I love trailers like these that say nothing of the plot or story, yet are still mesmerizing and tantalizing. And as always, the music is fantastic. Love Studio Ghibli.

@@vclapem9140didnt take much of my interest tho tbh, but I will give it a shot when the time comes
@Erwin009 Your stupid comment was the exact reason and deliberate intention as to why Studio Ghibli didn't promote the movie whatsoever. With social media on the rise and people like yourself who are quick to judge, the minimalistic approach to this promotion of this movie was to allow fans and viewers to make discussions about the movie without any bias criticisms and opinions prior to premiere of the film. There's the saying ; "Don't judge a book by its cover", and the fact that the movie didn't even hit the theatres worldwide, you're already quick to judge.
Great trailer, why would you spoil even the beginning of the movie? You get a great taste of the art style, the music, the theme (life/death), the weird fantasy elements and creatures, and the general feel of the movie. You shouldnt look for anything else in a 1-minute video
Really love how this doesn’t feel like a movie trailer for a present day film. As it doesn’t spoil the film, it’s not overly long, it doesn’t tell you any sort of important details that lazily/easily foreshadows an important event (ie. spoil). It just shows various aspects of the film will see the whimsical, the horror, the wonder and the grotesque. In order to understand how they fit together you’ll have to buy a ticket and figure it out the rest.
Exactly... can't stand how most trailers show the whole plot these days... this trailer restored my hope
@@H-Vox exactly teaser trailers at least 20 years ago were like 10 seconds long and just showed sparse details to intrigue you.
@@H-Vox Like if you watched the first POTC teaser it was just the scene when the skeleton pirates are walking across the sea floor at night to Port Royal and all you get is this low shot of its foot and the footprint just has the film’s release date.

Where can I watch it ??
The animation quality looks like a step up even from the usual Ghibli productions! No wonder it took seven years to make. Gorgeous.

I'm just happy how it seems like miyazaki is returning to the supernatural style of Spirited Away & Princess Mononoke, always felt like that kind of stuff fit him the best.
Exactly! I didnt like the wind rise much
Honestly, The Wind Rises was still pretty fantastical considering the subject matter
You're right, Miyazaki definitely has a knack for making supernatural/almost thriller type of films, he makes these the best in my opinion.
As an elementary art teacher, whenever I show my young students Totoro or Ponyo, they are just mesmerized. I’ve taught long enough that I can tell some of my students’ parents grew up with Miyazaki films, because more kids are recognizing his work when I show it. No other animator can make the “everyday” and “ordinary” things in life seem so interesting and special. Will definitely be seeing this new film as soon as it’s released.
Bless you for showing the kids this kind of art. All of my art teachers continuously told me “anime isn’t art” my whole life. 😫 Like it isn’t made up of tens of thousands of drawings, involve design or color palettes or anything at all. 😑
@@capimages I like anime art and Miyazaki's work and his movies. My favorites are Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Monoke, Up From Poppy Hill, and When Marnie was There.

