If that Harley Quinn had better opacity on the white printing, it'd genuinely be my favourite Harley minifigure so far. Everything else is so good... but that print quality just doesn't cut it.
Honestly almost all the main licensed lego themes (Especially Star wars) have had the most cursed and outrageous values on most of their sets for some time now.
"Maybe LEGO will figure out how to print white on saturated and bright red pieces when they make 10 billion dollars of revenue, instead of 9 billion." This is plain bad print quality, like with Commander Fox's chestplate, it looks like it's from one of the knock offs from China, but the knock offs can print opaque white on pieces that contrast white. Additionally, I saw compatible Pantasy's Astro Boy set in person, and "surprisingly", they can print white text on a black piece, for the set's plaque and aren't a 9 billion USD company.
The biggest issue I have with the Batmobile is that it's a one-seater. In the show, the car can hold two people, so often Batman and Robin will drive in it together, or Batman takes a criminal to jail in the second seat. With three figures, I would have hoped that you could display either Harley or Freeze in the Batmobile with Batman driving. The proportions are messed up because the Batmobile is built only to house one figure. The show presents the vehicle as being a bit wide and a low rider, but here it's too tall and slim.
"New"? It's been an issue for a while. Spider-Man minifigs from back in 2012 had issues with their white eyes printed on the red heads. It's a real shame that the printing opacity issue has lasted as long as it has.
The price here for me is rather disgusting. Batmobiles used to be priced around the $50-60nzd range in my country and slowly but surely, LEGO began to increase this by $10nzd or so every year. This thing is $100nzd, for something that does not need to be nearly be as extravagant as they have made it here. This set to me feels like it intentionally takes advantage of the fans growing up in the 90s watching this show because only they could possibly afford something like this today.
I am really not a fan of the new rubber cape piece, especially on this BTAS Batman figure. He's really missing some dark blue highlights like the one with the flexible dual-colored cape has from the Gotham Skyline set.
I like the car, but I am not going to pay $60 for this set. I could also do without the Mr. Freeze and Harley Quinn minifigs, as I'd just put this on the shelf next to my other Lego Batmobiles if I were to get this set. I also don't understand Lego's insistence on arming the Batmobile. the 1989 Batmobile having pop-up guns makes sense because it did in the movie. But I don't recall the B:TAS Batmobile ever having guns in the show.
lego's insistence is unfortunately play value. their market is kids, even for more expensive sets like this. they have to have some sort of conflict/play value with it.
I was curious about whether the pink effect seen here on Harley’s prints was present on one of the original figures from when the Batman theme launched all those many years ago. Surely enough, Lego had no issue with white prints on red torsos back then. I’m baffled now with LEGO making seemingly no attempts to get it right, considering the reproach from the fans with the Commander Fox figure. I mean, LEGO is clearly aware of this issue since the digital renders have the white prints solid.
Absolutely agree with pretty much everything here... If a child wants this set, or if a parent is buying this set for their child it's problably because "eh, lego batmobile, whatever" but at face value, this is more targeted towards people who know batman and collect stuff, if you watched BTAS you're either a nerd or an adult, and this kind of gets into the collector market, with that in mind, Lego needs to get better, collector-level price needs collector-level quality.
If I was a kid, This set is the type of set I would ask for my birthday or Christmas, just so I wouldn’t have to pay full price haha. Its a decent set, but NOT worth $60
My only complaint with this set is there are no accessories for Batman. I think this is the first Batman set without any batarangs, grappling hook, hand cuffs, etc.
Aside from the rubber capes being different, it’s too narrow and doesn’t give the silhouetted profile you’d expect from this Batman. Also the blue underside is pretty integral to this version of Batman.
The main thing I don’t like about the rubber capes is how relatively short they are. Most superhero capes or Jedi/ wizard robes reach almost to the ground. These rubber capes fall between the hip and the knee, which to me feels like the minifigure is wearing a kids costume.
blue tones on the minis would really make the batmobile color make way more sense. happy to get colors besides black and grey, its the right decision for a more fun playset, but add some blue to bats and freeze too.
I like the flowing cape, it's more dynamic and looks great in a running pose, but I'd still like to see an optional static cape and potentially other swap-out pieces if they want to commit to the fully molded capes
Kind of bummed they didn't include "The Animated Series" on the box for another line. Batmobile Battle or something simple would be better. Marketing Department fail. Batmobile looks pretty good. The mold marks on some pieces on the left side. QC fail. The band for the glasses stopping and starting looks pretty bad on Freeze. Harley is pretty rough with that QC. QC fail. $60?????????????? No. No. No.
That white printing makes me so sad. I could always notice "off-prints" as a kid, and I still have a silly fear that when you have a head like Harley's here that the print would just smear off immediately due to how poorly it's done.
