Your mark making is so beautiful. When I draw, it feels like I'm just making outlines of anatomy. Yours is free and energetic.
That's so very kind of you say, thank you! If you can get to life drawing, that will really help to free up your mark making. And of course, practicing gesture drawing :) ... I appreciate your comment though. The main the reason, or intention, behind this channel, is to support you drawing in a way that is about the energy and feeling. Figure drawing is not just about a rigid template or just about anatomy. It can be also about expression. Ultimately, balancing both approaches will result in a powerful drawing skillset, so I hope this helps you! :) ❤

What I love about your work is the variety! Different parts of the pencil are used, at different paces, with pauses and different pressures applied. All of that variety is bound to be dynamic. That is what I plan on trying to incorporate. Thanks again!
Hi Mike, ah you get it!! That's exactly what I try to explain, about mark making - experiment with different marks is a great way to get dynamic drawings, and brings a natural rhythm into your drawing. Thanks of rthis comment :)

Thank you for sharing your work and wisdom, and Happy New Year! When I was in a life drawing class early in 2022 I fell in love with it and felt I was making progress. I've struggled to put a drawing practice in place once the class ended. Hoping to find a way back into drawing in 2023...maybe just need to wait until my dog asleep and draw her? :)

Happy 2023. I’m looking forward to starting this class. I want to start figure drawing. As a graphic designer, photographer I have some drawings skills but nothing in human form. So I want to be able to quickly draw images like this by the end of 2023.
Happy 2023 to you to, good luck with all your art endeavors this year, sounds like exciting times ahead, hopefully you can get to some live figure drawing sessions - you'll find it's incredibly supportive to your other creative work, especially design. Also, just wanted to say, drawing short gesture poses are a wonderful way to be expressive, and as such it really won't take you a year to learn! more like a few minutes - once you "get it" 😅

Happy new year Siobhan. Your channel is one the places I go for peaceful inspiration. Keep up the good work. This year I took gesture drawing into abstract mark making exploring line quality as part of the abstract expression. I keep my drawing practice going as it feeds most other art projects.
that's wonderful! I'm always amazed at how a regular drawing practice - especially figure drawing - feeds into other art, even digital art. It unlocks that part of our brain I guess!! Hi Steve, that's great to hear! I didn't realize you had taken hat Udemy course! Wow, awesome :) Was it the background design course? I need to update it though, so don't worry about finishing yet haha! Wait till I've updated. So glad to hear you're getting back to your drawing, it does take time, and can be a slow process to fully get back into it. I’ve had an interesting year in terms of my drawing practice. I was very productive in the beginning, but went through a couple months experiencing doubt and artist’s block. I’ve recently overcome that, and now feel hopeful that I will stay more consistent in the new year. Thanks for the videos, I’ve found them very inspiring!
Oh yes artist block and doubt is tough!! I know exactly how that feels I can definitely relate, I'm so glad to hear that you overcame it and are back to drawing. Keep drawing! Keeping a regular sketchbook is definitely something i aim to do this year. Will be thinking of you and sending good drawing vibes! :)