The united states military is using technology and manpower to protect deviant sadistic Child SAers that are misusing their access to advanced tools to spy on, harass, and forcibly SA children. This sometimes follows them into adulthood. Children that are still too young to know that what they are seeing is not normal are being exposed to disgusting deviant content that is forcibly shown to them by hacking their devices. Many victims may not even know they have been targeted by this, because the majority of the actual SA happens when they are slipped something that incapacitates them or they are asleep, the only reason they might know is because the perpetrator may leave behind physical evidence, like bruises, scratches, or bodily fluids. If a victim discovers what has happened to them these worms will misuse equipment and manpower to stalk, shame, mock, and generally try to make the lives of the people affected by this as hellish as possible both offline and online. They follow victims in person and try to intimidate or harass them. They generally use different people who act as though they aren't affiliated with each other and don't do anything they can be arrested for at the time of the harassment. They think they can shame and mock their victims into silence because some of what happens is coerced. These are depraved cowards that gather in groups to harass solitary women and children to protect deviant SAers
Those 2 seconds of the heron flying past the boy are so stunning. You can tell someone spent a considerable amount of time studying the movement of this bird before animating it. But I expect nothing less from Miyazaki and his team.
You're right the heron flies with the S-curvature in his neck. Something that's different in storks for example.
I like the old ladies scene
@@kauanhenrique4219 Same here! I love how they almost give off something animalistic gathering at the end of that narrow hallway. Just striking.
*"Anime is a prime example of why two nukes just wasn't enough." - Hayao Miyazaki, Director of Studio Ghibli*
I watch a documentary about him directed his first 3D animation. He supervised the CGi artist doing a baby caterpillar hatched from the egg. Everytime Mr Miyazaki asked for a change, the eye movement (the eyes are opening to fast), the head movement (not enough confusion) how the eyes open and look around the surrounding for the first time. So many revisions, I can see the stress from the CGi artist and he almost give up.
But the end result is amazing.
In the end of the documentary, Hayao Miyazaki decided to stick with 2D animation 😂
これ観たけど、色々と考えさせられる内容だったわ。一度観ただけじゃ理解出来ない部分もあるけど、生きる希望を失っている方々には、一度観てほしいと思う映画なのは間違いない。
Watched this in Japan last month and it is an absolute must-watch. No spoilers, but going to watch it not knowing even what it was about totally changed the experience for me. It is beautiful, and deep and I will need to watch it few more times to grasp all the little details. Enjoy!
was this movie a worthy last movie for Miyazaki??
@@RepulsiveIsTheName I don't think you can evaluate the feeling of something "ending" in the quality of the movie because, based on personal preferences, some people would expect grandeur, some drama, some the best of everything ever done before, because they know is the last. This is a very philosophical movie, as well as having great animation as usual, but is darker than Sen to Chihiro, so the grandeur is not there. For me, as I said, not knowing what it was about before going to watch it, gave me a strange feeling, as if I were missing something. There are some parts where It gets confusing and the role of people involved is hard to frame so you keep waiting to see if things will clarify later on. Without spoilering anything major, there is a scene involving a gate, and something on the other side of the gate which you would expect is going to be revealed, yet is not, leaving you wondering why they even showed it in the movie. Still, overall I loved it, and will watch it over and over again.
@Aupirit 👏🏻 thank you for the brilliant reply
Hayao Miyazaki is honestly one of the greatest visionaries in the animation space. His work has such a special and irreplaceable quality that’s unique just to him. I can already tell this movie is gonna be great.
not one of , He is the greatest. At this point even greater than Disney. I'm sure people at Disney will agree as well except exec.
His ability to dig into a theme and convey that to our deepest consciousness in a way that is so subtle and meaningful is his true skill. I think his brand of storytelling is unmatched
Don Bluth is up there as well.
the Disney and Pixar animation crews all openly admit to worshipping at Ghibli's feet. Frikkin Lasseter introduced him in America out of awe and love!
@@Fizggig agreed. they just dont make em like those guys..
I've never felt such a deep mixture of wonder, excitement, and dread from a trailer before. Knowing that this is Miyazaki's last film (although he has "retired" multiple times in the past, so we can't be certain this will truly be his last one, but it looks pretty final to me) gives me such a painful stab of nostalgia knowing that his career is coming to an end. It makes me reflect on how old I am, being almost 30 and having loved his movies since I was a child. I'm actually afraid for this movie, because I don't want to know that it's all coming to an end. Too many things and too many legends from my childhood have either passed on or transformed into something tawdry or unrecognizable, and I don't know if I can say farewell to Miyazaki. This is going to be amazing, but it's going to hurt so bad.
EDIT: So, apparently, people are saying that this isn't actually going to be his final work, which, if true, is fantastic. But this statement still holds true for whatever will be his final work.
The studios of some of Japan's finest animation directors, including Mamoru Hosoda, Hideaki Anno, and Hiromasa Yonebayashi, also participated in the production, and it was deeply moving to see three people who were once taught by Hayao Miyazaki assist in his final work.
These messages to succeeding animation artists are embedded in the work, and I felt that Hayao Miyazaki strongly wanted to pass the baton to someone else.
It's sad but I always have hope that there will be other people taking up the mantle after Miyazaki truly retires, just like Miyazaki taking up the mantle after Osamu Tezuka was gone. There will be new talents who rise up and continue the anime passion people like Miyazaki left behind, and I can't wait to see those anime yet to come.
So don't be sad it ends (for Miyazaki), be happy it started.
right i am so moved to be going to a theater to experience this for the last time 😢

