I love how they didn't make Charlotte a villain in this. They could've easily made this another movie where women are fighting each other for a man and I'm so happy they didn't go down that route.
The fact that Tiana and Lottie are such great friends despite the circumstances of the time makes me emotional. Lottie doesn't seem to have a lot of white socialite pals, probably because she's Tiana's friend. Even though Lottie and her dad would move heaven and earth for Tiana and her mom, Tiana probably didn't want them to give her any money unless she fairly earned it. She wouldn't be able to say that she worked hard and achieved her dreams by herself. That's probably why Lottie smothered Tiana in bills when she suggested serving the beignets at the party. The only opportunity Lottie could contribute any money to Tiana's dream is if Tiana earned it first. EDIT: Tiana and Lottie's families are so close that even the La Bouff family dog knows Tiana by name!! AAAAAAAAA
I'm sure that in the past Tiana mentioned to Lottie about how much she wanted to buy the old sugar mill and Lottie would have just asked if she wanted her and Big Daddy to buy it for her instead without batting an eye. and if Tiana would have broken down at the costume party and told Lottie about being out bid, Lottie wouldn't hesitate to help "how much do ya need? Done! And if that yankee tried to out bid ya again, jut let us know, cause there isn't a biddin' war a La Bouff cant win
I remember the hype surrounding this movie when it came out. It was such a huge deal for the first black princess. Apparently Beyoncé really wanted this role, but she didn’t want to audition for it. Personally I think the original voice actress did an amazing job playing Tiana
@@Chuuzus that is very true, Beyoncé can sing but he all know she doesn’t have the best acting abilities haha. If you wanna see the original voice actress of tiana in another movie I’d strongly recommend dream girls in fact her and Beyoncé are both in that movie :)

I was a girl scout in an all black troop when this film came out - me and a bunch of other troops with mainly WOC sold out an entire movie theatre and watched it for the first time together. Seeing a princess that looks like you when you're a tween does something to your self confidence, especially when the princess is not driven solely by love, but by her own goals and desires for success in her community. It was such a special day 🥲 this movie has a special place in my heart.
I love that they showcase both good voodoo/hoodoo works and bad voodoo/hoodoo works. Everyone thinks it’s just all evil and bad, my people practice voodoo and there’s bad connotations with the practice
Fr, I can't understand why people think it's so terrible (well, beyond racism :/), it's as good or bad as the person practicing it. It's like, idk, computers; some people use computers for good, some use it for bad. That doesn't make computers bad. They're a tool, capable of many things all over the morality spectrum. I'd love to study voodoo someday but I'd never focus long enough to really satiate my curiosity 😭
Ah, the voice of Tiana is Anika Nani Rose. She also was Lorell in Dream Girls alongside Beyonce as Deena Jones and Jennifer Hudson as Effie White. I would love for you to react to Steel Magnolias. The original from 1989 starring Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley McClaine and Julia Roberts. And the remake from 2012 starting Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, Adepero Oduye, Phyllicia Rashad Alfre Woodard and Condola Rashad. For both the original and remake, the plot centers on friendship between a newly blushing bride, Shelby, protective mother, M'Lynn, local town heroine, Clairee, grouchy old biddy, Ouiser, beloved beautician, Truvy and new beautician, Annelle. If you watch these movies, be sure to have some tissues.
One of the best animated princess and I love that they didn’t put two women against each other over a man the sisterhood is really close knitted in the movie and the fact that even with different class of living they are no indeference between C and T and I love the message of the movie shows that with hard work and perseverance you can achieve your dreams and the soundtrack slaps ✨✨
I still remember the day I saw the movie poster for this film. I was 9 and I fully halted in my steps and froze. I was staring at it for at least 3 minutes. My mum thought there was something wrong with me lol. I never knew I needed to see a princess that looked like me till that day, I told her we had to see it. I went in the end with my two brothers and we loved it. Still so good till this day.
Thank you for this reaction. This is one of my favorite animated movies mainly because they did my city justice. I am from and still live in New Orleans and the culture, music, and architecture is so on point. PS: Raymond is what we call Cajun. These people live in the Bayou (swamp) outside of the city and often mix English, French and Haitian language to make their own vocabulary and have an accent that's much stringer than us who live in the city. I have several family members with his accent and I still have no idea what they are saying half the time.
