  • James Grimes is a lifelong football fan and recovering gambling addict. Born in 1990, he grew up in Norfolk supporting Peterborough United and got hooked on gambling aged 16. In 12 years of addiction he’d lost around £100,000 admitting that he couldn’t watch football without betting.
In December 2019 James was nearly two years clean and had moved to Manchester. That same year he founded the Big Step charity project, which walks and talks football clubs through the dangers of gambling to protect the next generation of fans.
James’ addiction caused him to lose two jobs, relationships, trust within his family and career prospects, as well as seeing him rack up 20 different pay-day loans. In the summer of 2019 he walked 125 miles between eight different football stadiums and raised nearly £4,000 as part of The Big Step.
If you’re struggling with gambling addiction or know somebody that is, you can get help from the NHS Northern Gambling Service by calling on 0300 3001490, email referral.ngs@nhs.net or visit www.northerngamblingservice.n....

I understand you and support you. But alas, as long as the world is ruled by financial bastards who have penetrated into all areas of our life (including sports), then it will be so.

This really great problem for all The World, which has been known since ancient times, which Dostoevsky described in an excellent way, and which in modern times has acquired huge and insane proportions due to key positions in the globalism of financial corporations, which are created only for the profit of individual tycoons (you yourself know which nation they are mainly representatives of). As long as these human-haters continue to directly and openly control sports and, accordingly, the minds of people, such a misfortune will continue.
P.S. Wrote i'm - a 20-year-old gambler from beggar Russia and went on to give my last pennies to this damned usurers...

You sound like a smart man. I know what you mean in some of the things you say. Gambling is a problem. I'm not sure it should be legal. In fact I strongly believe it should be illegal. I can't believe betting providers are allowed to operate. Be it slots, table games (such as roulette) or to gamble on sports. How is it possible to gamble responsibly? I consider myself to have some intellect and awareness in life. I find it impossible to gamble safely. Whether I 'win' (we never win in the long run) or lose. You can never have enough. Too many illusions have been created in life, and money influences most of them. I think 'I'll never get rich or have enough money working my job' so I turn to gambling. My best friend from high school passed away... so I turn to gambling. I split up and divorced my ex-wife... I turn to gambling. I think about going for a long holiday... I turn to gambling. My football team just played awful and got hammered.... I turn to gambling. It's absolutely everwhere.