This makes me so nostalgic. It feels like a full circle for Miyazaki. Even more so than the Wind Rises. The opening shot reminds of some of the scenes from Howl's moving castle and Grave of the fireflies. 0:34 The tunnel and the building scream Spirited Away. 0:41 The animals remind of Princess Mononoke/Spirited away/ Ponyo. 0:50 Calcifer. 0:54 Prince Ashitaka letting an arrow loose.
exactly 😭😭
Grave of the fireflies was Takahata
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I get “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” vibes just from the trailer alone. I have this feeling that one of the things the film will be centered on is acceptance of death and mortality told through a fable in a fantasy setting like in that film, but told through the unique, classic Miyazaki style. Then again, my interpretation could be wrong. Miyazaki is a master at spectacularly subverting expectations, so it wouldn’t be the first time that he pleasantly surprised me on how the story or character dynamics will go.
I am also reminded of Tales from Earth Sea with the melting women. Although Howl’s Moving Castle also had similar animations.
Also the scene from Spirited away where Jihiro is protecting Kohaku from the paper seals from you Granny (Zeniba). They stick to the window and Jihiro when they attack.
This is the first animation film I’ve seen of Miyazaki and it broke me into pieces. Some people here were bringing their 7-8 year old kids with them - I bet they either walked out traumatised or completely grown up, when it ended.
they probably walked out not having understood a single thing

Yeah. Me when I watched princess mononoke. Slowly became my favorite deal in Ghibli film
I was so surprised at how many children walked into the theater to see it! I was like oh my lord not every animated movie is for kids LOL. Main character literally self harmed within the first 10 minutes. It was great tho. Story line, cast, the fucking music. Cried twice. 10/10 recommend

Saw it last night. I had high expectations, obviously, and the movie blew them away. Absolutely phenomenal film.
Everything Miyazaki makes is a hauntingly beautiful visual poem.
I live in Japan and have watched the Japanese theatrical release twice. Going into it with only a poster for context was a wild experience I don't think I will ever experience again. Both times I watched it, the animation left me in awe. He didn't make this movie for a mass audience appeal it was made for his grandson, so keep that in mind going it.
We are all his grandson
So basically for us?
I think that's part of his genius. He makes very specific stories but that's why they're so universal. Too often movies end up stripped of that individuality and the end result is unrecognizable to real life. His movies are so specific they instantly feel like believable people we could get to know. That realism let's him create a connection with audiences that lets all of us go on journeys with him.
oh wow! Cool to know that context! thanks!
Even this trailer gives literally nothing away in the movie. The scenes they show here are from the very beginning of the movie before things start to "take place" (I don't want to give away spoilers).
It's probably one of his most vibrant, colorful and wildly imaginable movies I've seen from him. Every single shot (especially in the last acts) is jawdropping. Also there were some unexpectedly disturbing scenes. It feels like one of his most mature films.
Where the majority of releases these days mainly seem to consist of reboots, remakes, sequels and prequels, it’s a true blessing to have a creative genius like Miyazaki providing us with not only an original story, but one that is more than likely to make jaws drop like anvils. I can’t wait to see it!

I've recently gotten into the habit of watching Ghibli films at the late hours of the night, I'm talking like 1am. It just feels cozy, being whisked away into a foreign world while yours is asleep and the silence gives you the power to focus on the beautiful animation and incredible music, plus so my family doesn't think I'm weird for watching cartoons.
Needless to say, this is definetly going on the list, the animation is surreal.

