Cool in depth review. I supply these locally in South Africa and what we've done is to remove the floating bearing and the MaXpeedingrods top hat and place the OEM one on that way you get proper adjustment. I would also advise swapping the springs for 10k ones as that's the rate used by the higher end brands (BC Racing, Yellowspeed Racing, etc.) with a proper preload adjustment. Set dampers to the midpoint starting from full hard and turn 12 clicks towards soft, and after a test drive adjust accordingly for either softer or harder drive comfort.
@boss06140 you can try just removing the floating bearing only and retain the MaXpeedingrods top hat and give feedback on whether that makes a difference. In theory it probably should since the floating bearing isn't necessary for application on the Prelude. Post your feedback afterwards if it works fine by just removing the bearing.
I just bought the BFO versions of these. They are still Max Speeding Rods lol just renamed. The front coilovers are high as all get out. I didn’t even bother putting on the rear because even for some cheap coilovers, that’s just ridiculous! I’ll see if I can get a shop to mess with the spring to lower them or something
Good review. I put these on my 4g prelude I think the spring rates matches the 4th gen weight distribution more than the 5th. I had tein basis on before the maxspeedingrods. And they ride very similar to teins maybe a bit firmer. I got the front to sit lower by using the OEM strut mount. So far the dampening feels good I'm 8 clicks from the hardest. I will adjust the pretention and dampening in the future to make it a bit firmer. My Megan's on my 5th gen are one of my favorite street coilovers.
A friend of mine had a set of these, and one gave out on him in a high-speed turn. Ended up going headlong into a tree. (He was okay, despite not wearing his seatbelt liken absolute dummy.) But, that was relatively early in the company's life, and these ones look far, far better built than his did.
How did you end up getting these to go lower on the front? I got this same set but cannot figure out how to close that 5” gap in the front. They also won’t return them.
I had a set on my Civic VTi MC2 Aerodeck. The ones I used were for an Integra as they do not make them for my car but they share the same chassi. I had mine for almost 15,000 miles (24,000 kilometres). At first they were great for the price. I paid £180 ($340AUD) so not bad for the price and how adjustable they were. Now, they degrade pretty quick. The adjusters seized to the shocks one winter in and the rears were not long enough for my application (keeping in mind they were for an Integra not a Civic MC2). Mine arrived dry but started to weep and leak very quickly. Second winter in and the rears could no longer be adjusted and the front adjusters were butchered to be removed. This was done when I upgraded to MeisterR coilovers meant for my car. Comparing them to a better coilover, I found that the MaxPeedingRods were very crashy and the dampening adjusters did very little in the way of adjusting. Full soft was almost no different to full stiff. The springs they use appear to be far superior in quality to that of the shocks them selves. After a WD40 clean they looked almost brand new so those I have kept. The shocks leak very badly from the shaft and one even leaked from the round "screw type bit" that holds the gas/oil in. This shock I pulled apart and mine showed signs of metal flaking and glitter. I do not know why as my knowledge in the field of shock assembly is very limited. You may have a better time with them with Australia being a lot warmer and drier than the UK. This was my 50 pence worth with these shocks. Have fun.
Yeah alot of that sounds related to snow conditions issues. The air here is super dry and you can have bare steel on your car for years before it starts to show surface rust. The main issue eveyone seems to have with them is leaking oil after awhile
@@TorbCraft They are working on an updated coil design which is black with blue springs. can lookup turbotristans video on them, however not sure if they are being sold yet
Hey Conor, how come your prelude has the 4 bolt 15" rims? I've got an European 5th prelude which comes with the 2.0 F20A4 SOHC engine, and it comes with those 4 bolt rims. Your prelude seems to have an h22 or h23 in it.
I removed the Mc foerson strut bearing plate. But to go any lower then that you need to wind the spring perch down. The coilovers are to long for the car
Can you please make a video on how to lower the front? I just did it on my prelude and I absolutely hate the ride height. But I don’t want to return them.
Great video as always man. Do you think these would bolt up to a 3rd gen prelude? There's not really anything cheap available for the 3g in the UK. It all looks the same sort of shape but is the bolt pattern on the top mount the same? I suppose the standard top hats could be swapped on if not. Spring rates seem close enough and comparing pictures of stock 5th/4th gen and 3rd gen stuff the total height of the struts looks pretty similar and probably ok with the adjustment from the coilovers. What suspension do you run on your drift 3g? cheers!
It's getting a new engine at the moment. I have some bits to finish on the s600 then I'm putting the new engine in the drift car. Guarantee it's an engine you have never seen in a car before. Stay tuned

is there a way to lower the front more ?
@@gianarmenta6111 you'll only be able to get it lower by removing the MaXpeedingrods top hat and floating bearing and use your factory/OEM top hats
Hey, doing this myself. Is there any difference between just removing the floating bearing and also swapping the top hats? Thanks
Because the maxspeedingrods top hats look pretty thin already

Thanks. Keen to pull the spare one appart and see what it's like inside.
MY DUDE! Super in depth vid, addresses a lot of questions for those coilovers. Keep SLAYIN man 🤘🏽
great review! i'd love to hear your 1 year update on how they've held up (or if they haven't i guess)
This is pretty much as good as you can get for a review vid on a car part. Thanks bro
the amount of knowledge you have on something as simple as a coilover is astounding, awesome vid mate
As a 2001 ebp manual prelude I gotta sub. Nice to see content related to my car anyhoo

Hi, where is the video on height adjustment? Nice video, by the way.
Do these coilovers give you front and rear camber adjustment?
Not on a double wish bone car.
What do i do with the 2 extra studs for the atts model ? can they come out ?

At 0:53 that looks exactly like a gas cylinder from an office chair, but I'm guessing most people don't need that much dampening for their rears.
Any update lowering the front and back?
