Just came back from London and Paris.. We took Eurostar and other trains, and we liked 4 seat facing each other for group of 4. Not sure Japanese trains has similar setup.
There are some stations with that kind of seating arrangement. Im not sure if is the same with shinkansen. But local train have those depending on the train route you are currently on.

They have that. The chairs are fitted so you can flip one side so all four can face adjacent to one another.