Saw this movie twice in theaters over here in Japan when it came out. My Japanese is far from great, but even so I was able to understand it enough to get most of the story and I would even say that it’s had a deep impact on me. I truly think this movie truly is a culmination of everything Miyazaki has been trying to do with animation and story. I really hope you guys are able to enjoy this as much as I did.
I got the same impression, exceptionally bad at Japanese but I could follow the film and what it was trying to say very well. It speaks how much Hayao can do with just images and music. It was a profound experience watching it as it was as new to the Japanese audience as it was to me, a foreigner. I'll never forget this memory
I can speak Japanese fairly well, and without spoiling much (even if you've already seen it), the final pieces of dialogue from the great uncle turn the entire movie into a metaphor for Miyazaki's own career and his retirement. It's wild.

Hayao Miyazaki in my opinion… may be one of the best filmmakers to exist, least my favourite. And you don’t know how much it makes me happy that this man has yet again gone out of retirement to create another film, and at the same time I’m upset that this may be his last. I have grown up with his films, and he has truly changed my life forever. And I truly mean that. The imaginative.. beautiful worlds this man creates. The realism in nature and human emotion, the symbolic messages he creates, all within the breach of pencil and paper. And this trailer shows all of that, and I love the fact that we don’t even know much about this fantasy world he has created, I’m just so excited… I now wonder how he wants to express his final goodbye as a film director to the world.

