I don't know if Marty ever reads this stuff, but if he does, man, you're the best. Your teaching style is casual and and easy to understand. I've learned more guitar from you than anywhere else. When I can afford it, I'll invest in some of your DVDs, but until then thanks for your UA-cam instruction, especially in blues guitar.
Hey Marty, whassup? You are the best teacher. I have been playing for over 30 years and I wish there was youtube back when I started. Would have saved me a lot of hassle. Keep up the good work
This is one of the better videos you have made in a long time. It reminds me why i subbed to you. As good as the old days when you first stole the show from next level guitar.
didnt learn much, because i already know about all this stuff, but i go around watching these kind of videos all the time, and i gotta say, the demonstration here was nice. that little song going at the end was, in my opinion, incredible
dude ..u knw wat no one else is gona waste thier time to do these things as u do,,,!!!! u wnt imagine these vids r so damn imp for beginners like me.. thanx a lot...man ... wishes frm India!
Thanks for posting this Marty. I've only been playing a little over a year and the last thing I was worrying about when I started was my tone. But now that I'm getting more into it, I want to know how to get all those different sounds. You should do videos like this more often and how to maybe obtain other people's sounds. Like, setting up tone to sound like Hyndrix, or Buckethead or Steve Vai for example. Thanks for this.
the litle thing you did at the end, that's what i want to be able to do... no be a super rockstar, or show off to my friends... i wanna be able to pick the guitar and play what goes on inside me.. and it was really awesome to see it was kinda hard for you to stop that thing from coming out!!
Hey Marty, have you ever gone over the fundamental differences between a coil pickup and a humbucker? Would love to know exactly how the two pickups can make the same thing sound different.
The thing he's doing with the TS is a trick. "Volume" and "Drive" are just names. If you crank your Volume and put your Drive on just a little bit, you get a different effect out of the pedal. With the Volume up, the Drive starts to control loudness. This is partly how Stevie Ray Vaughan got that awesome guitar tone (not to mention his fingers!).
Cool board Marty. Mine's not too terribly different (I think you've seen mine posted on your FB page). But I now have the Fat Boost and PlimSoul and they are both pretty damn awesome. I find it odd that you put your TS in front of your OCD. Any particular reason? I find it to be smoother the other way around. Cheers.
Hey Marty, whassup?! Great simple explanation of a pedal chain. Your tutorials are the best overall I've seen. As a guitar teacher myself, not only do I pass your vids on to my students but I very often learn something myself. A win/win! I like your fun based approach to guitar playing and, along with your guitar proficiency and knowledge, your explanations are great; logical and easy to understand. Just wanted to tell you that. Keep it up, bro'! You are a natural.
After spending a weeks worth of evenings experimenting with different clipping diodes in my DIY TS-808, I see now , that by clipping off the top end of every note, and then cranking your level (on the TS-808) -- you are, in essence compressing the signal immensely. Thus the infamous Bonamassa "horn like" tone
Hey Marty, Thanks for posting this. I actually requested a vid like this in the comments section of another video. Surely others have made similar requests, but its still kinda cool to see you doing a segment I really wanted. (bridges the 4th wall a lil) Anyway, could you do a video on some Tom Morello tricks. I saw your RATM video's, and although they are a good start for Rage fans, they really don't delve into how Morello achieved that iconic DJ-like sound he's known for. Thanks Marty
Great video, as a single coil strat owner, i would love to see you go through the pedals Like you did with your les Paul ,could you Do that marty please ??? Btw that keeley pedal is awsome for my strat !
iamthepodman, You will use something called a power supply. Lacking that, you will fix a power strip to the board and buy the ac cords for each pedal. You can get a voodoo labs power unit with six inputts ranging from 9/12/18 hertz. This will fit easilly on or under your board and also comes with cords so you don't have to buy them. It will run about 110 at guitar center.
hey Marty! just curious why you use a tube screamer over a blues driver. are there advantages to one over the other? you're videos are awesome... they've helped me so much!
Hey Marty, I'm starting to work on soloing, following all of your videos. I don't have any pedals yet. I was looking to start with a looper pedal so I can try to make my own jamtracks to practice with. Do I need a pedalboard or can I plug the looper directly into the amp?
try a compression pedal to give it some bite (I use MXR custom comp because it's the quietest comp I have yet heard) and a tube amp with a nice clean tone ( AC30, Dr. Z, Two Rock etc.)
Hey Marty, I may be getting a new guitar soon and was wondering which guitar you would prefer, a Gibson Les Paul (standard) or a fender Stratocaster or Telecaster. I have come to love playing clean with little to no distortion. Because I have not had a chance to try either and you have both, or close to both, which guitar would you recomend?
You don't use the mid-position on your LP? When I'm playing clean that's all I use really, add a little bit of phaser and a nice delay (like a carboncopy or mljr, with modulation) and I can go on for hours without switching to neck or bridge.
Can you give me some tips on making up your own solos? I find it kind of hard to make up my solos, but easier to bring chords into a song when i write a song. Any tips? Thanks ^^
Hi Marty... I have been checking out your videos x 2 yrs now thx.. GOt a question. what pedals would you recommend I check out if playing in a top 40 band? I'm using a tele and fender frontman amp. I would appreciate your advise. thx JP
@ALEX19066 Depends on what kind of guitar you are using. Some are harder to play than others, also depsnding on how much you practice. Akso, it's not about how hard it is, it's about having fun with your love for music! :D Have fun man!
Do you run your TS and your Fulltone on the clean channel ? I think so ? Because on my amp i don't have any FX loop and I Already have a TS i wanna buy a RAT for the extra gain and be able to have a delay pedal going on. That way the delay will be after the Distortion which will solve my problem of not having any fx loop. (My amp will be on the clean channel) What do you think ? Thanks please answer :)