I feel like this movie has overtime gotten a bigger following compared to back when it was released, especially the excellent OST this movie had and it's pretty stellar cast and voice acting it had to be loads of fun seeing it for the first time
I saw that you were a bit confused about the hunters wanting to eat the frogs but that's actually common in the south for people to fry up the legs and eat them. I've heard that they taste good but I've never tried it.
I read that in The Princess and The Frog, Dr. Facilier (Shadow Man) is the son of Mama Odie. He mentions his family being royalty as well and Mama Odie being the voodoo queen makes sense. Also with him working with demons (his friends on the other side) shows that he was rebellious and estranged from Mama Odie. Apparently Mama Odie did the same ritual in the past and her husband was turned into a snake and he couldn’t be turned back to human in time, which is why she was kissing the snake.
This is a movie that I had playing NONSTOP when I was a child, I ended up scratching the dvd and I cried until my parents bought me another one! I love your reaction videos so much 🫶🏼🫶🏼 If you need animation or coming-of-age movie recs, I recommend the Monster High Movies (Friday Night Frights or Ghouls Rule) and The Karate Kid series 👌🏼👌🏼
Omg this a classic!! I remember going to see The Princess and the Frog in theaters with my older sister and her friends. It was an amazing experience as a little Black girl to see Tiana on the big screen! Instantly became my fave princess movie
So glad you got around to watching this culturally significant movie. I used to defend the hell out of PATF growing up lmao. If you want to watch a HIGHLY underrated 2D animated movie that not a lot of react channels have done, PLEASE look into WolfWalkers. This is my absolute favorite Disney movie and I'm so glad you enjoyed! I sing the songs on the regular ❤ I highly recommend Dreamgirls if you haven't seen it already with Anika Noni Rose (Tiana) as Lorrell with Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson! Soooo good.
This movie came out the year I graduated high school and me and my friend went to go see this in theaters . I love everything about it. However, I have seen people say they don't like the Prince character's attitude, but I like the Prince 🤷♀️🤷♀️ I actually think this is one of Disney's last movies where everything was hand-drawn or something like that. Don't ask me the specifics because I'm not gonna google it right now. Anyway, I do love the songs, the characters, the coloring and I will always cry when Ray dies.
This movie makes me cry everytime... it is so beautiful the music and animation is just beautifully done - 27:59 after seeing this scene as a kid it made me want my room like that with the glass bottles
That was the very first Disney Princess movie I actually went to see as an adult. I love it, that and the new live action Little Mermaid and The Lion King are my favorite Disney Movies.
I wish this movie had come out when I was a kid. It would have been my absolute FAVORITE.! I mean duh it is now as an adult. But I would have loved it as a kid especially as a jazz musician. ❤
Your reactions always make me happy, and this one was extra special! This movie tugs my heartstrings every time I watch it, but watching you giggle/laugh/cry/get excited at it makes it a hundred times better. Love you, Chu!
The party dress scene is one of my favorites in the movie. We see Lottie and Tia as kids, so we know their clothing preferences early on. Tiana likes green dresses that stay close to the body and Lottie likes pink dresses that are so poofy she'd survive a car crash without airbags. So when we get to the party, why on Earth would Lottie have a blue dress without an iota of poof? She's aware Tia won't accept a gift from her, so she uses the unfortunate incident as an excuse to give her a dress she probably had her dad purchase (likely from Tiana's mom) years ago 🥺 I love how we only get hints about all of this cause this is definitely the kind of thing Disney would spoonfeed to audience nowadays. Lottie's such a sweetheart, wanting Tiana to feel like the princess she sees her as, since Tia's lately just let Lottie be the princess.
A reason why Charlotte probably didn’t help Tiana before with money was because due to Tiana’s personality, she most likely wouldn’t accept. Lottie probably had tried giving her money in the past, Tiana probably said no. Tiana would rather work hard for her dream. Even her dad said wishing AND working hard is what makes a dream come true.
This movie has a special place in my heart. My mom is from Lafayette Louisiana and we visited New Orleans on vacation. I got to see the real swamp that inspired the swamp in the movie and it was beautiful.
C'mon with the J. Cole reference! Big fan, fellow North Carolina native like him lol. Also, gah, I really wish Anika Noni Rose didn't spend so much of her gorgeous voice acting as a frog, but here we are. I still cry a few times when I watch this movie.
