation (ie squads / platoons), whilst having only muskets instead of modern weapons. Ie modern tactics require modern weapons. At least I think that is what he is saying.

@@zerocontent6890 thank you. I don't really understand how that relates to my original comment. Besides history shows that guerrilla tactics such as in the Boar war were superior to line infantry.
I don’t think the American Revolution and this type of dynamic campaign are a good fit. This game should be more like UGCW with the single battles.
So right now, I am not happy with my purchase.
Be happy that at least you can play it, I bought it and cannot even get the game launcher downloaded and installed....and nobody seems to have any answers for it yet....I'll give it a few days and if not fixed I'll be getting my money back

They have some serious work to do, they went too far into the weeds, they should have just kept the game mechanics from previous versions.

This game is totally broken at the start. You simply cannot beat the English. I cannot afford an army large enough to even CONSIDER taking them on. You need a 4 to 1 numerical advantage to compete . IT IS FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE EVEN ON EASY DIFFICULTY!
The game does a horrible job explaining the campaign settings and tips. The British start with around 7k troops. I cannot get more than 5k due to lack of officers, ammo, or weapons. It is completely fucking broken.
You need around 10k soldiers to compete with the British which is impossible to mobilize.
Even if with soldiers, money supply officers so so much. Its absolutely uneven not sure how its possible to finish even in 2024 april and so many bugs..