I really appreciate how Hayao Miyazaki, in each of his films, leaves a trace of ancient and modern Italian culture; showing his great appreciation and love for the country. Superb!
Perhaps the most different part of watching this movie is that you have to say goodbye to all the memories you made in your life. Hayao Miyazaki made a new life for us.
I'm actually crying right now. I grew up with Miyazaki and Ghibli, so this was like nostalgia hitting me like a ton of bricks. All good things must come to an end, I guess.
@@joshuafischer8934Yeah but, who is doing anime films like giblee, heck alot of people grew up watching giblee without knowing what anime is.
@@joshuafischer8934well said
I really missed Studio Ghibli animation, they are so heartwarming. Love to see them trying to make a comeback.
You already know this film is going to blow you away forever
Or just blow
Literally almost cried from the trailer alone. What a piece of art.
yep. I feel like the little old lady Obaba in Nausicaa weeping over what her blind eyes could see, the coming of the girl in blue walking on the field of gold when a new Miyazaki Ghibli drops.
🥺yup
lol
cucki
Cried?lol
I have a feeling this is gonna be a tear jerker for more reasons than just the story .
This is TRUE animation! Not that CGI sh!t Pixar and other studios make. This is supreme art.
Finally I can witness a Studio Ghibli movie on big screen. A legend, my favourite filmmaker. Released the trailer on an auspicious day. Best wishes to everyone who worked on this.
If you’re located in the US, the Regal Cinema theatre company does a ghibli festival and airs them in theatres for limited times. I got to see Nausicaa in the original Japanese and it was incredible.
Actually most theater chains in the US participate in Ghibli festival via Fathom Events.
@@ominoustomatoI saw Totoro, Howls Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki all in theaters the last 1.5 years. I even saw Tokyo GodFathers one day. This weekend I’m seeing Perfect Blue.
@@ominoustomato I'm sure I will get hate for saying this but the english dubbed version of that movie was done very well imo, and I enjoyed it more than if i had to read subtitles ꧁꧂
@@docula9153 If you get hate for saying that the dubbed version of Nausicaa was done very well, then those people HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.
Consider the all star cast: Sir Patrick Stewart, Mark Hamill, Edward James Olmos, Uma Thurman, Tress MacNeille, Alison Lohman, and Shia LaBeouf.
The music, the animations... no doubt it is a Studio Ghibli film! I am so overwhelmed with emotions.
IM SO EXCITED!!! The US release is on my bday weekend, and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than with Hayao Miyazaki’s return!!
If anyone is wondering, the translation above the gate is said to mean; “abandon all hope, ye who enter here”
Said to be what is written outside of the gate to hell in the divine comedy.
I could be wrong, but I feel like Miyazaki is about to make a bold statement about the current state of the world. This will be incredible.
It's actually "Divine Power made me"/"I was made by divine power"
It's part of the inscription at hell's entrance in Dante´s Divine Comedy, that ends with “abandon all hope, ye who enter here” .
I get so mad when people say animation isn’t a serious art form, or that it’s just for kids. Animation creates so much space for creative visual storytelling and Ghibli films are literally some of my absolute favorite stories ever. Can’t wait to see this one!
agree, this 2d cartoon animation has unique way of delivering emotional expression, it cannot be replicated, or emulated in a live action even though CGI is heavily used,
its just different, it has its own spectrum of taste
@@joshuafischer8934animations for kids are so much more popular so people tend to generalize all animations as kids movies only
Thats what i think
You should do what I do. I hand those people a copy of "Grave of the Fireflies," and then I say, "Watch this and then apologize to me." Some say "IF it's good I will" or "Yeah, right." And pretty much all of them come back looking shocked and apologize immediately.😂
And this is one of the last before AI garbage takes over everything
@@guaya999 There will be one positive, when it comes to AI produced "art". It will make traditionally produced art, animation, music, and so on, that much more appreciated the same way a handmade quilt of valued more than a mass-produced one. AI creates a product, people create art, and there is no such thing as an AI artist. Merely people who tell a computer what they want it to create.
The comeback of Hayao Miyazaki ! I can't wait to see how polished his directing skills have become since his previous movie. Dude has been consistently raising the bar of quality anime films
I believe this is actually his final movie, he was going to retire but felt like making one last masterpiece. Hes getting old
@@skie6282 I don't know. He always says that but ends up making another film. He actually is working on another animation! So he isn't really retired at all....
@@Thunderwolf4 Yea exactly!! I remember going to watch the Wind Rises with my dad and it was said to be the last movie. But then some news a couple years later that they are working on again. But this is way different title
@skie6282 on a press tour the other day, Studio Ghibli execs said Miyazaki is in his office working on his next project right now
Can't make a comeback if you're already one of the goats.
Literaly cried while watching it, its so Ghibli, everything scream Ghibli and M. Miyazaki.
Such an honot to have a mew movie by this incredible man.
The the team and man who just keeps on giving. You’re loved and praised around the world. What would we be without you
The animation is absolutely PHENOMENAL!
Welcome back, Studio Ghibli.
I watched this film three times this summer. It may not be my most favorite compared to Ghibli's previous works, but it is the one that leaves a lasting stirring in my heart that is the most difficult to verbalize among the previous works. Perhaps it was not only the power of the work, but also something I gained from the experience of having grown up watching Miyazaki movies and seeing this one in this time period.
Tell me your fav ones 🌸
@@yasira2131 My favorite Ghibli movie is "only yesterday" (the director is Takahata, not Miyazaki tho).
