    My favorite Medtner sonata of the bunch. Proves that when he wanted to be, Medtner could be as great a melodist as Rachmaninoff.

      @@milton3204 well, there are quite a few objective factors that are good for judging melodies or motivic paradigms. Even though elaborating these, like rhythmical symmetry and climaxial clarity among others, would go completely beyond the scope, I think that such a statement as the beginning one of this discussion is quite rational and - even more importantly - judgement should not be demonized under all circumstances (just as nothing should be).