The thing I don't like about the rubber cape is that it prevents lego from doing am accurate two colour cape. Iconically Batman from BTAS has a cape where the outside is black but the inside is blue. LEGO has done two colour cloth capes before so I'm not sure why rhey wouldn't do one for this...
For those of you would want to upgrade your Mr. Freeze, do what I'm doing and get legs from the DC CMF Sinestro and a blue air tanks piece (part ID 3838) off of Bricklink. This is to personal taste but I also swapped out the head, cowl, and cape on Batman for the older style short ear cowl and a dark blue fabric Batman cape (ideally I'd grab the one from the BTAS mosaic set but none are available on Bricklink yet)
I hadn't noticed the hip piece on Mr. Freeze not being blue. LEGO seems to have an issue with easy fixes between that and the recent Cyclops minifig not having a yellow hip piece. As nice as the car looks I'm still bummed out it's kind of the wrong color, even for dark blue. I'll definitely wait for a sale somewhere before picking this up despite wanting this set for years.
The plaque and rotating platform confuse me. Like they did it for the 1989 GWP, the 1960s Batmobile and now this. But they skipped them on the Tumbler, The Batman one and the 1989 standard one. I've wanted this for years so I'll probably get this but not until it goes on sale. I think I want it for £40 maybe £45 max. Still torn on whether I should buy this or Bricklink the parts in black and make it that way.
Basically all of the dark blue pieces exist in black, and any that don't can easily be replicated by other pieces, so it's an easy conversion to replace the parts and make it the canonical color.
Don't like the new cape. The cloth capes are wider and show the cape off way more from the front. This one also has the weird compromise of having the back flap up
September 2024 and this is now reduced to £44, inc 20% sales tax, at Smyths Toys in the UK. That's 20% off RRP of £55, 3 months after release here. Picked one up this afternoon and looking forward to building it!
built the set last week and I’m overall pretty pleased with it (especially since I only paid $14 for it using my Insiders points lol) my copy of Harley Quinn seems like it has a much stronger white print than yours does. Also in the US btw. But yeah, super odd. And I do agree! For the price, they should’ve given Freeze a blue pelvis piece and honestly purple dual molded boots for his legs too!
The Harley Quinn minifigure would've been a major highlight of this set had it been better quality, I think this set is pushing it way far out of what it's worth, almost looks like yet another experiment Lego's trying to see how far they can push prices when they're admittedly already very expensive.
My problem with the new capes is the same as my problem with the new iron man helmets and constant stormtrooper helmet redesigning. It messes with backwards compatibility. You could use a cape from 2001 on a figure in 2023 and it would be totally fine. But now there's this weird inconsistency of style between old and new.
Lego really needs once and for all to correct these bad prints on minifigs, especially when a darn knock off can do better, that's not normal, Lego! I do love that Batmobile though!
With that pricing for what should be a 40 or 45 dollar set they should have not only changed Mr. Freeze’s hips but also dual molded the legs to have purple boots and maybe even add a blue band above them.
Really crappy of LEGO to replace the soft two-holed capes with one-hole capes, and then a plastic cape? So you cant put that Batman in previous vehicles, back to the stone age where capes had to be removed so you can put the minifig in the vehicle...
They still make two holed capes. The cape with one hole is supposed to look different, it sits different lly on the fig. The rubber cape surely costs more to make. You don't have to like it, but it's not crappy of lego to make choices you don't like.
For those who are concerned about the dark blue, every piece is available in black. I went straight to a color swapped black version when building mine. I’m now building the dark blue for physical comparison.
I always appreciate your mentioning of the prices up here in Canada. I always feel like we might be getting ripped off and your reminder is helpful (our dollar hurts)
Great overview. Thanks Jang. We've had this on thr UK market for a little while but I'm waiting for it to go on sale before adding it to my Batmobile collection.
Do you contact customer services when you get really bad prints? And if so, what happens? Do they send new printed parts like they do if one is missing or deformed? The design of the car looks great and the color is growing on me, but I wish they would have mixed black and blue. As always, great review!
What infuriates me about this set is that just last year we got a Batmobile that was $48, which I felt was already overpriced, and now they've made another one that's $12 more expensive just for another minifig and a stand. For comparison, 3 years ago Lego released a standalone 1966 Batmobile. And for half the price of this set, you get the 60s Batman and Joker, the Batmobile, and a stand to go with it.
As someone who recently got back into lego, its disappointing to see how much more expensive everything is. I remember when i was a kid there were still expensive sets but at least they had a high piece count and quality builds.
luckily when i went to buy this i had a bit of a discount at the lego store on my lego account so i only had to pay 40$ which i was pretty happy with. Freeze and Harley are also my two favorite villains from the show so although their inclusion feels random im happy with it. and i would have much preferred the car in black but the blue is kind of a cool choice at least it stands out from all my other batmobiles. maybe ill buy all the pieces in black off brick link and build another one.