The main character Taeko who has never had a countryside hometown visits the countryside where her brother-in-law lives for a long vacation, and through living with the people there, she begins to reevaluate her past and present.
This was the only Ghibli movie (VHS) I had when I was kid.
Like Taeko, I did not have a countryside hometown (the region where my grandparents live), so the summer vacation in elementary school was too long even for me. So I watched this movie in my room until I was worn out, and in my imagination, Taeko and I spent a long summer together. Not only the fact that I didn't have a countryside hometown, but also the various scenes in this movie were superimposed on my own life. The feeling of happiness and nervousness when I ran into the girl I liked on my way home from school and talked to her for the first time; the feeling that the world was being unreasonable when my parents got angry at me for being upset over an unreasonable happened and I lingered; the feeling that what I really wanted to do had been faded away by the will of someone other than myself and yet I was still able to laugh at it in a brave way. And there are so many other things. It was not that I had no friends or that life was difficult, but it was because for me, as an impressionable child born and raised in Tokyo at that time, this film was like a precious friend that filled in the anxiety and loneliness that I felt at that time would never be filled.
What are your favorites? Just curious
@@yasira2131 Mine is SPirited Away! So goood!
already out?!
In Japan, the movie was released on July 14th without revealing any information about the movie, such as trailers or story, and it has become a hit with box office revenue approaching 8 billion yen ($5.4 million) within two months of its release. The title of this movie is ``How do we live?'' When I saw it in Japan, I found it to be a beautiful and thought-provoking movie that had difficult content, but it was related to all of Ghibli's works. highly recommended
Now that’s how you make a trailer! Not showing the spoilers/ plot! Definitely excited to see this!
Mahito running through the crowd was idk, mesmerizing. There was so much detail in every scene, the creases of the paper, the rocks at the cave/tunnel. Can't wait to see this, if it ever comes to cinemas near me.
Miyazaki and Hisaishi, an artistic match made in heaven by every stretch of the imagination, exemplified by this excellent trailer. Kudos to the editor, I've got goosebumps. Cannot WAIT.
YES! The King creates once again!
Sublime animation that whisks you away yet again into Miyazaki's dreamscape, and sound design that enchants the child in me ❤.
There's just enough peeks that the trailer offers to captivate me!
Animation is so lovely, cannot get enough of this
This movie was released in Japan without a Trailer or notice by Hayao Miyazaki and turned out to be the most grossing Ghibli Film in their first week. Amazing! ❤🎉
This will probably be my only chance to watch a Miyazaki movie in cinemas. Cant wait!
Congratsss for the Oscar win!!! Well deserved 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The animations are just next level. I never expected to see Ghibli studio improves themselves this much. The quality is reaching abstract levels of complexity.
Every time I see a Ghibli movie, I feel starry eyed 🤩. I love Miyazaki’s films, he’s not only one of my favorite animation directors, but he’s also one of my personal idols.
you should find a personal idol that is a better person tbh lol. Great movies tho, can't wait for this one
@@bobriquardo5317 Don't be jealous bro just cause he did far more in life than you will doesn't mean ya gotta be a hater smh
These are exactly the very movies that should be winning Oscar's for their amazing stories and infinite far better hand drawn animation. This is effort beyond anything else out there when it comes to animation.
Of course.
After almost a decade, and here it is, another masterpiece of the great Hayao miyazaki
This is going to be so incredible, I'm biting my nails with anticipation, oh my God. I'm just obsessed with his movies
Ok so I never understood how can a movie trailer give you goosebumps of excitement. Now I do
Brought to you be the man who can't decide whether to stay in retirement.
At this point, I'm convinced the only way Hayao Miyazaki is going to stop animating is when he physically can't anymore, whether he loses control of his hands or passes away.
All Ghibli's are Mixed with my Emotions...Watching Miyazaki Movies were wonderful happenings in my life....Welcome back sir...Long live...All of your Makings were a legendary...Just loving to watch those even now....Spirited Away,Princess Mono,Totoro, poppy hill, ponyo,Marnie,Only Yesterday,Cat returns, ETC....Wish you make many more...
Hayao Miyazaki, you are the best creator of stories in animated films of all time. Thank you Miyazaki.
It's amazing how the Ghibli artstyle never seems to be phased out of various eras of animation.
Because they don’t come out every year, not getting oversaturation, they are the only studio who can do what they do, unlike most of Hollywood movies
Well, Ghibli did make that horrible 3D movie called Earwig and the Witch... *Shudders*
@@Shaddiewolf Yeah after that happened Hayao obviously had to do something.
I sure hope that this will MUST WIN that Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film!! Hayao Miyazaki deserves it big time after 10 whole years!!
He already has it with spirited away. Also the oscars don’t mean shit anymore sorry to say it like that but have you actually seen any of the shows in the like last 5 years? It has just been controversy after controversy and they went in very weird directions with m the budget and showmanship, Jimmy Kimmel as the recurring Moderator to just say a few. Of course if you still enjoy it all power to you ahah, but I’d love to live in a world where it’s just the movie is good and it has word of mouth recognition and gets the money still to fund new interesting things.
Miyazaki doesnt give a fuck about awards shows
Not likely. Will probably be some CGI hollywood studio film with a crappy soundtrack starring the flavor of the month actors doing the voices lol

I’m so excited for this. My inner child is SCREAMING😍🥰
I look forward to one day, seeing a faithful adaptation of Hayao Miyazaki's life, musings and career, using a mixture of real world camera work, juxtaposed with the typically gorgeous Ghibli animated visuals. I can just imagine another masterpiece just waiting to be realised.
