For the past few months, I've been of the mind that Denji's journey in Chainsaw Man is almost an exploration of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, looking at how a character like Denji, who hasn't had his base needs for health and safety taken care of, can function in society and learn who he's meant to be. The developments in the latest chapter, as uncomfortable as they are, are (I think) another aspect of that concept.