While I do LOVE the rubber capes, this just needs more stuff with it, feels like a lot of ‘stuff’ is wasted in making the lump of plastic that is everything in front of the windshield on the car😅
The cockpit seems disappointing to me imo. From what I remember in the show the windshield slides forward (similar to that old general grievous ship set). It also had more room. For a $60 set, I feel like they could’ve at least included that feature, even if they didn’t have the second seat.
I built this yesterday. I still don’t agree with the colour of the Batmobile but I will say that it looks better in person. The box makes it look way brighter than it is.
I was so tired of the same batmobile/batwing sets over and over, so this set is a fresh of breath air! I recently started watching TAS for the first time and it is making me even more excited to purchase this set
It looks....ok. (The price is WAY too high.) It turns out that J. J. Abrams (the guy who helped destory Star Trek and Star Wars) is involved with this Batman cartoon. We simply will not have anything to do with this product.
@@hammertronactionfigures2426 This is from the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon from the early 1990s, not sure why you think JJ Abrams has anything to do with it...
I loved the old Kenner toy and am very happy with the color, but I fully understand it's not for everyone. I agree with you on the price, and would have preferred any Animated Series character over Harley Quinn. But again I understand her inclusion here.
@leonhadley21 No, black looks better and is more show accurate. The animated Batmobile is literally described as being black on the show, and while the animators did use dark blue paint to help it stand out against the black backgrounds, the shade they used was much darker than the Dark Blue LEGO bricks.
The dark blue is my favorite lego color and the car does look good in it. It's just wrong it should be black. Blue was used as a highlight for the animation but the car was described as black on the show.
The quality of these prints is getting more and more ridiculous. What will it take for them to change? I've started contacting customer service every time I find these problems. Unfortunately replacements arrive with the same issue, but at least this should help them wake up
Batman was doomed to always look a little odd just because that animation style is SO different from how Lego looks. Quinn's prints don't bother me too much only because all of the white on her isn't opaque enough, so it's less jarring than if she had a white plastic piece that obviously contrasted with the print color. Wish this were perfect, maybe they'll have a second go at it when we inevitably get some legacy sets based on other DCAU stuff (batman beyond, please lego)
I LOVE the BTAS Batmobile. I grew up with it. For that price, specifically Canadian, I can get a bunch of diecast vehicles that will look from good to excellent. When compared to the Classic TV series vehicle, the Tumbler or last year’s 1989 Batmobile, the BTAS doesn’t stand a chance at all. At a discount, maybe I’ll pick it up.
I'm building the kit now, I had to quit for a couple days; the instructions is very hard to read and understand with everything being in dark blue, I've built many lego sets, but this "simple " one has been the most aggravating one.
I really dont like the new capes being rubber, not because theyre different tho, i just prefer cloth capes on figures in general even outside of lego stuff
I have the 1966 and 1992 Batmobiles and would like to add this one. But I’ll wait for a significant discount for sure. And it’s more to have a nice trio. The car itself doesn’t have too much going for it detail wise. But that’s not Lego’s fault, but the source material.
Shaping is excellent, but I have two problems with it (kind of the same problem twice): 1. It's blue. In the source material this should clearly be black. 2. It's blue. Dark blue is very hard and annoying to read in the instructions, and the set is almost entirely in that color.
How does this compare in size to the 89 Batmobile? They look like roughly the same size to me. That one was already overpriced at $48, I absolutely do not see $12 more here
I think to make Batman seem more like the BTAS Batman they should’ve used a regular cape, I feel like for me a defining feature of his appearance is the size of the cape, this new one just feels too thin to me
Since this and the LEGO truck from June are my only 2024 sets I want I am ok with the set at $60. Being a big Batman animated series fan this has been a set I have wanted for years so it’s a grab as soon as I can get.
This is right up my alley, i love the slick, simple, minimal design of this set, both the car and the minifigs. Tho minor complaint would be the price, imo 50$ would be more reasonable.
I think the price of this is a massive mistake. I am a huge fan of the animated series, and have wanted this for years. But £60?!? It’s just too much. It feels like it should be the same price as some of the previous play-scale batmobiles with a few minifigures. Or the tie bomber - £40. But nothing more. It’s so frustrating - I just can’t justify the price.
I personally think a lot of people have nothing wrong with something new, just so long as that new thing is just as good as the thing beforehand, and isn’t being used as an excuse for something lesser.
Instead of putting all that R&D money into new capes, they should have put it into getting that white minifig printing to be white.