This video itself was pretty awesome, but from about 10 minutes on I was completely captivated by the effect you had going. Very awesome.
it was helpful how you contextualized what effects are generally used in different styles, thanks marty.
Marty's awesome guitar playing itself is a good reason to watch his lessons!
I think i speak for everyone when i say i love all of these behind the scenes videos Marty... keep them up !!
Since taking up guitar some 2 years ago now I.ve learnt such a lot from this fella. Bless ya Marty mate!
Dude that last 50 seconds or so sounded sick.
Hey Marty, whassup? You are the best teacher. I have been playing for over 30 years and I wish there was youtube back when I started. Would have saved me a lot of hassle. Keep up the good work
I find joy in watching your videos! Thank You Mr Marty!
" when you do need it, you do need it". -Marty Shwartz
marty, you are a genius,I`ve been trying to understand the pedals effects for ages
This is one of the better videos you have made in a long time. It reminds me why i subbed to you. As good as the old days when you first stole the show from next level guitar.
My friend has the SKB PS 45 lots of routing options, multi-voltage power outputs, extra features like a headphone amp and cable tester, etc.
lol I felt like a was watching an indie documentary, "The Pedal Board Story: Marty Shwartz"
didnt learn much, because i already know about all this stuff, but i go around watching these kind of videos all the time, and i gotta say, the demonstration here was nice. that little song going at the end was, in my opinion, incredible
That is cool. I am going to go after your set up. It appears simple but very rich, funky, and versatile. I am impressed. Thanks for sharing
Marty, you are always my go to guy on the web for the truth about guitar stuff. Gear, songs ext. Thanks so much
marty you're the best! i loved your jam with the "sweep echo" one. that was so sweet. i wanted to come in with a big drum beat behind you
This video was very useful for me who has only been playing for a little more than 2 years. Thanks Marty, you rule
I've been waiting for this for far too long my man!!!
dude ..u knw wat no one else is gona waste thier time to do these things as u do,,,!!!!
u wnt imagine these vids r so damn imp for beginners like me..

