The original directors said they made the shorts for themselves kids saw them that's true but adults usually were the ones who bought the tickets to see them thus they could do adult type jokes but be sure that the Hays Code was OK with it along the way.

THIS is EXACTLY why Looney Tunes is so perfect. As a child, I enjoyed the sheer humor and chaos involved. As an educated adult, I find a whole new level of humor stemming from the cultural, literary and philosophical connotations. The original shorts are a perfect work of art that appeal to individuals of all ages - stimulating their minds regardless of their level of education and understanding of the jokes involved.

You know, people always talk about Pepe and what he did back then, but no one ever talks about the one time he got a taste of his own medicine. Pepe gets dunked in blue paint and Penelope gets dunked in a bucket of water. Catching a cold and being unable to smell him, as well as the paint showing off an impressive bod build, she starts chasing him, and only because her drenched look didn't make her look as attractive to him, now he found himself as the stalkee.
Just saying, that moment should be talked about more. Can't handle it when he's the one being stalked.

As far as Pepe Le Pew is concerned, people clearly misunderstood his character because it's not portrayed in rape culture. It's portrayed the way Chuck Jones characterized him. Pepé Le Pew storylines typically involve Pepé in pursuit of a female black cat, whom Pepé mistakes for a skunk ("la belle femme skunk fatale"). The cat, who was retroactively named Penelope Pussycat, often has a white stripe painted down her back, usually by accident (such as by squeezing under a fence with wet white paint). Penelope frantically races to get away from him because of his putrid odor (really because of that), his overly aggressive manner or both, while Pepé hops after her at a leisurely pace.

The irony of #1 is that Speedy Gonzalez was originally cancelled for being one such stereotype, only for the studios to bring him back after they found out he was actually *popular* with the people he was a stereotype of. I don't know the specific details beyond that, but the fact that Speedy's depiction was shown as "the hero" of the story instead of the villain probably had something to do with it.

On Cable Stations, it was on Nickelodeon and eventually Cartoon Network. So there were plenty of options.

I was only planning to watch while sick, but these brought back such great memories, that I'm still watching them lol.

A lot of those are just Jokes that go over kids heads. You could remove Loony Tunes from the factor and make a new list spanning comedy in general.
and there is a lot more then just those jokes you could easily make other lists
some of those things are things related to your own personal education there for they still go over adults heads and can possibly be known by children depending on how you learned. I would put them ore in an obscure fact list rather then a wink wink nudge nudge list
pepe le pew is some one whose actions are more inappropriate now then back then rather then focusing on how chases women and hates being chased by women, you could focus on how he plays up on a stereotype that All French people were aggressive lovers or you could point out how all the comedy comes from him smelling bad not from his actions being unwanted . Like the only reason that cat's not in to him is because he's stinky. Any time you take the smell away or paint over the stripe , she's very in to him.
and if you're going to fucus on inappropriate jokes not subtle adult jokes then there are a lot more to look at
also you used one Tiny Tunes episode and that's technically not the same thing.
and in some cases you don't even show the moment your discussing.
also people need to stop trying to protect children. If you have to edit gun violence from an Elmer Fud Cartoon so kids won't shoot each other your better off just not airing 30s and 40s content on your network.
people need to learn that the PAST was an era when every thing we are offended by was perfectly OK and very moral . It wasn't an era of mean spirited rude people it was a time when we could say and do those things because it was still acceptable behavior. If you don't like it don't watch it. don't censor it out of fear that your kids cant have a conversation with you latter.
If you hate Loony Tunes then might as well also ban your kids from Monty Python or Three Stodges or Marx Brothers or Bob Hope
farther more Cartoons were never "For kids" cartoons were, always have been and still are "for all ages"
heck they STILL slip adult humor in to cartoons. Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Powerpuff Girls, Johny Bravo its only in the last 20 or so years that we started getting so fussy over what's said in cartoons.
Even then Adult Humor is STILL in Gravity Falls, Amphibia, Owl House, Pixar, Dream Works, Illumination, the Cat in the Hat, etc

Pepe le Pew is a comedic take on French stereotypes. It's offensive sure, but it is still pretty damn funny. Also, it's not surprising about the racist past, it was at it peak popularity during the 40s, 50s and to a lesser extent the 1960s. If you have watched several movies from that time period, that kind of negative stereotyping was very common. The fun thing about offensive material is, if it offends you, turn it off. Very simple!!

I believe the show was made for everyone kids and adults because it is so funny and sometimes relatable or cute. If you are talking kids shows I believe it would be peppa pig and Barney. Because sometimes I can even sit through a classic Disney movie like Bambi. Bambi had cool animation etc. I can also still enjoy Lion king more than peppa pig. Not insulting anyone that likes peppa pig I just don’t see anything necessarily funny or relatable about it for any older audience I believe Peppa pig was geared to younger audience. Not Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Lion King, All Dogs Go To Heaven and Aristocats. I still enjoy these till this day. I think a lot of older movies were better than todays. I also like that their were characters that prayed to God more in older cartoons or movies or references that there is an afterlife.

you may not know that these cartoons ran in the movie houses between the feature films as movie shorts, and were written for adults, not kids. also, these were made before television was a household word, due to the fact that no one had a television set until well after "WW2". also these cartoons did not get re run on television until network systems were established, like when "TELSTAR" was put into orbit in the early 1960's, and microwave relay stations were built!!!!!. before network television, it was all local programming. to answer your question, yes we did watch the cartoons on saturday morning, and would get up extra early and watch the TEST PATTERN", just to make sure that we did not miss any of it. the adult aspect of the cartoons went over our heads when we were in single digits, but our parents sure got a big kick out of it.