My Overwatch Mercy still cries at how bad her face is =(
There's no R&D necessary, they literally just need to double stamp the white printing. GCC did it with their Commander Fox minifg
If that Harley Quinn had better opacity on the white printing, it'd genuinely be my favourite Harley minifigure so far. Everything else is so good... but that print quality just doesn't cut it.
or do both and more for 60 bucks?
it is crazy that they still mess up light tone print this much, they just need to do better
These blue sets are cursed value wise.
The X-Men black bird was horrendously overpriced
Lets not go THAT far, that X-Men set should be put to shame for its price
Honestly almost all the main licensed lego themes (Especially Star wars) have had the most cursed and outrageous values on most of their sets for some time now.
I can't wait for the day when it goes on sale.
This set is badly overpriced but the XMen jet is on another level.
I see $40 here. $50 if it used prints. For $60, Jang said it: you've gotta give me perfect quality
@@RogueBagel especially because the market for TAS is almost exclusively adults. This show came out 30 years ago.
Ah hell nah 😭That Harley Quinn white paintjob is giving me LEGO Overwatch Mercy flashbacks.
BTAS Harley about to join Mercy and Endgame Captain America in the "God-awful skin printing on colored heads" club 💀
Her and Koko from the Ninjago movie are the biggest offenders in my opinion, my God their prints were awful.
Oh yeah. I forgot all about that Mercy fig. Just awful.

The new Spiderman red on blue printing

I’m sure it’s frustrating for the designers to work hard on a design, knowing that the print quality may ruin the presentation.
(The price is WAY too high.)
It turns out that J.
$60?! Ain’t got time for that!!
Batman uses Shang-Chi, Happy Hoggan and Druig face
Lots to like about this set just 2 big issues.
The color should be black
The price should be $40
The colour is unique. It adds to it in my opinion. Yes in universe it is black but it appears to viewers as blue.
I loved the old Kenner toy and am very happy with the color, but I fully understand it's not for everyone. I agree with you on the price, and would have preferred any Animated Series character over Harley Quinn. But again I understand her inclusion here.
someone has already done a black version as a moc and it looks better in the blue, the black doesnt look right at all
@leonhadley21 No, black looks better and is more show accurate.
Unfortunately replacements arrive with the same issue, but at least this should help them wake up
She's printed properly white on all advertising, would genuinely contact customer support and ask for a solution
Great looking Batmobile and Batman (though the printing for the undies is overkill, especially with the dual-mold boots)
At a discount, maybe I’ll pick it up.
all those mold injection marks are disgusting
I prefer the good cloth capes to the one they gave Batman
Could have been a buy recommendation. Price & quality work against that.
Well, I am now inspired to wait for this to be on sale..
The problem with Lego Batmobile sets is the likelihood of a lost wheel
I'll wait for Walmart Clearence on this one. Closer to $30 would be ideal.
60e for this is INSANE
I'm building the kit now, I had to quit for a couple days; the instructions is very hard to read and understand with everything being in dark blue, I've built many lego sets, but this "simple " one has been the most aggravating one.
I really dont like the new capes being rubber, not because theyre different tho, i just prefer cloth capes on figures in general even outside of lego stuff
Too expensive, I will wait for a sale.
I have the 1966 and 1992 Batmobiles and would like to add this one. But I’ll wait for a significant discount for sure.
And it’s more to have a nice trio. The car itself doesn’t have too much going for it detail wise. But that’s not Lego’s fault, but the source material.
Shaping is excellent, but I have two problems with it (kind of the same problem twice):
1. It's blue. In the source material this should clearly be black.
2. It's blue. Dark blue is very hard and annoying to read in the instructions, and the set is almost entirely in that color.
We love the honesty of your channel. You know what it feels like to spend hard earned cash for sub par efforts.
Every video of Jang's is ASMR with an unmatched voice I can only describe as velvet gravel. 🤌
LEGO has a problem with printing white on top of red. Just look at the commander fox from the Star Wars gunship.
In Jang we trust always
This is right up my alley, i love the slick, simple, minimal design of this set, both the car and the minifigs. Tho minor complaint would be the price, imo 50$ would be more reasonable.
I think the price of this is a massive mistake. I am a huge fan of the animated series, and have wanted this for years. But £60?!? It’s just too much. It feels like it should be the same price as some of the previous play-scale batmobiles with a few minifigures. Or the tie bomber - £40. But nothing more. It’s so frustrating - I just can’t justify the price.
Plus that Harley printing is rough. I think it’s worse here than on commander fox.
Im Batman quite colourful great detail and minifigs awesome review jang 👍
I personally think a lot of people have nothing wrong with something new, just so long as that new thing is just as good as the thing beforehand, and isn’t being used as an excuse for something lesser.
Feels max $40, another atrocious Commander Fox…
I think the dark blue was definitely the right choice for this set
But, does it fit in the shadow box?