Beautiful Guitar, that clean phaser would sound nice with that wah. Nice guitar playing.
Very cool Marty...I mite have to go get me some more pedals.
thanks Marty. I've played since the mid 60s and heard most of the effects but haven't used them myself much. Interesting to learn about this.
the litle thing you did at the end, that's what i want to be able to do...
no be a super rockstar, or show off to my friends...
i wanna be able to pick the guitar and play what goes on inside me..
and it was really awesome to see it was kinda hard for you to stop that thing from coming out!!
Do more of these videos please Marty
Marty, good Bonamassa tone!! I'd love to see some lessons of him if that's possible. Stop is a good one!! :)
The coolest t shirt I've seen in a while !!
nice to hear you play Marty!
Hey Marty, have you ever gone over the fundamental differences between a coil pickup and a humbucker? Would love to know exactly how the two pickups can make the same thing sound different.
good lesson thanks I wish you would go into more detail like how to run 2 amps at one time with FX speaker loads ect
The thing he's doing with the TS is a trick. "Volume" and "Drive" are just names. If you crank your Volume and put your Drive on just a little bit, you get a different effect out of the pedal. Marty, what ever that was you did from 11:00 - 11:35 it was bloody awsome. Teach me!
Cool board Marty. Mine's not too terribly different (I think you've seen mine posted on your FB page). But I now have the Fat Boost and PlimSoul and they are both pretty damn awesome.

If I had to take a guess I would say he prob got it at some hat store.

Sweet heritage guitar on the wall!
Cool rig.
Like the guitar also.

thanks for recommending the compressor. I'll probably buy one now. is the fat boost similar to the Keeley Katana?
Great video, as a single coil strat owner, i would love to see you go through the pedals
Like you did with your les Paul ,could you Do that marty please ???
Btw that keeley pedal is awsome for my strat !
Yeah, i was about to say the same as @burger24 , you could do a lesson on pedaling, that end song is amazing btw
at 08:10 what kind of effect is that? octave?

hey Marty! just curious why you use a tube screamer over a blues driver. are there advantages to one over the other? you're videos are awesome... they've helped me so much!

Cool sounds dude.

awesome vid marty but is the fender american standard strat good for rock or metal? thanks!
loving the kitt shirt!
what is song name at 10:50?
I agree with the "straight up" knob positions--keep it simple on the amp.
@TheAwesome9999 No not at all. You can use an overdrive by itself - but buy a good one, and make sure you have a great amp too....
Thank you for posting my request!
Nice tutorial and love the pedals! But the pedal board, do you need that or you can single out the pedals?
You can single them out
Oh thanks!
Do more of those videos
There is no more pure guitar sound, without space machines.
What is that effect at 10:57? Is like a delay with something else...
@5:34 And suddenly Joe B. jumps out of Marty's rig hehe. Great vid man!
please i just want to know aproximately the price of all the stuff you got ?
Can you give me some tips on making up your own solos? I find it kind of hard to make up my solos, but easier to bring chords into a song when i write a song. Any tips? Thanks ^^
Hi Marty... I have been checking out your videos x 2 yrs now thx.. GOt a question. what pedals would you recommend I check out if playing in a top 40 band? I'm using a tele and fender frontman amp. I would appreciate your advise. thx JP
Is the reverb all from the deville? Cause it seemed rolled off when the camera showed the settings....
@Brandovibe Yeah I know! I wish I had his shirt! I wonder where he got it from.
Good video, Thanks. Nice guitar too.
@poocoop thats the one i was looking at. do u use it? is it pretty decent?
@ALEX19066 Depends on what kind of guitar you are using. Some are harder to play than others, also depsnding on how much you practice. Akso, it's not about how hard it is, it's about having fun with your love for music! :D
Have fun man!
What gauge strings do you use on your Les Paul?
Damn! Look at how big that LP looks on him! Crazy, little-guy.
(My amp will be on the clean channel)
What do you think ? Thanks please answer :)
Can you answer just by a Yes or No. Do you run your tube screamer and your Full tone the clean channel of your amp. Thanks
You should check out the New "Firebird" by Gibson. it has all the pedals in the guitar.
"Hi, I'm Marty. And I'm going to play a hundred amazing guitar solos like nothing and continue on with my day like I'm not amazing."
9:15 love the way how marty's just cassually nodding his head to his guitar playing hahaaa
awesome shirt
that bass effect is so cool! can someone tell me if its available in any software such as amplitube?
That was friggin' sick!
